r/Maliciouscompliance Paul Blart VS Clever Lawyer

r/Maliciouscompliance In today's episode, an idiotic security guard goes a complete power trip and tries to force a driver to obey his commands. The driver ignores him, which leads to a funny interaction between the guard, the driver, and the high-powered lawyers that the driver came to see. The lawyers aren't willing to indulge in the security guard's power trip, so they execute some clever malicious compliance!

Really, he should have been able to park in the guest space, especially when he had the firm's approval. Also, Sam was an idiot for fighting with his boss's clients, especially a law firm, since Bob could have complained to the building manager, who probably would have sided with a (presumably) high-paying tenant over a security guard, especially since Sam was likely in the wrong (and Bob could likely have worded his complaint very persuasively given that's literally what he does for a living). I obviously don't know how vindictive Bob is, but Sam was gambling a lot on Bob's good nature.

In Jr. High School, I actually' damaged an American History book. It wasn't intentional, it just got water damage, but it was deemed to be unusable by the school and I was told I'd have to pay for it. I went in on Tuesday morning with the $15.00 to pay for it but said, "If I pay for this book, then it is mine and I get to keep it." The principal said it didn't work like that. "If I have to pay for it, then, once it is paid for, it is my property." The principal refused and said if I didn't pay for it, they would call my parents. "You're not dialing yet? What are you waiting for?" Both my parents came it, kind of unusual as usually only my mother came in. My dad asked what was going on and when the principal told him, he said, "Then what are we doing here? If she damaged the book she pays for it. And you quit your claim on the book since you will have the money to purchase a new one." When the principal told him school policy was to charge the student and keep the book, my dad said, "Oh, so you are trying to steal from her? Not from my daughter you're not. Now accept her payment and hand over the book or keep the book and get nothing. Doesn't matter to me either way. But there is no chance you're going to get the money and keep the book. Decide." They took the money and handed me the book. I loved that book. By the time I lost it I could recite passages from memory.

I remember my own books got water damaged because I walked to and from school and it had been especially rainy, I had to empty my backpack and let everything dry for a day, and all my textbooks had ended up wavy and swollen. Also, a couple years later I received textbooks with pages falling out because the spine was so damaged. And it wasn't even a ghetto school, just the public school system.

My school somehow lost a book after they changed my high school classes which had to be changed due to them being stupid about special ed students who do good in school because they aren't challenged beyond their abilities. After the classes changed I dropped off the book on the teacher's desk in my former class. Figured that the teacher would see it when he came in to the room but end of the year comes and I get a notice about it because somehow they lost it. I watched that smirk drop right off her face when I pulled out that receipt she gave me. "After witnessing the strength of Mrs. Weary's insistence contrasted with this irrefutable evidence that she, herself, took receipt of the book in question it would seem to any rational observer that there was malicious intent present in this allegation. Such blatant discrimination against a student is behaviour most unbefitting of an educator, wouldn't you agree, head? I think this is most certainly grounds for a formal complaint, additionally, I would propose that Mrs. Weary herself cover the cost of this book she appears to have mislaid, the cost of which she has clearly attempted to foist onto me, before she manages to pin it on another unwitting student."

As for sharing a detention story, The teacher managing detentions was my Latin teacher. There was a rule in the syllabus that damage of school property resulted in 2 wks detention. I got a box of 50 pencils for the classroom donation bin at the beginning of the school year. Any supplies given would be gifts to the school for classes and thus be considered school property. So I’d ask her for a pencil then break it in front of her and ask for my detention slip. It was bliss. I could choose between sitting in class and reading or running errand for the school (ie: run papers for teachers, aid librarians, clean gym equipment etc.) I often chose the classroom. After like the third month in detention, my teacher asked me why I kept getting in trouble on purpose. After I explained to her it was to avoid my bullies who would beat up on me at lunch and after school while waiting for the bus, she got really concerned and ended up taking it to the principal. Some go in trouble while others called in their parents to fight for them. They got off Scott free. It only made things worse for me because they would tell their posse I was a narc and then spread rumours about me. By senior year, I had been deemed a slut, a druggie, a literal prostitue, having multiple affairs with teachers and staff, been a teen mom and other stuff. High school was pretty shitty for me. I just kept up with the detention plan to get some peace and quiet to myself. And I learned that school staff doesn’t understand how bullying works nor how to deal with it. Fight your own battles or don’t bother with asking for help.

I ended up becoming such close friends with the librarian that one day she saw me trying to read in a quiet(er) corner of the cafeteria and asked if I wanted to eat lunch in the library. I ate lunch and read in the library every day after that. Apparently a few people found out that I was spending lunch in the library instead of in that awful, overcrowded cafeteria and occasionally some would come by wanting to eat in there, but as far as I know no one else was ever allowed to because the librarian didn't trust them to not get food on the books. As a librarian, I can tell you that the lost book story here happens more often than you would think, to the point that many of us assume about a 50/50 chance that the library is at fault. When reported a missing book, we usually immediately scour our shelves. If we don’t find it, we renew the book (so more fines don’t stack up) and tell the patron to look one more time at home or in the car before we declare it lost (at their fault). 95% of the time the situation is resolved by one of those two searches.

A whole week of no classes, just sitting in a room all day with like 4 others. We were supposed to be doing homework or what have you but I did all that the first day and not being in class, had no other homework assigned so I read something like 5 novels that week.

At my university, when the self-check kiosk was out of order for book return, I had a reputation for being a demanding asshole among the desk staff. My demand was that they check my books into the system while I was still present, before placing them in the bin for shelving. The first few times, when they insisted that it was fine for me to put the books in the bin, I told them the reason I would not. Years earlier, I had taken a computer maintenance manual out of the municipal library. I had subsequently returned it before the due date by placing in the return slot. Three months later, I received a invoice for what was supposedly the full price of the book. I went to the branch nearest to my home, which wasn't the one I had returned it to, and they argued with me, scolded me for my irresponsibility, and ultimately threatened to send the charge to collections. My response was to go down to the branch that I had returned it at, talk to the desk staff about my hunch that it simply did not get checked into the system before it was shelved (it was the only logical possibility), and asked them to follow me to where it was meant to be shelved. After some grumbling, this librarian follows me to the upper floor, over to a shelf, and lo, there it is! I grab it from the shelf, and ask her to see if it shows in the system that it was still checked out. It was. There was no apology, but I'd learned my lesson. I do not trust librarians to do this part of their job without supervision. This is not because I think all librarians are incompetent, but because I would bear the cost and consequences of their mistake, and I've been burned before.

Besides the malicious compliance, my grandfather's name is Robert, his younger brother is named Richard, and his next younger brother is named Harry. Their names are literally Bob, Dick, and Harry, in that order. To add the cherry on top, Harry was a lawyer in Kentucky. I like to think he would have helped a delivery driver out with some malicious compliance. If anyone is curious as to the validity of this, I can link to his obituary which has all the names of his brothers.

I can relate to the Book Story wholeheartedly. I live in a heartland state that is bipolar as the day is long. It was a cold snowy day in January when I was told by my mom that we may be in for an ice storm that night. So like anybody would do, we dropped off my library books in the outdoor drop bins and went home. That night a snow storm did hit and we were stuck inside for 3 days, school was cancelled for 2. About 2 weeks later I get a letter from the library about how I owed over $25 for late fees ($25 was a lot when you're a kid with now money). My mom was livid and went to talk to them. She said that we had dropped off the books right before the storm and shouldn't be charged. They said, "How are we suppose to know that you didn't just drop them off anytime." And that was that. Lord forbid they check one of their 4 cameras or their employees do their jobs. (We dropped them off long before closing). So my mom had to pay the fine..... but after that everytime I dropped off books I recorded it with the time, date and with someone else with me. Just in case they try to screw me over again. P.s. At that time $25 was the cut-off, that you couldn't take out anymore books. Now you can't even have $.25

So, I was kinda like OP in the book story. Back in Middle school, I'd take out five books, (Because I was in battle of the books I could get 2 more than others) and read when and return. One day, I *RETURNED* a book, and about 3 days after I did, they said they couldn't find it. I looked to the shelves because I told them I returned it when I came in earlier that week. I *Found* the book, but they said there /was/ two of them and they couldn't tell. They didn't charge me because it *did* have the return-by date I had on there, and they just ordered a new one. So, a kid got to keep the book they stole (Or they returned it later and that's why I didn't have to pay *shrug*) and I got off scot free. I do have an amazing relationship with the librarians though, I /did/ know them for 3 years.

Until one day I couldn’t. Months went by and the head was cranking up on me, until a kid who was notorious for stealing the books was forced to return all stolen school assets as he was leaving the school. Pos took my book when it was on the check in cart and walked off with it. This has even happened at my public library with me finding my “lost” book on the shelves 😂

Only time I was ever in detention was when I was late to school. They had this backwards weird system where after a certain amount of tardies to school, you would get lunch detention, and much more resulted in suspension (if you didn't show up, it didn't count as a tardy and wasn't a strike). The normal reason for me being late was weather or my mom running late. Funny thing was, I didn't really care I had lunch detention. It was calm and quiet (just like OP in the video). What was even kinda funny was the teacher in charge of detention got kinda mad at me because I didn't suffer when I was there, wondering what was wrong with me when I sat down to eat and read a book without sulking like some of the other students.

When I was in second or third grade, I remember I had read a nonfiction picture book on cows. It was called cows. And I remembered I had turned it into the drop box in the library, which was just a basket that anyone could reach into, and got a new book and moved on with life. Well sometime after, I got a notice that the book was never returned. I told my teacher and resource teacher that I returned it, that I know I did. They still had me check my desk and and my tote in the resource room, but it wasn't in there, which I knew it wasn't. I don't know whatever happened after that. I really don't remember. Maybe they found it, maybe my mom paid for it, maybe they just dropped it. I don't know. But what I think might of happened was that another kid saw the book in the basket and decided that they wanted to read that book and took it. As I remember, there wasn't always a teacher in there and you signed the book out yourself, so there was a chance that no one would of been there to stop the kid if that were the case.

I was a librarian at a middle school. I worked with students and never once turned anyone in for detention. If they swore they returned a book, I let them have free reign of the library to find it. If they couldn’t find it they could find a replacement on their own because it was usually cheaper. It’s more work for the librarians to enter all the MARC record data and process the book, but they’re just kids and it’s my job. I LIKE doing MARC records because I’m a nerd! If they couldn’t afford it, I’d have them help me to “work off” the costs of the book but they loved it so it wasn’t a big deal. They could also donate some of their old books to cover costs - I’d work with them because they’re kids and it’s a great opportunity for a learning lesson. Unless it was an incredibly popular book, I never really kept on them about it. I took it as an opportunity to teach the importance of keeping track of library books since they aren’t your property. I never once sent a kid to detention over something so stupid. I did have kids come to eat lunch with me in the library though, because they won the opportunity from their great attitudes and helpful behavior! Lol My district fired all the librarians and hired paras because they’re cheaper. No library experience or degree needed. Not even a college degree, let alone the masters required to call yourself a librarian. I miss my kiddos and they begged me the entire time they were still at school - even high school to come back, but I couldn’t because as a librarian, I was overqualified as per the district, to be a librarian. US education right there.

So I asked the teacher if I could work on that on the computers while I was there, he gave me the green light as long as I was careful not to spill milk on the keyboard or something. I similarly preferred the quiet to the chaos of the cafeteria, and I realized being able to take that time to do homework so I had less to do at home was awesome; so after that I just started asking teachers if I could spend lunch with them to work on stuff. (As an aside, I had a 504 plan for ADHD and one of the accomodations was "Student will take every available opportunity to complete work in class. (Medication issue)" since the meds I was on at the time tended to wear off by the time I got home, which was another reason why I decided to keep this up.) Fortunately, enough teachers were cool with this that I didn't have to intentionally keep getting into trouble.

That's just people clicking the [Like] button as they start watching the vid. I don't think a 'View' gets added to the score until a certain amount of the video has played.

I think you're probably right because I always like these videos first because they are always good. Sometimes I can't finish it right then though so I may not count as a view until later even though I already watched the video. And I've seen a lot of comments from people saying they do that as well.

@@quicksilverlacey On certain channels, I always click on the Thumb's Up straight away - just as the video is starting. I already *_know_* I'm going to enjoy it, and even if I might not dig it as much as others, I want to be sure that my favoured channels get the little bit of support I'm able to provide. I also want to be sure I don't forget, or that the Autoplay doesn't skip onto the next one before I remember to pay attention and add my endorsement. Like you, I've also seen and heard a bunch of other users saying they do the same thing. I'm just guessing of course - I could be completely wrong, but when I see 80 likes and 30 views, I assume that the extra fifty are still in the middle of watching.

I used to be a very troubled kid and I LOVED going to ISS (In School Suspension) and Lunch Detention. I talked with the teacher, read good books, got to use my phone when I finished my work, and best of all was the absolute silence. It's not the reason why I kept getting into trouble but I never really cared about the "Punishment".
