This is really an excellent idea to do a series of "behind the scenes" video. It shows how RAGBRAI works and its nice to know that for people not familiar with the ride, to anticipate some of the unknown conditions that are hard to describe on the RAGBRAI website. Thank you for doing this!!!

4am, and I was playing my zipper song. Great job Agnes. Mt. Carmel was a great town looks like you had a little time to crawl back into the tent and have a nap. Wait, you didn't ride self supported this year. Poor Disco with all these strange vans and cats. He probably slept well when he got home. Enjoyed the Peter interview and the routine of the bike repair shops. Pack up at 2 pm, set camp, beers, and steaks. Interesting the town has to maintain the building, and yet the church won't give up the land. Oh, the poor ladies, when you mentioned they were going to get their corn pee'd on. It is great that the people of the town made an activity of mowing the community grass. What a neat idea. You both did great interviewing. Every camp needs a great chef to save having to hunt down food. I got water from the national guard on day 4 or 5. Tina was a great story with adaptive sports. I'm glad you mentioned she was blind. Otherwise, i wasn't going to figure that one out. Will be making a small donation to that cause. The greeting angels were a great part of that stop. It sure looks like a person only sees 2% of Ragbrai each year. Thanks, Mike and Lori. What a great episode you made.

Hey Dave, Agnes is AWESOME!! Disco did pretty well given all the people, dogs, etc. He was exhausted by the end of the day and crawled into the tent and crashed when we got back to camp. The situation with the church is a tragedy. The town can really afford all the maintenance and the church doesn't help anymore but also won't let the town do something else with the property. Not a good deal. Thanks for watching and for the detailed response. Love it. We are super happy you enjoyed this episode. Enjoy the Ride

Kudos to small towns, and I mean small! Having been a part of small-town planning, I have seen how much effort and work goes into making a great experience for both riders and town folk. Mount Carmel came up with a very clever moto and ran with it. Good job!

Hey Craig, Totally agree. We were so impressed with how the good people of Mount Carmel created such a great experience for the riders and how the entire town got involved. Given that the church has been the anchor for the town for a long time and is by far the biggest and most prominent structure, the heavenly theme was fantastic. It's sad that beautiful church is no longer in use and the "business" arrangement between the Catholic Church and the town doesn't allow the building to be used for anything else. We had a great time in Mount Carmel and are happy to hear you enjoyed this episode. Thanks for watching. Enjoy the Ride

@@cdmiller51 The towns people told us the town owns the building but the church owns the ground but somehow the terms don't allow the town to repurpose the building and can't afford to keep up the building. I tried to leave shortly after 6 (official start time when police, ambulance, etc) were to be setup and ready to go), but looking at other KZread videos it looks like quite a few folks left at 4 to 4:30ish to beat the heat (and it looked like security, etc were out early). In hindsight, with the heat, I wish I had left about 4:30 each day. Putting that in my contingency plans for next year. BTW, loved the background music, the one at the Iowa Beer Bus reminded me of Crosby, Stills & Nash. The young lady that sang (entertainer) was really good. The blind lady was awesome and is an inspiration to all of us. How in the world did I miss you guys there!

Hey Steve, So great to hear from you and thanks for watching. I think you're right, this year a lot of people were leaving very early to avoid the heat and/or the crowds. Historically we haven't left camp until around 7 but to your point we might want to leave earlier when the weather is forecasted to be as hot as it was this year. I love you picked up on that song, I also thought it sounded like a Crosby, Stills and Nash song. :) The young lady singing at Mount Carmel (before the rock band) was fantastic and she was only 14 years old. Tina the blind athlete was a true inspiration, what an amazing person. We are so grateful our paths crossed with hers in Mount Carmel. Sorry you missed us on Day 2. Hopefully we'll be able to ride like normal next year and we can hang out more. Thanks for your comment. Enjoy the Ride

Spoke replacements on Ragbrai tend to be more often due to heavy use of roadways. A good number of riders train using shared paths that are a lot smoother than the roadways are, hence it puts a lot more strain on the bikes. Last year when we were setup in Havelock there was rough railroad tracks that were popping spokes left and right.
