You can get loads of other similar glassware as well
Some good items there, just promise you won’t hold some of the more active stuff too often. I think many of us can agree we’d like you around as long as possible. 👍

Its really only the Ones that emit low gamma he should watch out for, the alpha particles won't do anything to him unless he inhales the alpha emitting object or gets it inside his body somehow.

Hello, i got Interested in this stuff after i purchased a panavia tornado APU, this has bearing housings made out of thorium doped magnesium.....ooops!! Found out on Internet,a guy who measured the radiation of the bearing housings, his result was 14 microsievert per hour. I started to Think about this,how dangerous is this?I am not going play with this engine everyday BUT anyway!....so now i have purchased a gang of different soviet apparatus to check radiation/Stephan

I would advise against handling the Radium painted watch face, it would very problematic to ingest even a very small amount. Also I recommend putting the fiestaware in a sealed bag. Uranium Dioxide is contained primarily in the glaze but also exists in the clay that the ceramics are made from, when broken small particles of uranium oxides can quite easily contaminate objects that come in to contact with it. As for the Americium-241 that you appear to have extracted from an ionization smoke detector, I would recommend limiting handling this with bear hands, at store it somewhere that no child could access. I would also refrain from holding the radioactive samples directly on the mesh screen at the end of your probe. As for handling the Thorium containing Lamp mantle it would be preferable to not handle such items with bear hands. Over time the thorium embedded in the fibers can form dust which can be inhaled and becomes an inhalation hazard. It should be in a sandwich bag. At a minimum.

Adding to this, the radium watch face is a significant contamination hazard due to the radon-222 produced by its alpha decay. The radon decays very quickly and when confined, can leave trace amounts of radioisotopes on nearby surfaces.
this is pretty cool

2:37 We have an Orphan source!
I currently have a gmc-320+ and an old Russian DP-5A but I still really want a Series 900 Mini Monitor, and my two check sources are Americium 241 and a 6” fiesta-ware plate.

I know this is a bit late, but I can relate. I have a gmc-300e + and a ДП-5Б and I really want a series 900 as well. My check sources are Americium 241 and some uranium ore.
Could you do an updated video on you radioactive stuff! That would be fun to see! :D

There is a video by Cody's lab where he puts his geiger counter in middle of 1 ton of potassium chloride and gets a pretty high reading can you test this with other potassium compounds like potassium nitrate in lower quantities to see how much radiation it emits Also can you test thoriated tungsten welding rods. Im trying to get some radioactive this but its hard to find any in India welding rods are my only hope

Sorry if this is a dumb thing to ask. Isn't it dangerous to be holding all this stuff and keeping it around the house?
@Weaponsandstuff93
4 жыл бұрын
If I did it every day probably, it's very low exposure time, in terms of where you store it, as long as it's not too close to food or where you sleep it's not a problem.
Does all fiestaware sound that good? Or is there date range I should look for?
@Weaponsandstuff93

Has to be the old "radioactive red" stuff as they used Uranium oxide in the paint.

Get a cheap gieger counter, it is easy to find at antique stores, but there is a lot of non-radioactive ones mixed in. It is quite obvious when you find them with a counter or scintillator.
I know you dislike M17's, but do you know any visual difference between the A1 and A2? I'm just curious as I can't seem to find any difference myself, except for the dates.
@Weaponsandstuff93
4 жыл бұрын
The A1 had the resuscitation tube, that was meant to allow the wearer to give CPR to someone, it causes lots of leaks in the masks, so the A2 just carried the drinking tube over and scrapped the air tube.

I don't have a DP-63 but it's probably a radium luminous screen, a bit like how all the old Radium aircraft dials were radioactive. Quite a few geigers come with a check source as well to test they work.
I know this is a dumb question but how can radiation poisoning be cured? Or is their even a way to be cured after a large amout of radiation? And how much radiation is to be considered deadly?
@Weaponsandstuff93

There is medical treatment but once you get a really nasty dose you're basically dead.
