Well, if the other family didn't know how to live with a cat, and perhaps demanded/expected the cat to immediately acquiesce to their attentions when and how they wanted, I can see where the human/cat connection just didn't happen.

Sometimes I feel like people who are used to dogs expect a cat to be a dog, and when they are not a dog they give them back, because the cat has "behavioral" issues.

They wanted her to be a lap cat. She's not a lap cat. Maybe one day...on her terms. Their neighbor had a cuddly ragdolls so they were disappointed and the young teen girls were fighting over the cat. Glad it didn't work out for them.

We bought a cat from a rag doll cattery nearly 40 years ago. To show us how chill he was, the owner held him upside down, swung him around and tossed him to my husband. He didn’t seem to mind at all. We take him home to be with our other, half Siamese kitty girl, and within a month, he turned into a major jerk. He would regularly kick the stuffing out of our first kitty and then started peeing everywhere. His new home became my parents screened porch.

Sorry for the loss of your other kitty. May you have many happy years with Aria.

@@embodyworks Unfortunately, it is tough every single time. They are our family. Sucks that cats have such a short life. My cats typically live about 15 to 19 years. Any day past 1 and I am instantly hooked.

My 14 yo boy is the same. Loves company, but never on the lap. Much more vocal in his later years, often at unsociable hours. Ragdoll temperament is, however, amazing.

Thank you Winifred for taking the time to comment. She has settled in so well. At first, she didn't like belly rubs but had very clear cues to give her space. She still isn't the most cuddly cat, but she is a beauty and brings a lot of calming energy.

I noticed how well she matches the color scheme also. So cute. My cat doesn't go with my decor colors at all. That's ok by me, but she's always on me about going all black and white (with maybe some splashes of red). I'm not showing her Aria's video. ❤

I've always wanted a Ragdoll. They are so beautiful and seem so laid back and sweet. None of my cats have EVER been that calm durring a car ride lol.

IKR? We adopted our twinsies: one is an OSH mix torbie & the other one is a Bengal mix (mama is purebred but don’t know the papa. Mama had significant cleft pallet & was pregnant when rescued) Our kittens sang for almost 4 hours on the way home. I couldn’t even hold a conversation because they were too loud, lol.

Keep in mind Oriental Shorthairs & Bengals are very talkative & loud! Our Bengal mix is extremely intelligent, but mischievous & demanding. I wouldn’t recommend a Bengal for a 1st time cat companion: they constantly need intellectual & physical challenges. Raspy is part cat, part puppy, part monkey & bird. If someone wanted a breed that’s puppy-like, I would recommend Ocicat breed. They are the King Charles Cavalier Spaniel of felines. Mine were extremely snuggly & would follow me everywhere. One of my Ocicats was leash trained & loved going on car rides. Whenever we visited a store he would go up to people & ask for snacks & tummy rubs. I

I know. Destroyed. I made it myself with a doily crocheted by my great grandma and feathers found on hikes. It is now missing most feathers. At least the rest is in-tact. It took only one time knocking it down from the shelf.

Rag dolls are the sweetest. You’ll never go to the bathroom alone again. They follow you everywhere. Mine loves to play fetch with hair ties.

I have two males and they will be 16yrs. old this Sept and October - one is a flame point and the other is a seal point - at this age they are slowing down, but the minute I pull out their feather toy and swing it up and down and around they still love to play, not as robust as they once were. Enjoy Aria, she will bring you joy for many years!

In the beginning, I had a gate around the plants. I had checked to make sure none of the plants are on the toxic list and gave the large ponytail palm to my sister so Aria wouldn't even be tempted to bat at the palms. She's curious when I water the plants (like she needs to help me), but otherwise doesn't mess with them. Thanks for the words of caution- it's important for other people to know, too.

Very pretty kitty. She has lots of nicer things in life for her to enjoy.

I would love to get my cat, Fury, DNA tested. I swear he has ragdoll in him. His behavior is a lot like Aria's. He's the only cat I have that will willingly go into a carrier and he'll beg to be picked up like a human toddler. I also really appreciate that you took in a cat that needed a home versus buying a purebred from a breeder and supporting that trade. I rescue and care for a colony of Community Cats (what some would call "ferals".) Fury came from that colony. He was full of worms and had no fur on his tail. Now he's a gorgeous spoiled kitty and my baby.

Ago he was NOT a cat lover, it didn't take him long to see the error of his ways..love your baby have a long happy life together

@@embodyworks There is a very popular KZread animal channel (that I will not name) that plays music so loud that it covers up the animal and other nature sounds. It diminishes the enjoyment of the video. And it's not really music; it's noise.

She seems to approve the new mansion and has already a spoiled attitude 🍀

The cat is beautiful she probably went through some tough experiences but animals who find the perfect home sometimes do when someone dosen't want them there's always someone who does and they always get treated better. This is a beautiful home I'm happy for her she's in a purrr fect place.

Thank you. I almost feel bad for the family that had her first because she is a wonderful cat. Sounds like their neighbors had a cuddly ragdoll and Aria isn't super cuddly. They returned the cat with the litterbox, food, blanket. Maybe a cat didn't fit into their lifestyle.

@@embodyworks that’s so mean. I always get mad when I hear these kinds of stories. A cat is part of the family. Are they going to want to return a child because it’s not doing what they want it to or not what they expected? While, thankfully, yours is a happy ending, many others aren’t & they’re just left at cat shelters alone & confused. It can be very traumatic for them. I’m so glad Aria found you. But seriously, these ppl that return animals because they’re not doing what they expected should not own pets at all.

They really are the best!

The exact same thing happened to us. We rescued a sweet little boy named Cabo and immediately fell in love with his adorably quirky personality! Within a couple of months, his belly was getting distended and he stopped jumping when we played with him. He was diagnosed with FIP and had to be put to sleep. We were devastated, especially my daughter. Upon hearing the news, she passed out cold in the vet's office and hit her head on a chair. She had to be taken to the hospital by ambulance. The vet would get visibly nervous whenever she accompanied us after that.

That's exactly what happened with Ananda. She stopped jumping up and down from furniture and then her belly distended. Our vet was angry about her having FIP- said that the shelter would have known they were adopting out a sick kitty. We're glad we got to have that short amount of time with her and she was equally spoiled for those quick 2 months. If she hadn't have come into our lives, we most likely wouldn't have Aria and River now.

@@embodyworks I'm so sorry. I know how difficult that experience was for us. Just as with you, we sanitized our entire home and a few months later adopted two of the most wonderful pumpkins! Unfortunately, FIP is transmitted maternally and may not be obvious until months or years later. In our case, the mother cat was unknown. We feel blessed to have had the opportunity to know and love Cabo for the few months we had him.

I can't imagine why someone would return such a beautiful cat. I adopted a feral mother and her kitten son 5 years ago and I've often wondered about his heritage. I can tell by his appearance (vs his mother), that his father must have been either Siamese or Ragdoll. Aria has clearly found the perfect home for her.

We have had a number of cats of the years but now we have three Ragdolls. These cats are quite unique in their temperament and personality. Even though each is an individual,the breed has some amazing common traits. They are devoted to the humans they bond with. The weird thing is their humans are devoted to them as well. I would wish everyone the chance to have a Ragdoll as a companion.

I think that's so fun to watch cats arrive to new homes and how they carefully walk around. Aria still has a bit of that tippy-toe step...as though she is royalty- ha!

@@embodyworks I totally get that. My current kitty is like that. He'll snuggle up beside me in bed for a few minutes but them move to the foot area to sleep. Loves strokes & belly rubs but not being picked up or held. Not one cat is like another. And that's as it should be. Saw your River vids, too. He's a beauty, too!

Cats do things on their own terms. Sounds like the previous owners didn't get this. Beautiful sweetheart!

She's not the cuddly type and I think they were trying to over-handle her and make her into a lap cat. She has very clear cues to give her space.

So cute seeing a cat explore every single corner of the house. If it was a human doing it, I would be concerned and go straight to the cops. Lol

What a beautiful girl! I had a Ragdoll male who was a seal point colour, with big blue eyes, and he was so gorgeous, just like your baby. She is so good in the car, and so curious, and didn't seem afraid at all. You've got so many soft, cozy places to nap, I'm sure she's in heaven. She is just beautiful, and makes me miss my Max.

Yes, she is quiet! If she is meowing, she either needs to show me something (like a little vomit) or she is bringing me a toy mouse from upstairs. Both occasions are few and far between.

Exactly- they just didn't tune into her cues that she doesn't want to be a lap cat. You can force a cat or person to be something they are not!

Aria is beautiful! May she bring you many happy years. I lost my first cat when he was around 3 years old to FIP. It was devastating, so I understand. The blessing was that it allowed me to get my second cat - whom I enjoyed the company of for 19 1/2 years! They become such a part of our lives. Losing that beloved cat was SO hard... we added two cats together after he departed. They don't replace: they add new memories with new friends!

I know that must have been so hard for you but God-bless you for taking in an older cat. I did cat rescue for about 10 years and whenever I had a cat that was over the age of 5 I knew I would be fostering it for for 6 months or more. The kittens winch in a weekend but the older cats took a lot of time period so I'm. So thank you for giving her a good life for as long as she had.

That is wonderful to recuse an older cat. I wasn't expecting how much I got attached after just 2 months, so 2 years is a big gap in your heart.

@@embodyworks sure was. 😭all because her prior owner's vet gave her vaccinations in her flank area where all their vital organs are instead of injecting the leg which could be amputated if they get cancer. So my baby won the worst lottery of them all. 1 in 10,000 Cats they say will contract Vaccine-related Sarcoma. Happened just around the Pandemic when they would have been able to try surgery to remove all they could. Sadly I think they wouldn't get it all anyway and her fate was sealed Best darn Cat I ever knew. I grieve anguishly for her. 😭😭💔 Sorry for your loss, btw.

My condolences on the loss of your Beloved pet. I too went through that suffering and lost 5 cats to FIP over a 3 year period.
