RACAL PRM4720A military transceiver

Ойын-сауық

This Racal handheld covers the low VHF segment from 30 to 88Mhz. It has 10 channels that can be programed using the handset and the decade switch on the set.
Power output is 1W and the channel spacing is 25KHz although it can be changed to 12.5KHz with a simple modification on the main PCB.
It needs 10V to be fully operational. In this video I show you how I make a LiFePO4 battery with 3 cells and a BMS.

Hola from Greece, I had lots of fun with this HT as a HAM in the Greek armed forces, on the military side - it had very good receiver, outstanding audio, lots of TX time for the batteries of the time and it never got hot - I almost exclusively used it in whisper mode. it was amazing with a simple wire dipole..........oh how much I would love to have one now and set it up in portable digital modes!

Very nicely done. I’d use thicker wires though. Maybe 18AWG or there abouts. The balance wires are fine as they are. I remember playing with these when I was in the cadets. Just got hold of an IC-7200 so I won’t ask where I can get some of these. But feel free to share 😂

I don’t think it was this one we had in the cadets come to think of it. It had 3 flat thumb wheels on the side I think. Such a long time ago.

Do you like your 7200? I own one. Solid gear. It has a particular AGC… hiccup you know

@@Radiogenes Still waiting on it to arrive. It was the solid construction that pushed the FT-897 out of the way. The FT-897 is a high maintenance gold digger of a rig anyway. Still want an FT-891 though... I have yet to work out how to get the 7200 in the shack unnoticed. 😅 What experience can you share on the AGC? My understanding is that it has DSP in the loop with the idea being to reject strong signals by preventing weak signals getting swamped (overwhelmed) or silenced by the AGC working to quieten the adjacent strong signal.

PLA has replicated this type called as tbr115, and used from 90s to 10s, almost 2015.
