I had four Ragdolls. I brushed and combed them every day. You do not have to give them a bath. I only washed their fluffy little butt once in a while if they had a litter box accident. But brushing is good for bonding and cuddling. Do NOT let them outside. They dont know about defense. Give them your attention and your heart. Every one of my four lived to be at least 18 years old. I miss them desperately.

I have a big private garden with my house, my Ragdoll is completely safe in the garden, we have beautiful trees where a lot of birds gather berries and food from, he loves watching the birds and the smell of grass. So going outside is good for a cat if you have the right house for it

I had 2 balinese and maximum I used to bath every 6 months. But for a cat this bath is too long. It should be 2 minutes and quick dry. I have a kitten ragdoll and if I need to bath her because the paws are full of shit I do very quickly. Their hair dries by itself or with a few towels. Poor baby all this hassle every month. Cats are very vulnerable with wet hair as the weigh them down and make them useless. Stop torturing him with that noisy hairdrier.

it's a ragdoll, they are much more cooperative than your average cat. I've had mine for a year and a half now, and she never scratched or bit me on purpose. She does signal when she's had enough and "simulates" biting or she taps me with her paw, it's more of a tap than a slap. Ragdolls are super friendly and likable cats.

My ragdoll is also very cooperative. It's part of their sweet nature. And they like to be near their "human" So don't make any fast turns without seeing where your cat is first.

I learned with my first long haired cat (a rescue) to give his fur a trim around his butt and back legs. Not only did it stop "cling on" poop when he finished in the litter box, but it helped him groom the area better.

I have a ragdoll cross and if I tried this with him he would have murdered me five seconds in. The only part of this he would tolerate is the brushing....he LOVES that.

Now the cat looks like a cloud.

Sweetest cat ever. Just watch where you step because they tend to follow you around. You won't regret it. They are sweet, clean, quiet and loving. Just feed them good, appropriate food, keep them brushed...they all have long hair, and love on them. They will love you back ten-fold.

That is the most cooperative cat I have ever seen.

I love the screen cap, it looks like she's resisting arrest.

My cat runs a mile away when she hears the voice of hair dryer 🙆 But still she is the best thing that ever happened to me 😊

I've a ragdoll too and he was pretty poopy so I asked my professor in nutrition (I'm studying vet) what to do and he suggested me to alternate the brands and the "flavors" of food. The problem is in their intestinal flora which (in my cat case) was used to one and only type of food and rejected any other variety. So now I'm alternating 3 different flavors (salmon, chicken and pomegranate and chicken+liver) one a day. At the beginning I was a skeptic, I feared he could poop all around because of new food but I'm glad to say he is fine now and he doesn't poop anymore (he poops but not liquid). I hope this was clear and maybe this can help you too. 🐱

We let Juniper try a lot of different brand and it was difficult for us. When her poop got worse, we had no idea which cat food or even treats weren't good - once it get worse, bad poop for a few days... so we eventually had to test each food separately. Some food cause acne too, it took so long to find the best food for her. Now we are feeding with probiotics and no poop issue. About food, we just stick on Whole Earth Farms and never got acne. I hope either experience helps other ragdoll, thank you for sharing your experience :)

Dont change foods too rapidly. Just give a little of a new food along with the old food for about a week, increasing the new food a little bit and decreasing the old food every day. That should avoid runny poops when you change food. Also some prefer dry food, some prefer wet. But dont give them cheap food or anything from China or the Pacific area. They are not controlled. And remember cats eat meat. They are not vegetarians... But keeping a planter of fresh grass growing for kitty to nibble on is a good idea... Might help with the poops too and also eliminates hairballs the healthy way.

@@juniperragdoll8294 Acne is often caused by using plastic dishes and bowls. Also you can wash her chin occasionally with warm water wash cloth and a tiny bit of soap which you rinse well. Also brush chin with a soft baby brush every day.

Oh wow! What a well behaved little one! We have a two year old Ragdoll named Coffee @CoffeetheRagdollCat Let's just say he's not into baths or showers or hair-dryers...

Most rag dolls love water I was surprised, every time I'm in the shower mine gets in if I allow him or he just sits at the shower and trys to get liking water is usually one of there traits.

Omgosh!!! Lol... My Cats would have Killed me By Now! And they’re All part Ragdoll. I have a Full blooded Mama Ragdoll.

I agree with Lianne. Holding a larger cat by the scruff is painful. It's only for mama cat to gather her babies, not stupid human to carry a cat. 🤪😡

What I've done to help get my cats to swallow their pills is to put it in their mouth then use a small syringe to squirt water in their mouth between their teeth. They have to swallow eventually.

@Heather Elliott depends, if you let them free roam outside you wiññ have to shower them, not showering is kinda for indoor cats, for 1 letting them roam by themselves is dumb, but if you do it at least shower it from time to time, they aquire dangerous bacteria for them and for others cuz they love to eat dead snimañs and not thst they kiñled it but it was alreasy dead and they est it despitr putrefaction, so if your cat goes outside and you never bath them thats big dum dum, and you can make them stop fearing water if you had then since they were little, if its an adult it is hard to do but not impossible

My (ragdoll) boy just watched this, looked up at me and said "when hell freezes over". Last week he got into the fireplace and came out with a black nose and 4 black paws (he's white). Contrary to what they claim, this ragdoll does NOT like water one bit and I have a forearm of scratches to prove it!

My beautiful Ragdoll is 10 and has never had a bath. She is absolutely terrified of water & I know a blow-dryer would traumatize her. Brushing is all that's needed for the very occasional bit of matting. She's naturally clean and gorgeous. Just sayin.'

@@Tigre01 it is natural for a cat to clean with their saliva which is more antiseptic then human saliva. I never shower my cats and they don't smell they are indoor cats. They have a wonderful coats which is due to their good diet and brushing

Typically, yes, but very long haired breeds like the Ragdoll can use a bit of extra help sometimes. It also helps with removing excess hair that can be harder to brush away, and thus preventing tangles :) The long hair also makes any accidents in the litter box a little harder to clean, and might require a bath.

Indeed. Completely unnecessary. Cats groom themselves. A good brush regularly is all that's required. Cats DO NOT SMELL.

RE Juniper... Hey this adorable baby in the bath has the "lynx" mask! My last kitten was also a lynx. You have a blue bicolor lynx. See how she has white around the edge of her ears and the striped forehead! And the white inverted "V" in the middle of her forehead. That makes her a bicolor. She's lovely. They cost over $1500 these days or I would definitely have another one.

Don’t know how you do that but it’s so cool my ragdoll hates the bath or shower I’ll try it once and his not having. So I have to take him to groomers.

Most cats don’t like running water, especially over them. So I recommend not using running water on the moment there in the sink or bathtub. Running waters (can) makes your cat feel uncomfortable. And if you let them get used to it on a good way, they probably will be a lot calmer and than you don’t need to hold them by their scruff and probably won’t (try to) run away. And as you can read in the other comments, don’t use the blow hair dryer on your cat, it’s not good for their ears.

@@08071991S I've only had one messy poop on fur issue with my new long hair kitten so far. Got the brand breeder was feeding, but still got upset stomach for a few days. One time in litter box he forgot to move his tail and pooped on it. Moved that poopy tail into his side. I'd given him a flea bath the day before and didn't want to stress him with another. So I just used baby wipes and a spare flea comb. (Comb was needed since it does indeed get stuck in the fur) Heck, I barely touched his tail, mostly just did his side. He cleaned his tail very well all by himself. Cats don't need baths unless necessary. Like flea infestation or they get something toxic on them. Or in older/obese cats. They will quite happily lick clumps of shit off themselves until there isn't a trace and they smell fine. If your cat gets dirty and smells a bit (come in from outside or used the litterbox), wait until it's groomed itself. If there's still an issue I'd be thinking something was wrong with it's health.

@@melonkitty7908 Nothing!! First off, cats don't need bathing!! Only, very, very little if they've gotten into something bad. Cats don't like bathing!! If they are all wet, just toweling them off real well, will work. The sound of the loud dryer is really bad for their hearing and you may also burn them with a blow dryer. After being towel dried, they will spend the next hour or so, cleaning/grooming themselves.

As soon as mine hears the water she runs. I usually put warm water and then take her but I only wash her bottom when it's dirty and at least once a week to see if she gets used to it

methat lovescats I don’t normally bathe my outdoor cats either because they clean themselves. But every cat needs a bath once in awhile. One time, when one of my cats was a kitten, they rolled around in dog shit so we gave them a bath. Indoor cats might not roll in poop in particular, but messes still happen. I don’t see why this cat needed a bath, but there could be a good reason.

Of course dont need to wash them often but especially if ur going to kiss them and dig your nose in their fur and stuff you don't want to be sniffing bacteria. I admit I sniff my plush toys that I carry around in my house and I get blackheads all the time, it's the same thing with cats

@Heather Elliott you can make them get use to it cuz they descend from predators that are good swimmers, the rumors that water can kill your cat are false, sure, dont bath them every day or every week, but if your cat goew outside, why take risks by never shower it? Theres always a 1 in a 100 chance you get infected with a bacteria cuz cats explore a lot, they cpyld be in dirty roofs or nasty junkyards, never assume a cat never needs a bath.

I wash my three raggies every month too, none of them let me use hair dryer, they just run away
