@@JL-ti3us there are droughts in the southwestern parts of the country... but there in the northeast (where the Balobedu live) it's still pretty wet. KZN even had floods back in June

The kaiser of Germany would still be the hollenzoller prince georg friedrich von preußen. Nothing would change there. Also the current head of the house of habsburg thus title as holy roman emperor and austrian emperor is karl von habsburg. Not the habsburg bonaparte married. So the only thing that changes is king of france today if bonaparte has a child which he doesnt have now.

JordaniusVonRhod there really hasn’t ever been a Queen of France. Their has always been a Queen Consort of France. But that just means they are married to the current monarch. Once the king dies his wife’s title changes to the Queen Mother or Dowager Queen.

Hey I know it's a little late to make Halloween suggestions, but it would be really cool if you could make a chart of the various deities of the Cthulhu Mythos. Keep up the good work!

There are several different stories relating to the creation and history of the Rain Queens of Balobedu. One story states that an old chief in 16th century Monomotapa (South eastern Zimbabwe), was told by his ancestors that by impregnating his daughter, Dzugundini, she would gain rain-making skills. Another story involves a scandal in the same chief's house, in which the chief's son impregnated Dzugundini. Dzugundini was held responsible and was forced to flee the village. Dzugundini ended up in Molototsi Valley, which is in the present day Balobedu Kingdom. The village she established with her loyal followers was ruled by a Mugudo, a male leader, but the peace and harmony of the village was disrupted by rivalries between different families; therefore, to pacify the land, Mugudo impregnated his own daughter in order to restore the tribe's matrilineal tradition. She gave birth to the first Rain Queen, known as Modjadji, which means: "ruler of the day".

Perhaps you could make a video about the Sultans of Yogyakarta, a monarchy inside a republic (like the Rain Queens of South Africa) that is officially recognized by the Indonesian government. PS: This monarchy is currently facing a succession crisis as the current sultan only has daughters. He recently appointed his eldest daughters as his heir even though the monarchy traditionally follows a male-only succession. His younger brothers disagree with his decision.

the 50s movie SHE fascinated me & I watched it many many times. it was set in a mythical ASIAN kingdom similar to Tibet's 'Shangrala' I read about warrior queens from Nigeria that went to war & reigned during Middle Ages

That and a certain community's African Customary Law is recognised in South Africa if the people of said community accept it. Which mean these monarchs effectively have any power awarded to them by the communities they live in, so that gives them a lot of potential and cultural power. But being a part of these monarchist communities is also basically a choice, and the monarch may never decide something that goes against the constitution. They are therefore more cultural leaders than political leaders.

Vicky would've been that much more high-profile if ultimate primogeniture was observed, and Victoria preferred unions with German royals, as she was a Germanophile.

I am no expert, but it would seem to me that marrying a high rank but not heir nobleman would have been more likely in this case, to preserve the balance of power.

Unfortunately there's been a very disturbing change at the Modjadji Royal House, Prince Lekukela was installed last year over Princess Masalanabo who was to be the 7th Queen Modjadji when she turned 18. Prince Lekukela is the older brother to the overthrown Princess Masalanabo. There's a court battle raging on currently over the matter.

Of course people don't know about some tiny tribal dynasty somewhere in east Africa. On the other hand people do know about kindom of Benin because it was significant.

Ever considered making videos about the Mexica tlahtoanis (emperors, for lack of a better word) lineage? Also the different viceroys of New Spain and their links to European nobility? Note: There's a ton of other prehispanic civilizations in Mexico but probably for this type of video there's more and better information on the mexicas.

actually if the UK had a male only succession, the King would have actually been Ernest Augustus, Prince of Hanover as he is the senior agnatic descendant of King George I, who was the first monarch of the reset royal line after the Act of Settlement, Richard of Gloucester would not have been King because the entire House of Windsor based their claim to the throne via their descent from Queen Victoria, something that could not happen in a male only succession line

The minute you mentioned the Rain Queens I was wondering if Storm would come up.

Apparently the Modjadji Royal Council appointed Masalanabo's older brother, Prince Lekukela, as king of the Balobedu nation with the support of Prince Regent Mpapatla. This was something that happen last year and there is a lot of controversy surrounding it. Some Balodedu protested that they didn't had a rain queen and stuff is going to the South African Courts

The Moctezumas were granted a title after the Conquest, Dukes of Tultengo, and then moved to Spain, and have lived there for more than 400 years, In fact we were still giving them a state pension until 1933. Juan José Marcilla de Teruel-Moctezuma is the current Duke of Tultengo

Kind of, but not really. The Iroquois had Clan Mothers, but their role was spiritual rather than political. The Clan Mothers appointed tribal chiefs, who were the actual political rulers. Extra Credits has a great series on this.

The Iroquois were matrilocal, and female seniors had significant power inside the long house, but it was mostly domestic. The chiefs were men, and important decisions were made by males.

The Minangkabau society in Sumatera is matrilineal in its base. Inheritance and clan membership passes down from mother to daughter. But outwardly they have three kings system called Raja Tigo Selo, the Raja Alam, Raja Adat and Raja Ibadat.
