Except idiot Karen didn't have ANY interaction with her workers that would have let her know Jen was in a bad place, although it being an accident doesn't excuse Karen's incompetence. The human element in a business is as important than any other, because you're not getting anything done, or making any money, without workers. An absolutely craptastic manager, easily rivaling the worst manager I've ever had. I'm so glad Jen and OP got a happy ending, they deserve it.

To be fair, customer is complaining about a fast-food restaurant taking a super long time for her meal with an employee and then employee throws milkshake in customer's face and then stormed off. Was it wrong to complain? Yes. Was it worse to throw the milkshake? Yes. Was it valid to complain? Absolutely.

That story with Jen and the Karen ended in one of the best ways possible! I’m so glad the two are happy!

I can see the store managers logic when they said Jen couldn't have her job back. As justified as it was, it was still assault but I'm glad it worked out!

The problem I have with their logic is that it wasn’t entirely Jen’s fault. She was put in a position where she was overworked and being harassed. It’s not out of the question that if I was in the same situation, I’d snap too. That woman who got a milkshake shower wasn’t making things better. She still could’ve been cordial and civil. My family and I too have experienced bad service at restaurants. But we don’t yell at the servers and call them names. we put on a smile and go about our day after we are served. She was verbally abusing an employee so it was no wonder that same employee said “frick it” and threw a milkshake in her face. That manager definitely didn’t do a good job and just wanted to be lazy. She found out the hard way that being a manager comes with many responsibilities and if she doesn’t do certain things it will all blow up in her face. So really the manager is the one that caused that whole situation.

If the customer was being horrible then the customer is behaving poorly, Jen throwing the milkshake is Jen behaving poorly. It doesn't matter how bad a day you're having it doesn't excuse throwing a beverage at someone. Talk back? Fair, though perhaps unwise. Escalate to physicality? You're the bad guy now.

Yes her actions were unacceptable, but you also have to take into account everything she was going through. She was overworked and being harassed. Just like all of us there’s only so much a person can take before they snap. Not to mention that customer didn’t handle things very well either. She was being verbally abusive and rude. I understand she had been waiting awhile for her food. But that’s no excuse to basically bully someone. My family and I have had bad restaurant service before but we didnt lose our tempers. We were still civil and cordial and went about our day. Not to mention the bitch manager put her in that position in the first place just so she could be lazy. So you can’t blame it all on Jen. Yes her actions were unacceptable but neither were the customers or the manager’s.

Yeah, early and late shift CFA is wild. The managers don't expect it to be busy, so they only ever bother to schedule two employees for all of front-of-house (drive-thru ordering, window, drive-thru drinks, desserts/shakes, walk-in cashier, and bagger for walk-in and drive-thru). With only two bodies doing all of that, any rush at all would easily fuck you over. At least, that was how it was at the location I worked at.

The subway at my walmart has a horrible turn over rate, it is so common to see a highschool or college kid working by themselves during dinner hours. I always keep a couple ones in my purse to tip them with because that sh-ts awful.

The best thing you can do is be patient and polite to those workers. If you're feeling especially generous, make a compliment to their supervisor or the online surveys every place gives out. People generally only do that for really bad or really good service, so it stands out.

My brother works at a McDonald’s that only has three people working on a daily basis. From what I’ve heard, it’s awful. People quit without telling people, people are constantly staying late because of no shows, moral is low. And people do literally 2/3 jobs at a time.

The Sally holiday pay thing was definitely not about saving the company money. It was purely out of spite, as the story explains (Sally being absent when OP came to interview meant she missed out on the promotion she felt entitled to and Sally didn't like OP as a result)

The entire 'shake' story, I was desperately praying and hoping that OP and Jen got married. You have no idea how satisfied my brain is right now.

I think my jaw just dropped into surprised Pikachu face and then i just started smiling. That was a beautiful ending to such a Karen story. Loved it.

As a past jack in the box worker, I can almost 100% tell you that the fast food job they are talking about is a jack in the box. The absolute worst place to work. They work their employees to the bone, don't follow any rules, push you, scream at you, and belittle you infront of employees. It's awful.

"If you're wondering how Jen turned out, I married her!" Salute the man, boys! That is king shit right there!

On the management story. The store manager really should’ve asked why she threw the milkshake. I get that it was unprofessional but with the way things were going. I probably would’ve cried a lot sooner and been mad. Honestly I’m surprised she stayed that long. Are there any employment laws in which the manager has to work, or needs to have a full shift? Or if people are struggling on shift the manager needs to help? Because I feel like they all need to be compensated. Karen should be sued for the entire thing. But I know that’s never going to happen. Then you could also say that they could get in trouble for quitting.

I love that he and Jen got married!! Way to go and congrats on the 4 wee ones, I bet you’re both brilliant parents! The Karen who got fired from the Union position is fabulous!! It’s pretty hard to get fired if you’re in a Union, she must have been wretched.

Its hilarious that the store manager legit knew of the about to unfold chaos and then called in the morning to ask "Why is there chaos?" Side note the store manager saying that karen is in control is total Bs shes the store manager not the manager i think she would have higher rank then karen Please tell me if im wrong i dunno much about fast food lol just made a guess in the sidenote

You're right. I worked for a corporate mcD's years ago. The store manager was always there busting his buns along with the rest of us especially with a couple of no shows. Our managers would show up for extra shifts if we were short too. Everyone worked together to make sure everything went as smoothly as possible. Frankly, partly because corporate gives out bonuses for quick times, or at least they did back then. I can not agree with a store manager brushing off both a long term good employee and the day manager when they're telling you there's an emergency. I would take their word for it, and find out what's going on before it gets to the point it got to.

I mean, if I were store manager and heard Karen had decided to make her own job easier at the store's expense, I would not be happy. But that's me. OTOH they probably didn't want to come all the way down there at night to either make Karen work or take over themselves.

It's not often that I tear up and have to stop my ice hear from melting but damn.. that was something.. I sometimes make jokes about "still better love story than Twilight" but that shit was a trillion times better.. I kind of want that for myself.. That was epic! I'm rooting for the Jens family the whole way now.

Is it me or does anyone else feel like that company after that incident that all the employees told that manager that if Jin isn’t getting her job back then they ain’t going back and the restaurant had to close until new hires?

Technically yes but we dont know what was negotiated with them before or if they even cared about the situation or just wanted to kick Karen's balls for being a Karen. Solidarity is nice but regret can be a hell of a thing.

Also technically jens actions could be counted as assault - no company will wave that flag proudly. So it would be more convinient to close the store for a few days. Money cant buy reputation.

​@@billklatsch5058 true on that hole situation Jens action could be better on it but am glad people stud up for her even though she assaulted a costumer. although the hole situation could have been avoided if the manager would do her job and not watch tv on the job as well as she could be calm enough to handle the situation better but that restaurant should've fired that manager instead of letting her resign from the company. though and wouldn't be surprised if that Karren doesn't get a job as a manager in the future. I wouldn't hire that type of person or be tough to get one. doesn't matter how high on the totem pole you are take reasonability for your action

God... It's so weird. Like, I am a miserable piece of shit, and I have no fucking idea when it comes to relationships and love and all that. Yet, hearing that the OP not only stood up for Jen, but also married her and has a wonderful, happy family together makes me feel so happy. Like, sometimes, life is not as bad as it seems, you know? I hope their future will be filled with more happy moments

The Karen manager just proves why so many fast-food places have such low morale amongst the workers.

I feel like the HR lady was actually not paying out holiday pay either because of favoritism or out of prejudice. Probably the kind of person who expects college student to be gullible and desperate enough to go through with her plot, which actually would've saved the business money. Typical greedy corporate pencil-pusher who does anything to cut corners in order to make more for themselves.

As soon as Jen said "That was the first time anyone ever stood up for me..." I was like: "They better get together." Never been happier to have called it.
