    @@NEWBOTANICA I'm genuinely curious as to why those two are viewed under different perspectives. Say for example we have a Chinese girl adopted by two white parents, who do not have any contact with other Asians and similarly the girl never gets in touch with Chinese culture. It would make sense if she said she identifies as white. (Though there are quite some different experiences for her that would make this somewhat of an issue) Another example would be a white dude growing up in a black neighborhood. He picks up all the behavioural traits and the culture with him. Would it be that crazy if he identifies as black? I would say it definitely has issues, but both make sense in how they came to that conclusion. How is this not as acceptable as misaligned gender identities?

Research it on your own time, or don't. Im not here to make the world understand.

    Swang ToTheLeft Saying that a white person has a statistically better chance to get out of poverty is too broad. The more precise determiner is family structure: people who grow up in stable families with a mother and a father have a better chance of making it than those who don't, regardless of race. Now the real question is why certain ethnic groups have less stable family structures than others. It can't be because of the racist system because black people had stabler families pre-1960s when there was overt institutional racism than they do today.

  • @julesfreis6813

    @julesfreis6813

    9 жыл бұрын

    Swang ToTheLeft I read the entire comment, I just said that family stability is the more precise predictor of future success than race. The best proof for that is that recent African immigrants that have stabler families than African Americans also have greater success in climbing the social ladder. No way to explain that through a racial prism. As for single-parent families, part of the reason is irresponsible males, as you say, but part of it is government policy too, and their subsidizing of single motherhood. Therein lies part of the reason for the decline of the black family post-1960s: it might not be the result of official racism, but rather a perverse consequence of anti-racist policies.

Or if someone was raised by African parents in Africa, but was white?

    I realize she doesn't really know but she does have a unique background and upbringing with only one white sibling, abusive parents, and several black siblings she had to protect and I think that impacted her psyche. I think she did in a way do what benefited her but it was a survival mechanism that worked for her but wouldn't most white people. Her documentary and book get more into it.

    I actually agree with this... But... We have a different mindset in Puerto Rico... If people want to identify themselves as Puerto Ricans... we dont mind. We cebrate it. Tony Croato - one of our musicians of folklore - wasn't Puerto Rican, but he came to love and live in the island and work its soil and sing about it. That said... I don't think it is the same thing. Race does exist as a matter of biology though. It is one of the things that makes the overall human race varied. Culture is more about space where a people in it share similar traditions and the likes. Although culture tends to be a phenomenon associated with a region, we have Puerto Rican descendants in the mailand that carry on the culture of the island... And this might go hand in hand with roots. But we also have folks who aren't PRicans that also got to love the culture and aren't in the island... I guess it comes down to an appreciation of roots. In this case... The lady here has a great appreciation for a culture... But I think it's a little bit of a step to try to identify with a race. You can identify with the culture though as cultures are human phenomenons of things that have been borrowed from others before us. Culture helps shape the individuals. I think her kids got it right. She is human but she has adopted the black culture... Or at least that woukd be better. She is definwtely doesn't have higher levels of melatonin, though. Personally? This is weird... But as a Puerto Rican? We're in this odd spot. Our genes and culture are so thoroughly mixed that we are a bit of everything and so it is easier for us to welcome anyone into our culture. People ofna varied skin color and ancestry can becalled Puerto Ricans and that mixed collective suffered the same things. To us when someone wants to adopt our culture, it is kind of a new family member as well as someone to celebrate our long Christmases with XD

    Okay so people aren't getting this. You can't identify as a race that you aren't. Race isn't about identity it's literally about who you are, it's not something you can change or should want to change. She can still be part of the black community and be white! I'm sorry but this whole "transracial" thing is stupid. It perpetuates the belief that you have to "act" a certain way to be part of a race. No, you don't have to be born in a tipi, have hunted for food, have lived in Africa, or have your hair all teased up like that to be black. Dude, I was born at Stanford hospital in Palo Alto, California, not some tribe in Africa. People also don't understand that this "transracial" only applies to people who aren't of color. Do any of you really think I could walk into a place being black and be like "Oh, but I identify as asian!" When I get pulled over by police could I just roll down the window and be like "Oh, but I identify as white officer!" She really had the nerve to say she's afraid to go to some places because of the all white crowd. YOU ARE WHITE RACHEL!!! Until your recent ancestors were enslaved because of the color of their skin, until you're afraid to go to some parts of the country because you fear racial retaliation, ACTUAL racial retaliation (yeah as a black guy, I'm still afraid to go to some parts of the deep south), until you get called the n-word by random people, until you get stereotyped, until you are actually black, you are not African-American. Stop with this nonsense.

  • @FacesProductions1

    RaitoYagami88 Gender describes how you identify yourself. Sex is biology, gender is what you mentally are. Race isn't describing how you identify yourself. Whether or not you say you're black, white, asian, latino, native american, or whatever you are that.

  • @mpfmax0

    @mpfmax0

    Faces Productions a professional athlete is defined by his high level of skill in athleticism, physical training is inherent to the condition of being an athlete. Being harassed by racist people is not a inherent trait of being black that's why it does not define the condition of being black. I still don't see your logic. Plus she could suffer this harassment without even having the genotype of black person , just artificially modifying her phenotype like she has done already to look black can easily get her racist slurs thrown at her in the right conditions , race is about common ancestry , not about what slurs people throw at you.
