Fantastic. A constructor's dream. Not long bought a G90 which does all I need after years of building qrp rigs which were too bulky, limited and decided after years of it to buy the G90. Wish this was around at the time. I could still go ahead, but why. The enjoyment of constructing and learning as I have done in 50 years of it. Still got some valve gear working. But this is superb .I have a pi 4 doing little with 4gig ram. Thanks for the info.

Hey there, I've been getting into HAM and snagged a UV-5R. Obviously, it's pretty limited as far as actually picking up most of the things around my area as a lot is DRS. Can this do DRS? Also, I'm mainly interested in building out an automated scanner. Is that something that can be done in the open-source software or would it have to be done in code?

I tried to do a group buy for the PREAMP (5w) a few months back. nobody wanted it because i think the assembled price from PCB way was $179 per unit...this just so happened to be during the peak of the shortages. maybe the price is better now. i wish someone would try and beat this price. i'm sure i'm not alone when is say that i would buy one if we could get these prices down.

I find Radioberry to be an excellent receiver. However, it is a bit tricky to setup, and I've decided to do a video tutorial after doing some research and many tests with tries and errors. My latest gripe is that the Raspberry OS images are constantly changing. Just recently, I found out that Bullseye no longer has the Linux headers available out of the box, and the relevant package is not available in the repository either. Conversely, Bookworm doesn't require any extra commands to install the correct headers, and a user reported that it should.

This design uses an older AD9866 ( 12-bit 80MSPS ADC, 12-bit 200MSPS DAC ) Mixed-Signal Front End. It was commonly used in Broadband Modem transceivers, where it's probably getting sourced from now. 😆 According to Analog Devices the AD9866 is not recommended for new designs! AD9866 was around USD 40,- /pcs. Intel Cylone 10CL016 in 144-LQFP cost around USD 35,- /pcs. Since you're probably buying an upcycled modem MxFE, this product should cost nowhere near USD 150,-

if the hw (PCB + assembly + parts) cost around 50USD than 150 USD is realistic. For small production runs (like below 100000) 3x multiplier is recommended in business, if you want to stay in business.

Brilliant wideband TXaudio, apart from too much software based compression, but it looks like a very nice unit. Though it is very painful to see that you can rather use the hat OR do some necessary cooling🙄. I guess if you resolder the connectors the other way around you can run the hat as a "shoe", underneath the board and can give the CPU & GPU is desperately needed cooling. Why are electronic- and software desingers so often people who don't actually use their stuff and bump into these basic flaws? My Pi4 is already at 53 degrees with less than 30% CPU load while being attached to a big passive metal heatsink! When using an IR gun the heat sink is actually just above 50°C while decoding a few HFDL channels at the same time showing planes all over the world. (OpenWebSDR+ with ready made Pi4 image, brilliant! but a different subject) According to sales order product description as well as Analog Devices AD9866 datasheet, this is HF only and only 12 bit, which is quite challenging for an HF receiver, for TX its more than good enough. It is nice to see something so powerful that it can be operated stand alone, Respect! I guess when in the field with "noisy" electric resonant TX antennas 12 bits is a good-enough compromise. Only at home with a high dynamic ultra wide band antenna a 12bit RX will be asking for trouble. Here in Germany I sometimes receive Radio Romania and Voice of Turkey with more than 90dB signal/noise and that requires 16Bit or more if you don't want to use an attenuator and risk droping weak signals nearby. This HF transceiver front end is relatively inexpensive and probably worth the "12 bit compromise" - thanks for sharing!

@@tracymoon4437 1. I am currently unable to use a any PCB design program (used Eagle long time ago), but I am working on regaining the skills with an open source PCB design program 2. I don't have the knowledge to design such a modern and complex unit, though I have been designing and selling radio modems in the 90's (µ-Modem / MX10). 3. I would have to see if there are any transceiver chips available that do more than 12 bit, because apart from ham radio most UHF/SHF applications (e.g. mobile networks) nothings works over long distances that would require a higher dynamic RX, for my understanding this is mainly SWL-DXing / Ham Radio, in other words mainly for the super nerds😂. When you use this wide bandwidth of a few MHz, most RF protocols don't require high dynamic to get a good bit error rate. I think this chip has been designed for baseband operation, not for actual HF operation that we use it for. So no, I am incapable of designing something like this, therefore have a lot of respect for those who do and am thankful, but I would be even happier with them if they would sometimes have a little more practical approach and also use their stuff for a few days and be critical about it when operating it in the real world. The good thing about the PI4 cooling issue is that when soldering the header the other way around on the PI and TRX-PCB, it will work without any re-design, only the basic 12Bit lack of dynamic issue on the RX will remain. But as seen here it works quite well if you operate it under certain conditions and don't look so closely. I have been designing many things (in RF/audio/DC domains) that worked but were not good enough for real world application for my taste and just showing them at fairs, people would come by and offer me money to buy these prototypes, but I refused because I knew it could be done better in detail, while causing me less to no trouble when offering the maintenance/repair for a mature product.

@@md.shahinurrahman747 you'll need to check your local licensing laws. Any way, if your main aim is to transfer files, just use a mobile phone or PC over the internet. Using this will not be as cheap, fast or secure.

Any files of the average sizes used today would take a long long time to transfer. It would also have to be sent in the clear as, at least for the U.S., transmitting encrypted messages is illegal. And yes, you have to be a licensed ham operator with hf privileges to transmit on those bands. The bottom line? Don’t do it.

@@eddthirty4065 I thought it would be used an alternative to the present internet communication system. Since this system's network covers all over the world, therefore the place where cable internet network or mobile network is not reachable or not much strong can be used for that tele-communication. Yes File Transfer is one of the main concern over this communication also. My be this is not much matured enough for these purpose till now. But hope soon it will be purposefull also :)

No tests of the RX sensitivity and discrimination? That's by far the biggest problem with SDR in general, especially "simple" radios like this.
