Fun fact, the tree was the Australian Gympie Gympie tree. It has silicon, glass, needles that are coated in its toxin. Gympie Gympie is an old Australian slang word for F**k. So the tree is so dangerous it’s simply named 2 F-bombs back to back.

The gympie gympie is no joke. My friend’s dad got stung when he went to Australia during vacation. He described the pain as someone pressing a red hot bar of steel against your arm then pouring hot water over the wound while stabbing it with a nail. And that pain lasted for 2 months. Truly terrifying stuff.

As an ecologist that works in the North Queensland rainforests, quite often I come across Gympie Gympie and it is the only thing in the rainforest that actually always has me on edge. Unfortunately, 1 day while trying to find some Leaf-tailed Geckos, I managed to brush my shoulder on one. I can tell you now if I didn't always bring duct tape with me because of that tree, I would still be in pain. The pain lasted a week and if I didn't treat it I would have had to use hydrochloric acid to get rid of the venom, but luckily it went away on its own. Always be careful in Australian rainforests but don't be afraid of them, they are quite beautiful and the plant is actually rarer than you think.

I've never heard it called the Gympie-Gympie plant before, we all just call it the Stinging Tree here (for obvious reasons). When we were doing a guided bush walk, our guide told us that he'd been stung before, and even many years later, when he has a hot shower still gets pain in the area he was stung. Later, a less knowledgable tour guide got a group of high schoolers to sit underneath one and let me tell you, the moment the wind blew and a bunch of leaves went flying toward the group there was screaming as a bunch of teenagers go sprinting through the bush to not get touched by them. Poor kids were just sitting there in complete terror.

The wedding story pretty much happened to me too. My uncle's wedding, my grandmother who looks like the sweet granny who could never do wrong, is trying to be the center of attention. my uncle has no idea how much of a manipulative narcissist she is (even though she did send dozens of abusive emails to my uncle's ex wife which likely led to their divorce, idk how he is still obvious) anyway, the Ceremony goes okay I guess and the reception starts. There are HUNDREDS of people there, because my uncle is a wealthy good ol' boy who invited pretty much everyone from his work. So him and his wife have to greet as many of them as possible. So my grandmother (despite spending all day with the woman) gets pissed when the wife walks past my grandmother as she is trying to talk to five people at once. And my grandmother yells (though it was so loud that only my mother heard it) "that fucking bitch!" And throws herself back down in her seat to pout like a child. Me and my mother spend the rest of the night trying to keep my grandmother from ruining the party by constantly putting herself in between my uncle and his wife. To this day, my uncle is still the only one that insists on inviting her to anything.

I have heard other stories of that plant. Apperantly a horse came in contact with one of those gimpy-gimpy plants and threw itself off the nearest cliff. I also heard that some people stung by it need to get restrained and strapped down so they can't kill themselves. The needles Apperantly can stick in your skin for a long time and easily break off, making them hard to remove. The affected area becomes super sensitive to any form of contact, would it be clothing, heat, cold, water, etc. They need to be surgically removed and then it will take some time until the toxin gets weaker. In other words: It is one of the most australian things on the planet.

I was a kid, and I was SO proud of it, but nothing on the level of what this poor girl experienced! My heart goes out to her. Although I am Santa every year (except this year for obvious reasons) I do have my favorite tee that has Rudolph sitting in a comfy chair in front of a warm fireplace reading his book. The caption reads, "The other reindeer USED to laugh and call him names." With eight reindeer heads stuff and mounted above the fireplace. While not very Halloweeny, I would LOVE to surround that racist b**ch with every single joke tee from Halloween, X-mas, and any other rock band tees, for every single holiday for the rest of her life! Of course as a 6 year old i didn't listen, ran over and grabbed the stems only to be met with a hot wave of sharp pain in my little fingers. She stood by and watched as i got stung by nettles lmao. When I came back crying she said "that's why we don't touch strange plants, next time you should listen to me" of course they weren't dangerous and the pain lasts only for a few hours, but damn was that a good teaching moment. Now I research and look for native plants as a hobby :) (also my grandma laughed after hearing what happened and gave us some calamine lotion. The flowers were originally for her, but she still appreciated the gesture haha)

The bike one.... I remember seeing a video a couple of years ago of a young woman being escorted out of a rock concert. She was saying she was removed for breastfeeding. Turns out, she had an infant, and a two year old, right at the edge of a mosh pit that was getting very active. Not only did she have a small children, and an infant, in a mosh pit at a very loud rock concert, she felt that was the right time to also start breastfeeding her infant. Security immediately removed her, and she tried to record the encounter saying she was being removed for breastfeeding, in which the guard turns to her and says the real reason she was being removed. Now, I’m a woman. But, for some women, the moment they have children, it’s like all common sense seems to go out the window.

Yup, some people want to learn things the hard way rather than listen to reason from people with knowledge. They lose all rights to complain about their injuries to friends, family and doctors when they were warned directly to not to touch something. It's their funeral.

That story about the grandma reminds me of my own g-ma. I'm waiting to get married until after she's dead. I've seen how she's acted during my sibling/cousins' weddings in addition to any other family gatherings and decided I don't want any of that.

So what you’re saying is, you’ve used racial slurs when you were offended by something that had literally nothing to do with you. You caused a scene, embarrassed the people you know that aren’t racist trash, and cried white woman to get someone unjustly arrested because you’re actually satan and can’t handle being given even an iota of what you put out? Cuz that’s what your response sounds like.

Yeah, like I'd believe a racist lady for sure following around a black woman and trying to frame her for stealing, but the slap and the shirt kinda take it over the top. Mostly the slap.

The first story reminded me of when I was in 10th grade i had anatomy and we would get a lot of simple assignments where we would have to color each organ a specific color. There was this dude who sat behind me that was colorblind so we would share a set of colored pencils and every couple of minutes he would ask me to pick out a certain color for him (he was like EXTREMELY color blind)
