My 20yr old LC30 MK1 has been a solid workhorse, thrown around in the back of vans all over the place since I bought it. It's basically a JCM800 preamp into an AC30 power stage long before the "boutique" builders started doing the same. Laney deserve a lot more respect than they get.

Bought my VC15 from Andertons. Great little amp. I don’t think they’ve ever featured a Laney on sounds like except that in the Iommi one.

  • @Terrible_Peril

It’s been bugging me for a long time how they don’t seem to get a ton of press or reviews. Guitar amps from Laney you hear about here and there, often with praise when it comes to their more “professional” amps, and generally people think the cheap little practice amps with the Laney badge are, well, cheap. Some items considered rather bad. But man, those nexus bass amps. The feature set is IMMENSE and the sounds are great from what I can tell, but there’s so few reviews from users and they’re very rarely on the used market. Maybe because, like many Laney products, they don’t get much recognition and then eventually people tune in and used prices skyrocket. The nexus bass 112 combo is currently on my short list for amp purchases, replacing several similarly sized options (Mesa walkabout, pjb bg400 for example) in the category I see it as fitting in for me. The usb output and i/o in general puts the Laney up a good couple notches. All of the amps I mentioned can move loads of air, to the point that they’re all pretty much overkill for me, but can stand up in a moderate band setting.

  • @Terrible_Peril

I should point out, however, that a good number of the videos that come up when you search “Laney” are Andertons videos, and they have done several in the past year. My point is more about user reviews. “Laney players: tight lipped”

About 20 years ago, German magazine Gitarre & Bass had an article about some silver Anniversary combo by Laney, and I SO wanted one. I got to play another Laney at a local music shop, and it sounded just as awesome as I had hoped, but alas, I didn't have enough money, and when I finally did a few years later, I had long since stopped playing in the band we had during school, and had no access to a rehearsal room to play a loud amp at decent level anymore. But those Cubs, now… they sound amazing! At bedroom levels! I might be tempted…

Seems like Lee should use Laney more for demos rather than katana and victory or bassbreaker

I wish when playing in "bedroom mode" someone could talk over the playing so as to give an idea of the level, as there is no way of knowing how loud it is and most "bedroom level" settings would have my neighbors phoning the council to complain. Even a decibel meter in shot would be helpful. Edit ps. And to say "theres plenty there" is totally missing the point of a bedroom level setting!

1 watt still makes for about 98Db - 101Db depending on the speaker. But trust me 1 watt can still be plenty loud

The attenuator on this doesn't take the volume down to bedroom levels, it's designed to allow you to crank the volume to get power amp distortion at a manageable volume. With my cub 12 I use an external attenuator (a Bugera power soak) to get a good sound at lower decibel levels.

I had a Laney VC-30 for years as my main amp. Boutique amps came and went, Fenders came and went, but the Laney stayed. I still wish I would’ve kept that amp! I love Laney products. For my money, more versatile and better values than Marshall.

Forgive me for being awkward but, you said all these other amps came and went then the laney stayed, but it sounds like you don't have the laney anymore?
