It's probably based on Richard Rodgers' "Under the Southern Cross", a theme from Victory at Sea, which is itself a spiritual precursor to Star Wars. kzread.info/dash/bejne/hnqrzLmjZKael6Q.html

Sheng Long Marion and Leia’s theme both begin with the same type of chord. Major sixth just means in a major scale the notes are 6 notes apart. As such the beginning of both themes have a similar sound at the beginning as although they are different notes and instruments they just the same interval in notes.
Aha! The first four notes of Theme A is on your profile pic!

Glockenspiel joining the main theme at measure 43 had me crying. Beautiful.
Whoever is doing this, you are my new hero...
I just LOVE how the trombones pull those triplets back SLIGHTLY in the B section....such a tasteful use of that effect!
I love these analyses and it teaches me about the art of not only theme writing but orchestration also, the only problem being that john william's scores are so exciting that when listening its hard not to let yourself get taken by the tide of energy his music provides!
i always get chills when i hear theme b its brings me so much happiness!
Ahh the magic of cinema and the theme that sets the tone of an entire trilogy.
an amazing composition and a thorough analysis, thanks so much!!

Thanks a lot for doing this, Wasn't even looking for it, but stoked to have found it!
Brilliant vid again. Nice work!
Excellent work as always. What a fabulous showcase for the London Symphony Orchestra brass section featuring my hero, the late and very great Principal Trumpet Maurice Murphy. Genius!

great work!! thanks a lot for doing this:) really appreciate it !
Brad, Great work as always! I'm an aspiring composer myself and the single most educational method for me is to transcribe and reduce scores. You seem to have that process down. It would be informative if you could walk us through your reduction process.

Thank you! A few others have asked for this as well now, so I think I'll definitely make a video in the future about how I go about doing this.
That was fantastic! Can't read music, but still loved it!
This is going to be such an help for an Indiana Jones fan film that I'm scoring in 2021! I do know the theme pretty well by ear and the overall structure and all that but all those little flourishes and minor changes and tweaks he does are essential too! =)
Pure gold! Could you please do Elfman's main title theme for Spider-Man? Some absolutely wonderful harmony in that cue, and thematic development.

That piece is a master class in how to modulate around a motif. Intentionally frustrating and compelling at the same time.

I've been chipping away at the main title theme from Spider-Man 2 for awhile now, so you can expect that in the near future! I don't have the score for the first Spider-Man, unfortunately, but there's hardly a difference between the two opening titles anyway, so it's basically the same thing.

Man, Spielbergs ear is pretty impressive.
I understood none of that, but listened to my beloved childhood ;-)
Thanks for this, I arranged a version, these score reductions are very useful, a Jerry Goldsmith "It's a long road" from Rambo or Dave Grusin theme from Goonies would be interesting too.
I recently found your channel and I love what you're doing. If you could do the Batman theme by Danny Elfman from the 1989 movie that would be so cool!
Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I really enjoy mm. 85, after the cello has established Marian's theme, the beautiful call and response between the cello solo, and the first and second violins.

I swear, if my soul could be distilled into 13 measures of orchestral music, it would be mm 85-97.
Brilliant !
At 5:06/m. 131, the printed analysis reads “Theme B (modulation to F major)”; okay, that is indeed F major, but the melody in that section is obviously Theme *A*.
These are all great! Any chance you'll post something from "Fiddler on the Roof" so we can see how Williams accompanies vocalists?
Perfect!!
Amazing!! I'd love to see the score for Amityville Horror (1979) :-)
Good job, as always, love your channel. Could you please do Grand Bazaar, Istanbul by Thomas Newman from Skyfall? Would be much appreciated.
Another great analysis thanks! I only have 1 problem im running into with your videos. The lack there of an instrument written to the left of every staff makes me not have a clue what instrument im listening for that is playing the melody where im looking. How are other people knowing what melodys are relating to what instruments? cheers
That resolution to the relative minor and then the IIb5 back to major at the end of Marions theme. Mhmmm you could eat that with a fork.

Do one for the Superman March another Williams masterpiece
Finally, the trombones get recognition!
Can you make an analisys about The Adventures of Young Indiana Jones music?

Can I get hard copies?

There's actually a pdf score of much of the Lion King music floating around the internet somewhere. You might have to search a while to find it, I did, but if you really want to see the music it's worth it. I'm sure you know there are at least a couple of Hans Zimmer's works FilmScoreAnalysis has done: Batman Begins and Pirates, up is down, search for them if you're interested and haven't seen them yet. Whoops, it appears that the "Temple Fight" music from Batman Begins isn't by Hans Zimmer but rather James Newton Howard, but to me that's a positive as you get to see the work of another great film composer. Oh, but I agree, something from the Lion King would be great. I remember the music for the stampede part which I believe includes a cow bell as being fantastic. And the Circle of Life is amazing too, the chorus really makes a huge difference, seeing(and hearing) their parts adds a whole 'nother dimension to the piece beyond what you normally see with a piano transcription/reduction, the chorus provides the driving rhythm with their repeated ostinato. I loved Zimmer's score for The Prince of Egypt as well. Oh, and Crimson Tide too.

Do you have the Lion King score? I haven't been able to get ahold of it yet, but I'd love to take a look at it, and I'd definitely make some videos out of it. I've got some more Zimmer stuff coming, including cues from the Dark Knight trilogy, Sherlock, and Pirates.

I'm sorry, but I don't, otherwise I'd happily send it as I would love to see the videos you'd make, but unfortunately I got a new computer and wasn't able to transfer the pdf file. I should also mention that what I found was actually kind of a bootleg score one might say, it seemed like a sketch or something, written by hand but generally clear and legible. If I remember right, it was a "full score" written for individual parts on multiple staves with instrumental indications, but I think it was kind of condensed, like an outline or something. Still, for me there was a lot to be gleaned from it, much more than a simple transcription for solo piano performance you find in most books.

+FilmScoreAnalysis Well, what do you know, I found it, and I didn't have to spend two hours like I did last time. It's on Scribd. www.scribd.com/doc/98273399/The-Lion-King-Conductor-s-Score Like I said, it's not quite the full score(now I see it's a vocal conductor's score with piano reduction), and it might actually be for the Broadway musical, maybe, I'm not sure, but it still gives a decent idea of what's happening in the music. Unfortunately the "devil's in the details" however, and I can see from your videos that there are many subtle things written in full orchestral scores(unfortunately missing here) which one may have a difficult time hearing and transcribing unless they are specifically listening for it. Maybe you can work some magic, you seem eminently capable, but regardless, whatever you do, if anything at all, will be much appreciated. And thank you for your hard work with all your videos, they are fantastic and I enjoy them a lot. : )

No worries, thank you for looking for it! Unfortunately, that link appears to be the Broadway version conductor's score. However, like you said, there's still plenty to be gleaned from that, although the devil is certainly in the details with this stuff. I'll keep an eye out for anything else in the meantime. I could see there being a handwritten sketch score, like you described, but I'd actually be really surprised to find a full orchestral score, seeing as most of Hans's score for that film was (I think) just mocked up with old 90s orchestral samples, rather than recorded with a live orchestra.
Is it a typo on the score sheet? It should say "Answe to theme A" ?
should be "sol" in the bass at the end of bars 8 and 16, right?

The problem with doing a Battle of Yavin video is - I only have the first half of that score, so it wouldn't be complete. If I get the full score sometime, I'd love to make a video for it.
