Rachmaninoff Paraphrasing Mendelssohn : Scherzo “A Midsummer Night's Dream” - Lugansky
Музыка
Felix Mendelssohn (1809-1847)
Scherzo from “A Midsummer Night's Dream”, Op. 61 (1842); arr. for piano by Rachmaninoff (1933)
Nikolai Lugansky, 2021, Mariinsky Theatre
“I wandered lonely as a cloud
That floats on high o'er vales and hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host, of golden daffodils;
Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.
Continuous as the stars that shine
And twinkle on the milky way,
They stretched in never-ending line
Along the margin of a bay:
Ten thousand saw I at a glance,
Tossing their heads in sprightly dance.
The waves beside them danced; but they
Out-did the sparkling waves in glee:
A poet could not but be gay,
In such a jocund company:
I gazed-and gazed-but little thought
What wealth the show to me had brought:
For oft, when on my couch I lie
In vacant or in pensive mood,
They flash upon that inward eye
Which is the bliss of solitude;
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils.”
William Wordsworth, 1802

His extraordinary technique and understanding of musical expression are not far off pure genius !
I'm currently learning this piece, and now I'm even more impressed by his performance

Its a terror isn't it?? I first learned it about 10 years and performed it ONCE. It was terrifying, but I made it through somehow!!

@@99Grigor Yes, really. I am struggling a lot
Incredibile. Tecnica trascendentale.
Clear and solid as ever. His expression and touch just 'ring' one's ear. It always amazes me that, however the passage is complicated and full of notes, he makes the structure of the music-both LH&RH- be heard. It's like he illuminates the music. FYI, this does not mean that he cannot play so-called 'dark' music. But even with dark, melancholic, deep phrases he can make us see(or in this case, 'hear') through the darkness. It's always a magical experience, listening to Lugansky's performance of a piece.

何という軽妙さ!
Is this a real concert? Is it just me or does the audience not move at all after the performance? Very hard to make out the audience and they are completely still
Кровь и Ночь. 😇
Doesn't compare to Benno's performance.
