Thank you for doing more long-form videos for each day. The quick "here's what we did" videos are nice and snappy, but this gives a way more realistic feel of what it's like. Much love from an Iowa native now rooted in West Virginia

Hey Jo, Glad to hear you are enjoying our content format. Not sure if you've had a chance to watch our RAGBRAI videos from prior years but we took the same approach. The RAGBRAI videos from 2022 are embedded in the Apollo Mission series and the 2021 episodes are stand alone. They are all on BBB Adventures. Great to have a viewer from West Virgina. Thanks for watching. Enjoy the Ride

I love all the comments from viewers as you rode! The view from the recumbent is fun, such a different perspective! My mom sagged half way through and she got into the Storm Lake at 6:15. She waited 4+ hours for the Sag. :( I got into town just after her at 6:30 - and I was exhausted! She ended up having to take an emergency fire rescue truck backwards to get a sag, and she was waiting with 3 others! The sag services were not sufficient for the amount of riders or conditions.

Hey Greer, Sorry for the slow response. It's so unfortunate that you and your mother's experience was so terrible this year. As you know, a lot of that is due to the huge number of people participating this year. I hate to hear that someone has a bad time on RAGBRAI since our experience has been so good for so many years. Maybe after some time heals your memory, you and you mom and try it again. Thanks for waching. Enjoy the Ride

Howdy, Yes...there were A LOT of riders this year. I guess everyone thought the 50th anniversary ride would be a good year to ride. The bike traffic was bad at the beginning of the day but as the day progressed the riders spread out along the route as faster riders got in front and slower riders (like us) fell behind. We miss Taiwan and the awesome riding there. We are trying to figure out when we can visit there again. Thanks for watching. Enjoy the Ride

Hey Phyllis, There really were a lot of people this year....way more than normal which definitely created some unique and interesting challenges. The recumbent was a totally different experience with a totally new set of challenges for me. I did enjoy it but wished I'd had more of an opportunity to train on it. Disco did well, I would say he liked it, but he was a trooper. We are all looking forward to next year when we can have a more injury free and normal RAGBRAI. Hope to see you there. Hey John, Thanks for watching and for the feedback on our content. We really appreciate your support. Our coverage of Day 1 may have given a slightly worse perspective of the crowds since we probably left at the worse time since we left at the same time as a majority of the riders. Others that left earlier had a different experience but the lines for beer and food were much longer than other years. I believe next year will be back to a more "normal" level so hopefully we see you next July in Iowa. Thanks again for watching. Enjoy the Ride

Hey Scott, Sorry for the slow response. We are happy to hear you were looking forward to this video, hopefully we didn't disappoint. This was a tough year for a first RAGBRAI with the heat, length, hills and crowds. There are usually one of those factors but not all of them. We hope you decide to ride it again next year. We are sorry we didn't get a chance to connect. That's mostly the result of our abnormal RAGBRAI plan given my broken collarbone which meant we weren't out on the route much. I ride a two wheeled recumbent. But, that's because my back, neck and shoulders will not handle an upright bike any more. A three wheeled recumbent is great, you never have to put a foot down when you stop. I hope you enjoyed riding that rig.

Hey James, Thanks for watching and sharing your perspective. As you know, this was my first recumbent experience and I wasn't able to train on the bike and the first time I rode it was the morning of Day 1. Overall I had a great experience and see that the recumbent trike offers some interesting advantages like stability and never having to walk the bike and the comfort of the chair versus saddle. As you know the muscles you use are different and mine weren't ready so I was struggling more than expected by the end of the day. Also, the tandem trike is heavy and so getting it over the hills was part of the challenge. I was pleased with how well Barb and I communicated and cooperated together with zero practice. Anyway, thanks again for watching. We appreciate the support. Enjoy the Ride

Disco is a trooper. Different muscle groups. I used to ride my wife's 90's mountain bike and my quads would scream after a few blocks. Just the little difference in riding position makes a huge difference. To Mb: I heard that they had increased the SAG wagons, but still were overwhelmed. It must have been fun to hear your fans call out your name. Soon you'll have more than Duzer because Disco! LOL

Hey Craig, Nice to hear from you. Disco is such a good dog and did very well on RAGBRAI all things considered. It's amazing how these small changes in body position have such a big impact on our muscles. I guess going from a Priority Apollo to the recumbent tandem were not really small changes. It was really a struggle for me to get any power out of my legs and I had trouble getting enough hydration which contributed to the muscle cramps. It was a tough day for me but was happy I was able to ride. You are right, it was super fun to have so many subscribers and fans of BBB Adventures in one place and we hope people love Disco as much as we do. Thanks for watching. Enjoy the Ride

At time stamp 8:34, when I finally get too see you pedal. It looks like your seat was not adjusted right. You where too far forward and so you where not getting proper leg extension. It took me a few months to get that right on mine. I really hope you do look more into recumbent's, either two or three wheels. Once they are fitted right, they are som comfortable. Yes, slower up hills, but you never have to put a foot down, if your on a three wheeler. I hope to be riding a three wheeled recumbent by RAGBRAI for next year.

Howdy! Thanks for the comment and perspective on my recumbent position. I'm sure you are right. I didn't get any practice time on the trike and we didn't really spend any time optimizing the seat adjustment. By the end of the day my legs and knees were wrecked. However I do see the advantage in terms of overall seat and back comfort as well as the ease of slowing working through the traffic jams and not having to walk a bike. Hope to see you in Iowa in 2024. Thanks for watching and for the comment. Enjoy the Ride

Way to fight through it Brently. I couldn't imagine how hard it was riding the recumbent, especially up those hills. That thing looked heavy. I never experienced any bottlenecks or stopping during Ragbrai. I thought I saw a lot of bikes on the route but you were really in a large crowd of bikes. I guess it was because I was on the road no later than 5:00 AM sometimes earlier. The heat scared me so I wanted to get as many miles in as possible before it kicked in. Now seeing the crowds of bikes and lines you had to deal with I like my decision even more. I hope you did not ride the recumbent on Day 5 or 6. GHS

Hey Frank, Thanks...getting those leg cramps was a new and tough experience for me, not something I hope to repeat if possible. The recumbent tandem was heavy but also I had to opportunity to train on it or mess with the seat adjustments so that probably didn't help. It was smart of you to leave so early. It allowed you to avoid the heat and the crowds. I didn't end up riding the recumbent again for several reasons. Thanks for watching. Enjoy the Ride GHS

Yay, we are all color coordinated right, Brian??? Can Brantley shift into any gear he wants, or does the team have to decide together? Stay off the grass in Sioux City as there are goat heads (my only flat tbe whole trip). The red cones in the middle of the swarm were terrible. My anxieties go up just watching you ride next to them. Oh, sheesh, you recorded the guy hitting the cone. i hope he is a subscriber. When I went across the railroad crossing you were walking, it was still dark. There was people yelling to walk the tracks as it killed tires. There were 6 people with their bikes turned over at that crossing at 6 am. I could see some of the struggles you were all having as so many riders were able to go faster up the hills. I want to just give MB a big hug and tell her she can make it. Watching you have to walk the bikes from just the volume of people or an earlier accident is painful. That would sure make a very long day if you were not able to get ahead of it. How many times did this happen? I finished day one around 12:30 - 1 pm. You both did a great job videoing this day and showing the long lines and mass of people at all the stops. This was my biggest fear of the whole ride, so I kept getting up earlier and earlier. The down hills did look fun on the tandem. MB riding right of the white line at 12:15 eek. She was having a tough day."My husband watches your show." It's too funny. 2:30pm and at the meet tow n. Oh my. I cramped three times on day one, and every time it was when I sat on the ground during breaks. No fun. I think Brentley needs a big hug now, too. This is a great time to say thanks for Barb having to ride with such an injured push. Offered you water when there was strawberry milk up in the glass window. Grant was holding back the top shelf liquids in the ambulance. Ryan had to stop and give you a motivational speech. At this point, we all know he could have said it could be worse as there are no mosquitoes....lol. A nice pair of peeps on the rescued tandem. Was this the first time either of you had to swag on Ragbrai?

What time did you head out in the morning? I headed out the first day around 6:30 and tried to head out the following days shortly after 6:00. Assuming you were your normal fitness and trained, what are your thoughts contrasting the recumbent tandem and the red dragon (upright/normal tandem)? You’re gonna have to engineer up some sort of cooling system for Disco’s basket (Builder Series)! What did Barb ride when you weren’t riding? Tons of questions…. Huh! It was a tough week with the heat, but it was pretty hot back in 2021 also (Le Mars to Clinton).

  • @BBB_Adventures

Hey Steve! Great to hear from you. I think we left around 7:00, maybe a bit earlier and I think that's one reason we hit so many traffic jams. I think a majority of riders left about that time. Good question about the bike differences but I may not have a great answer. I wasn't able to train on the recumbent tandem and honestly we didn't get a chance to train in general. Also, we didn't spend any time adjusting or optimizing the seat position on the recumbent. Given all of that I don't think my experience on the recumbent puts me in a position to make a valid comparison. But given the choice, I'd pick the Red Dragon. I like the idea of a Disco Cooling System (DCS). I'll work on that. :) Barb and Lance were going to ride the recumbent tandem when we weren't riding and SAG Lance's Priority 600, but they decided to head home after Day 1. It was absolutely a tough week and hopefully next year will be better from a weather perspective and we'll be on the Red Dragon so we hope you are there so we can hang out more. Thanks for watching. Enjoy the Ride

I do think on Day 1 we started about the same time as everyone else typically gets on the route which maximized our chances of hitting the traffic jams. Even with the crowds, it was still RAGBRAI and fun. Thanks for watching. Enjoy the Ride

Hey Dave, You are spot on...there is a huge timing component and on Day 1 we left at possibly the worst time to avoid traffic jams. Your strategy of leaving early was much better. Thanks for watching. Enjoy the Ride
