At this point I wholeheartedly pay my respect to the canadians; if everybody, including batman and his stepmoms retardet Chihuahua, is trying to shit on you "for the lulz", there is only so much you can do. Then, on top of that, a bunch of people were trolling and trying to mess up the flag, so we had a tough time. Interestingly, we pulled it together at the end with an alliance with Touhou.

For most of this animation we had actually moved somewhere else on the canvas before getting griefed by a streamer and decided to move back to this original spot around when the provincial flags show up

Honestly one of the most impressive parts of this is just maintaining the right frame rate and timing it to the timelapse

For anyone wondering, Italy had no beef with Peru. The reason why our flag kept getting griefed and turned into the Peru flag is because of a streamer from Peru that kept targeting us. Thanks to some friendly communities we were able to retake that flag, but the streamer continuos attacks left us no time to decorate it. We even had Jojo characters at 1:51 thanks to the Jojo community, but they got erased. Hope that for the next year Reddit adopts some kind of countermeasures for this streamers, something like a karma requirement

I was in team algeria when this happened but i took time to see and it was amazing to see it unfold

It had been created pixel by pixel, every frame made with pure dedication and enthusiasm. The awesomeness of the Touhou community is impeccable. An entire video of over 3 minutes recreated on r/place, things couldn't possibly be more worthy deserving praise. I'm just surprised at this, quite the shame I'm late, but amazed nevertheless. Also thanks to all the other fandoms who helped out.

As a Canadian, the beaver putting his paws up in triumph for the completion of the Canadian flag is the cutest thing.

This has got to be the most impressive thing on r/place by far. Maintaining a static image is hard enough, especially when it comes to defending something anime related, since it often gets targeted by trolls, they managed to defend every frame of this animation without it being overtaken. Not only that, but each frame of the animation transitioned basically flawlessly. The most impressive thing is that this is mostly users, not some bot script basically printing a photo-realistic image over some small community's artwork or a hoard of streamer fans plastering logos and greifing people.

We were allied with osu and hatsune miku though, they helped with the animation and when osu got attacked at one point we helped them. We might've helped canada at the end though idk

This downright impressive. You even managed to keep the timing really well.

My favorite few seconds here are 2:01 to 2:05. First, Reisen shooting through Canada is just brilliant. Then we completely destroyed an attempted raid by a streamer, and immediately formed a perfect maple leaf for the animation, right after the raid, while Canada is still struggling. Pure poetry in those few seconds there.

That's so beautiful I'm nearly tearing up seeing all the details like the stars or the bullet of the pistol going out of the frame! With the music and the ref it's so good So great, glad I was able to help when there was that green raid, and glad it was short enough to be unnoticed. I really love all the collaboration built around this animation and the community building it is amazing!

the amount of coordination to make a picture in r/place is insane let alone an entire animation

This is wildly impressive but I also have to mention how much I loved how when the girl with rabbit ears shot, the bullet went out of the boarder before fading out

I'm not a member of the Touhou fandom but i have huge respect for it. Knowing the story behind the creation of Bad Apple (which is impressive enough), to see the community paying tribute to it in the most creative ways will always warm my heart. Among all the flag chaos, Bad Apple stands out for how honest it is!

@@SheckoVex If you are ever interested in Touhou music, you should definitely check out the games official sound tracks. I would recommend with Touhou 6 EoSD, Touhou 7 PCB, Touhou 8 IN, Touhou 10 MoF, Touhou 11 SA (I think it one of the strongest all around), Touhou 12 UFO, Touhou 14 DDC, Touhou 15 LoLK, Touhou 17 WBaWC (This track sounds much more "modern" with heavier usage of electric guitars while older games use more "traditional" instruments..?) If you dont have time, here is one track I think is nice and fun to get started with (people always like to hop to the boss music, but I think the more stage oriented tracks are just as strong): kzread.info/dash/bejne/oZqpsrOCgNLanpM.html&ab_channel=Louchan2 The track I recommended is from Touhou 12 Unidentified Fantastic Object Stage 4. Just a heads up, almost all touhou music from the games are great, but stage 4 and stage 5 themes are usually the strongest (the further you get into the game, usually the better). I come from UGA(United Gacha Alliance), they really tried their best to help spinning yin-yang when they hear Touhou might need help for it.

At 2:02 I love how the bullet goes outside of the canvas and hits everything in a straight line

the dedication and perfection is beyond WILD

I guess everyone just agrees that Bad Apple is a thing that needs to be let complete, regardless of whether it's considered weeb or whatever. Poor Canada was fighting a whole ass siege trying to defend their position. I also love how there's Purple Guy within the herd of ponies.

The Touhou fans were apparently aided by technology (such as where to put a pixel and what time to) but from what I've heard, Canada people were some humans, some bots. They still can't make a maple leaf.

I think it's because of the fact this was essentially in a weird way constantly self sabotaging that no one really tried to mess it up. It takes a lot of dedication to animate constantly

wtf, amazing how a whole community managed to create a 3 ish minute video frame by frame accurately, and without having anyone completely ruin it is actually pretty incredible. This feat alone makes me want to play Touhou.

But One piece(whose artwork was in the attack range) and the void with probably a lot of other people managed to fight if of. You can see the battle in timelapses towards the end down right.

​@@bhq3860It was in fact, not bots! Several different communities, mainly Touhou, Osu, and Vocaloid, helped to animate, and other communities lended their hands in hard areas as well. I placed for it a good bit for Touhou's community, and at least 50-100 people were in our discord vcs at all times during the animation. We're strictly against bots, and if they did play any part, it would be a tiny fraction compared to all the real people who helped. Long live Bad Apple!!

I was wondering if someone was attempting to make a frame by frame scene like this when I saw it on the canvas since day 1. Glad I found this video

This has been one of the best projects to be apart of, so many people came together for this, including people who don't even know much about Touhou (like myself), the fact that we barley got attacked was also a huge miracle as well, big props to everyone who has contributed to this even if it was only one pixel, we all are winners

Place was kind of underwhelming if im to be honest, last year was way better, it just got stale now that they do it every year

I'm really glad to play a small part in the making of this bad apple. The highlight part of me is during the making of Nitori's splash, we managed to break the bots that's attempting to clone the Bad Apple build a few blocks near us. That part was hilarious.🤣 Huge props and MVP awards to the touhou r/place discord coordinators and the Osu community playing a big part in making this happen !! 🥰✊💥

This unassuming, weird, black-and-white square sucked me into the Touhou rabbit hole and now I can't get out. Good job I guess. I had never heard of Touhou before, and now I know almost every character and my Spotify went from almost all prog rock to almost all OSTs and IOSYS and Shinra-Bansho remixes.
