Racism for Sale - BBC Africa Eye documentary
In February 2020, a shocking video began to circulate on Chinese social media. A group of African children are being instructed, by a voice off-camera, to chant phrases in Chinese. The kids repeat the words with smiles and enthusiasm - but they don’t understand that what they’re being told to say is “I am a black monster and my IQ is low.” The clip ignited outrage in China and beyond.
But no-one ever answered the crucial questions: Why was this filmed? Where was it shot? Who made it?
These questions send #BBCAfricaEye and #BBCEyeInvestigations reporters Runako Celina and Henry Mhango on a journey into a Chinese video-making industry that exploits vulnerable children across the continent.

Africa Eye brings you original, investigative journalism revealing secrets and rooting out injustice in the world’s most complex and exciting continent. Nothing stays hidden forever.

Slowly Africa is rising from its slumber and will surely be proud to raise her head up again and the only way we can do that is to build ourselves 1st and lets others come to us not us going to them just like the Chinese did. This is a masterpiece of western countries or BBC, paying Chinese to make videos. Maybe some businessmen will make a blessing video. The BBC and the American media have been slandering China. For example, Xinjiang. Even provoke conflicts between Chinese men and women. For example, ask actors to perform Chinese men beating women on the street, and finally being rescued by white people. are all false。The Sino-Indian border line drawn by the United Kingdom, and the line between Egypt and Sudan drawn by the United Kingdom. The purpose is to provoke conflicts in other countries。In fact, Western media such as the BBC have been making rumors that China's investment in Africa is a colony. This time they made Africa hate China by framing it。

They were excited to make some money for their family and to be sharing a video across the world and had no idea that some evil people in China were making them say disgusting things about themselves.

In fact the Chinese government should punish this guy and the children and parents should receive financial compensation and full time paid trauma counseling. It's a shame that the Chinese government doesn't think to adress and stop that. I think that is one of the most disgusting things I have seen. And I have seen a lot.

Thank you. As an Asian person, I hope that other Asian people are honest in self-reflecting on the Anti-Black prejudices within our own communities. The Chinese government needs to do much more to combat racism instead of just giving lip service; they have the power to change people's hearts. I love my African brothers and sisters and I will continue to speak out in the name of worldly brotherhood and sisterhood. And I will not ignore the prejudiced, for with the right teaching, anyone is capable of change.

Start with electing a good leader to get their people out of property and provide them with good education. The only way to get out of racism is to be successful in life.

The fact that this documentary is being pulled down from Chinese social media platforms goes on to depict that this problem is bigger than it seems. I hope this video will spread and create awareness especially among African leaders. They need to stand up and defend the dignity of the fellow black people they lead. we need to put our people first. This mentality of looking up to these foreign entities for charity is the reason we are treated like we are less human. I hope the leadership of Malawi learns a lesson from this.

it's the sad consequence of countless fake news by BBC about China. That's why BBC isn't allowed in China anymore. Also, it's racist in depicting all Chinese as bad while just finding one single incident of an evil Chinese racist then extrapolating onto the who ad industry who gives Africans quick incomes

lol they took down the documentaries, but not the exploitive racist videos. China is for China and no one else. Africans need to get with the program and be the same. If it doesn’t benefit primarily Africans in Africa don’t entertain it, period.

Wow! Thanks, sister. Very beautiful work
I am not a violent person, but if I was there, that dude would be in shreds, one tried that nonsense here in Kenya and the outrage was something else. They also got deported - same day. As Africans we need to rewrite our story, not to take such crap and change our mindsets. We are beautiful, we are bold, we are strong and not everyone who comes in the name of goodwill, really is up to doing good. Look at the colonialists and where we are. This is infuriating.
