Former Migori governor Obado has been accused of Murder and rape and still enjoys close relations with the president, ( possible candidate for civil service appointment), Kiambu governor was accused of raping, impregnating his teenager househelp and refusing to provide adequate help for the child, current agriculture minister has open rape cases. There have been numerous cases among the police raping and even killing women in jail cells.

The pain of being infected with HIV and being sexually compelled is so deep that some of those victims cant heal. Some people are so cruel but as long as there are bad people also there are good hearted people ,that is what give me hope.

I live in America and I can’t tell you the number of times I’ve been sexually harassed at work. It’s disgusting and it makes you feel dirty. Luckily, I was able to quit my job and move to another job. These women do not have a choice because that is the only job there is there in their village and they have children. It’s heartbreaking 💔. Africa needs to have their own ME TOO movement and name and shame these men in public. I don’t drink tea but if I did I would definitely boycott.

naming and shaming doesn't do anything. in fact for a victim to believe its emotionally equivalent is heart breaking to think the most damning thing about being assaulted was the social shame.

My own mother went through this in the 1970s in Hawaii. She got a job cleaning hotel rooms which is considered a very good job, but the manager changed the requirement for the job that she must have sex with him, so she quit. She eventually found another job that didn't have such requirements.

These big companies should also be severely held accountable for turning a blind eye on this matter for over 3 decades !!!!

I worked with Unilever for over 5 years in corporate centre London and always thought it's one of the best companies in world to work for. I hope Unilever has not only sacked this guy but have handed over compensation package to all his victims.

This is really hurting, I am in tea industry in Kericho too after having worked in James Finlay too from 2000. I am really shocked! We women in tea have really suffered!! Men really look down on women in so many aspects there's got to be a major survey on this issues including work related molestation, greavances and failure to be promoted including sexual harrasment. We invite more of this and the government should consider chipping in too. Women leaders where are you?? Fida where are you?? The director should fires all managers and employ new team of managers especially those professionals who have work as seasonal at tea estates and not been confirmed permanent and have qualification to run the sector instead of appoint unqualified personnel whom they end up forgetting the actual business and running up misusing the resources and embarking nepotism and conflict of interest or harassment.

They haven't all been removed. some have only been suspended pending a "full and transparent investigation". They'll all be back to their usual behaviour in due time.

It’s absolutely heartbreaking to hear these women tell their stories. Permanent injury, HIV, work constantly being used to essentially force them to have sex with their supervisors…and the companies who employ them trying to cover their asses while saying it’s not the huge problem that it is. CEOs and other execs and shareholders that don’t give a damn what women on the other side of the world go through, so long as they can make more profits. Shame on all of them, shame on the ones that weren’t investigated in this video, but likely have the same rampant abuse. Shame on companies that don’t care who suffers, so long as they are bringing in more and more profit. I feel for the men in this video too. They suffer the same painful injuries as the women from working in the fields, and they get tossed aside, made redundant, with no warning in a place with little other jobs available. Profit at the cost of human dignity and lives, that’s what these multinational corporations are all about, and the suffering have no recourse when these people can pay their way out of anything. Until the entire world starts caring more about what happens behind the products they buy, caring about the working conditions for everyone regardless of where they are and what their work is, I’m afraid it won’t change. I really hope a lot of people see this and start demanding action be taken against companies and people like this.

Hiv in Africa is huge because people are malnourished of nutrition and vitamins, proper sanitation facilities and access to clean water. There is Also alcohol, drugs but then you also have people in Africa used as guinea pigs when it comes to vaccinate trials. Instead of giving them access to the basic necessities like what I mentioned they...give them "synthetic materials directly into bodies" weakening them even more!!

Also the testing rate is set higher for hiv than other countries, meaning that people with malnutrition deficiency etc test positive for hiv when the terrain is the source of the problem!!..they don't want to give them access to good nutritional foods and clean water and safe health care. Wah, I applaud Kate, she really put herself in an uncomfortable situation so as to help Tom tell the victims story. From literally doing the manual labor for weeks to going into a hotel room with a know sexual predator, hongera Kate. You have made us see what sexually assaulted victims go though. Good work Tom, also engage the public, let us know how we can help, is there a foundation for victims, how can we reach out and offer our assistance? Foundation in Africa! Hmm, I will no mock you but there is nothing such as that. They are only setup for money laundering or fraud. We have seen even foundations saying they are there to improve schools or build water pumps and they make promises, take pictures for their propaganda and that's it. Nothing ever changes. In fact, most of the owners of these foundations are also involved in pyramid schemes and need ways to clean their cash...

I was sexually harassed by my boss at an Italian restaurant in our town when I was in my late teens and early twenties. I was about 19 when I started there or 18 yrs old. I reported him to the police with my younger sister who was a minor at the time as she is 3 yrs younger. He did it to her as well and most of his young female employees and adult females. He only employed young girls and women. He never employed boys or men.

The car conversation in this video reminded me of that time when I had to get a lift from my boss as he wouldn't let me walk home even though he let some others walk home alone. He never had sex with us or anything but he touched us without our consent and we both told him no when we were working separately from each other but had to get a lift alone with him. He would insist that I sat in the front seat and I didn't want to. He touched my legs, back, face and shoulders. I didn't want him to touch me at all. He was my college friends Dad and my boss. He was in a position of power over us and did the same to my sister when she worked on different days. We would turn down the lift but he insisted pretending it was to keep us safe but he really wanted to get one of us alone so he could invade our personal space without consent. He used the fact that he was liked and powerful in town and we'll known as people wouldn't believe that he would be a creep like that. One day I told my sister that I was going to report our boss to the police and my sister then told me that he did the same things to her and others too. Even though my boss could organise paying us at the end of the last shift of the week, he refused to do that and made sure that he called us in one by one as young female staff on our days off. We said we couldn't and he said we must and that he didn't have time to sort it out on another day when we would be working. He would get me to have some tea or coffee and some ice cream. I didn't want to have anything, I just wanted to get paid and go home. He did the wages in the evening or the afternoons so they could be paid in our last shifts but he made us pick them up alone. While his wife and kids were at home. He would make me sit next to him, when I went to get my wages. He touched my legs and arms. He moved his chair closer so he could touch me. I moved my chair away from him, then he moved closer again. He was such a creep, a perve and he deliberately employed young girls and women to get access to them. I saw his profile on Facebook, even though he is retired now. He is grooming women and girls in other ways, by chatting with them at thier work when they served him. He would seem nice I'm sure and insist they meet up with him for coffee. I saw in the comments and his profile statuses that he met up with a shop assistant from Tesco regularly and there was photos of him hugging her and touching her shoulders. Giving her gifts and going for coffee with her. He was an old guy when I was in my 20's he must be in his 60s or 70s now maybe. It makes me feel sick that he is still doing it and noone else has been brave enough to report him to the police. He is in the rotary club and because of that people are scared to report him as too many people will defend him and say he's just being friendly and he's Italian it's how they are very touchy feely. It's no excuse to touch people without consent especially when they say no again and again. My sister and I gave our statements to the police and another girl decided to give a statement too but she got scared and backed out. Even though she gave a statement she retracted it so then the police didn't go ahead with the rest of the investigation. My sister talked to other girls but even though the said it made them uncomfortable. Some defended him and said it was wrong but he's just a friendly guy. Some wanted to report him but were too scare to do so. So our case was reported but we couldn't get him arrested. He was able to keep doing it for yrs to other vulnerable girls and women before he retired and after he retired by chatting with women at thier jobs and meet with up with them alone. My old boss from yrs ago made my skin crawl and made me feel unsafe. If that other girl went ahead to give evidence in court with us if it went that far we could have gotten further in trying to get him arrested and charged. He only got a verbal warning not to do it again and if he did he would be arrested and put in jail immediately, then he would have to go to court then. Sadly even though he continued to do it no one else was brave enough to report him and take it further. So he was free to be alone with women other than his wife. Who possibly knew what he was doing but refused to believe it was anything other than being too friendly. After we reported him we both quit and I saw his daughter every day on the bus to College. She used to talk to me a lot as we were friends. She blanked me and gave me evil looks and hated me and my sister for reporting him. We were not in the wrong he was the one committing a crime every day and getting away with it. It makes me angry that he is able to continue to do that. He wife let's him get away with it without calling him out on it or divorcing him. She's still with him.

I was on attachment in one of the flower farms in Thika 8 years ago. My supervisor was a man. At that time I didn't understand why he told me never to go to any department by myself, and that I should always notify him in which greenhouse I was. But he probably saved me from a lot of trouble. One time I was excited to drive the truck carrying waste material, I forgot to say where I was going. With me, there were 2 guys, and the dumping area was a bit bushy .on coming back, he asked me where I was, who I was with and if anything had happened..me I was just excitedly telling him how I drove the truck ..the look on his face only relaxed when I said nothing had happened....I was lucky, but maybe someone else wasn't

This is really so painful to swallow,.Kenyan government should take immediate action for the compensation of this innocent workers and the whole management boards brought to books for negligence if the workers and their working conditions and ignorance to their greivances

That was painful, especially to the mother who had no choice but to let her daughters get in the hands of the people who abused her.

I admire so much the beauty of Kenya, and I like to drink tea too. But I had no idea what is happening behind the multi-billion company names such as Lipton and their tea plantations. Dear Girls, my heart is crying with you all. Find a way to make a class action lawsuit against those companies so they open their eyes and give you better opportunities for work and life. Dear Tom Odula, my highest admiration! I hope your voice is loud enough so that many can hear you, and that your courage is strong enough, so you can support those in need.

I stopped buying Lipton tea years ago for other reasons, but this just proves it to me that i made the right desicion. That last "interview" at the hotel was absolutely horrific. Something needs to change.

This is completely inhuman, it's men like this who makes it difficult for me to defend other men. I hope justice is served.

Thank you Tom and Kate , due to very high unemployment and desperation levels in Kenya ,these things runs deep in almost all sectors ,whether in manufacturing, hospitality ,farms etc ,it's chronic

When she said she's HIV positive n she lost her marriage..it really broke me

I can only imagine the pain, the guilt these women carry in their heart and also the desperation knowing that they have to do this to feed their kids... Men like Jeremiah deserve very long prison sentences.

I am in pure shock and utter disbelief. African governments are largely to blame. They should firstly ensure that these companies that are benefiting from their soil and their people are paying fair wages and then also, that the Africans working for these companies are not being exploited have stricter rules and regulations regarding sexual harassment, someone suggested female managers if that can’t be done then where is the police, let female police officers be regulars on these farms etc.💔

Oh my it is a real shame to know that a woman looking an honest job and yet go through such abuse

Suspension of the perpetrators is not enough, they should be arrested and prosecuted, my thoughts go out to the abused women, you deserve justice.

My heart bleeds as a father to daughters and a husband. It's disheartening the levels of desperation and mental torture that these managers put the women through just to exploit them sexually in exchange for a job and renewal of contracts. I can imagine the women's anxiety. These predators should face jail time.

I remember another documentary of the same nature. The women were lure into sex trafficking in another country Italy. Many women got pregnant and their children were taken from them. The Europeans were behinds the scenes using the black men and women to lure them in. It is black peoples being used to bemuse The Europeans as well in America take advantage of peoples of colors, Historically.

@Stuart MacPherson France has less than 1% convictions on rape accusations. It is a pandemic, sexual assault. Gang rape has it's own special name in France, tournantes. Look up Samira Bellil - a real martyr. The truth is the world is uncivilized. Human trafficking takes place in every "civilized" country. Women and children disappear everyday in the West. There are few if any countries that are exceptions, and none of those are in "The West". I highly doubt any country is without it. You are using circular logic. Taking responsibility for themselves would involve killing/castrating their attackers - and then they would be put in jail for assault or murder and not believed about being sexually assaulted. The U.S. has decent laws about self-defense but you aren't allowed to have guns in much of Europe. Force multipliers are the real answer, but only if they are allowed to take action without ruining their lives even further. The circle of silence is the biggest issue: not being believed. This is also compounded by the issue of false accusations, especially by women in the West. So it takes a court case for each situation. "Gang grooming" is very common in Europe, sadly.

If the British came to manage it for you to ensure it stops you would still lament that they are taking your jobs away. We have a rotten society full of tribalism, corruption and sexual exploitation. I cringed watching how desperate that Chebochok guy was acting. I am sorry about what that undercover girl had to go through to bring this to light. I am heartbroken for our mothers and sisters. I went to Kenya many years ago and heard a news report while there that girls are failing in the school system due to sexual abuse! 1 in 3 girls are abused, which also occurs at school, it was shocking. I made attempts to engage people in such conversations in a social consciousness context, but it was difficult. Unfortunately by the time girls are women such behavior is reoccurring! However the fact that a Kenyan news channel reported such means it's recognized by Kenyans and they have laws to protect children but continue to struggle like most of the world with protection of women and children! Tougher sentences, an overhaul of the justice system may deter some of this damaging abuse! Men and boys need education alongside girls and women globally to highlight attitudes of sexism/abuse to create a safer world!

This is happening in our country,Kenya in every sphere of life.I am a widow for over ten years and the men in my neighborhood started posting and sending funny texts in my phone under fake names, others invite me into bars etc because they wanted to take advantage of the little I may have remained with or help in processing property transfers in the process asking favours etc. The same men would await my daughter on the way,get her phone number and next you hear one inviting her into a restaurant,the same man who invited me into a bar🥱. There's no where to report such harassment because everywhere you go,you find such men who want to come into your house and continue the cycle. It's an evil that need to be dealt with from every level.

It is sad that Kenyans can not figure out that their independence does not exist. Without economic and financial independence you Kenyans will continued to be owned by Europeans. Brilliant reporting it is tragic that our mothers and daughters had to go through such abuse. Life imprisonment for such people. I cried the entire time may the Lord begin to heal wounds and trauma of these precious woman 🙏🏻❤

This happens right here in the USA too! When you are young with no education, you are desperate to find a good paying job... Specially when they think no one will find out about the advances they make to a young woman! It is sad!

Sometimes it's hard to watch these documentaries because of the brutal truth and evil acts amongst us. But these women are so powerful and courageous. It's not easy to relive constant abuse. Thank you to everyone who brought this to light. I hope the predators are punished to the fullest extent to cause such inhumane pain and hardships.
