Awesome! Been a while since I've watched hydroplane races. Forgot how much I love it. I remember when I was a kid cheering for Atlas Van Lines on Lake Washington. Wow, brings back so many fond memories.

I grew up two blocks from this course. We swam here every day in the summer. Nothing compares to the excitement in the days of the Atomic Cup...the V-12 WWII Allison and Merlin surplus motors that powered the boats, at that time. They didn't call them the Thunder Boats for nothing. They literally shook the ground for a couple of miles.

We had a non r/c version. just lite it, drop it in the water and let it go until either it crashed or ran out of gas!

Do not forget the Allison's, Rolls Royce Griffin of Ms Budweiser, Atlas Van Lines,The Squire Shop, and Ms Madison.w/ her Turbo Charged Allison.just to name a few.Those were the Best of the Racing to hear those Piston Engines running.

Caroline 2017 same here, loved watching these races in Clear Lake Tx. from the boom line on the water. I recall also seeing oh! Boy Oberon and miss Madison. I live in Wisconsin now, no races here.

Shane has been racing these boats long enough to know that that move would wash down the U-11 he is just so arrogant that he thinks people should just move over to let him in.

I wouldn't call them Thunder boats anymore. Since they went to turbines I'd call them Whine boats.

Jimmy Shane. An outstanding pilot, but that squeeze and bump took out the 11. Poor form JS!!

Surprised none of the broadcast team saw such a flagrant foul by the U1. Not only DQ'd but lost 300 points. Never saw that before. Probably well deserved.

Miss Budweiser has been out of the race for some years Bernie little passed away back in 2008. The physical boats themselves are still in the water there the formula 1 team I used to know the little team myself my dad Jim Hendrick friends with him

I've never seen this stuff. Wild.

I came across a number of unlimited being towed between events on interstate highways back in the 60's and 70's, found myself being distracted from my intended route several times. Loved the chance to do studies of the hull shapes. Biggest class we had locally was H class but interest died several decades ago. Miss them.

Thankful Life 190-200 mph on the straightaways and around 130-140 mph in the corners

The jet engine rotates a shaft that turns a prop.

At 4:17 on this video the U-1 Team radio came on and they said something about "Someone needs to get on him about that"< I wonder what "THAT" is and who were they talking about, wondering if they were talking about something they think Andrew did or was it like at the end of the race they came back on and complained and said" Andrew was like under 80mph like 10 time or somthing.

No, the canard wing at the front is controlled by the driver with a foot pedal in the cockpit.

Owner Bernie Little died in 2004. His brother inherited all the stuff and has absolutely no interest in boat racing.

Obviously NOT. He was fined $500 and lost 300 series points. besides being disqualified and got 000 points for this race. Pretty serious offense.

What are the rules in this motorsport?

Miss Bud was the best but it cost a fortune to maintain this she is no more.

so obvious, total washout by u-1 lane incursion.

Time to get rid once and for all with the Turbine engines!! They are remaking the V-12 again !!! I do not know of anyone that would not want these turbo V-12’s back in the hulls.

I watched Unlimiteds on Lake Eldorado Ks. and Lake of the Ozarks Mo. back in the 80's. The only turbines, to the best of my recollection , were Atlas Van lines, and Circus Circus. The latter broke a skid fin in a corner on Eldorado and was sliding across the lake sideways at close to hundred mph. Miss Budweiser would shake your bones as she roared by.

You cannot match the power to weight ratio, or the greater economy of the turbines compared to Recips at high power settings. I've built them both. And boats. The heavier engine needs heavier structure in the hull stringers. The hull needs an extra layer to support the added weight. Now you sit lower in the water, launch slower, and suffer significant vibrations from the engine, but the ride may be a bit smoother. And the Allisons were supercharged.

They do in the smaller GP and 5 Liter boats. One of these boats would be too big and too heavy, to be fast.

Can the commentators not see the live feed? I rarely watch this stuff and it was glaringly obvious that cutting directly in front of someone and shutting down their jet is a nono.

This is a post-production edit of the race. Commentators were calling the race live and the audio was used later with added camera angles.

I like more split shaft engine than I.C.E.
