lmao my mom legally died when she was 13 and it took the ambulance 20 minutes to get there because someone had stolen the street signs (don't ask, that's another story). My grandma thankfully knew first aid and kept her heart beating somehow. Whenever I tell the story or my mom does someone asks if she made it and it's like "....no, she's obviously dead right now"?

the thing is declaring someone dead is when you see in shows and movies when the doc says "ok i am calling it, time of death 0300" that is declaring someone is dead. So unless they spontaneously came back to life (possible but not probably) they weren't "declared" dead. Now if they flatline you can say they are legally dead but not declared the staff probably still pushed drugs and did cpr to bring them back each time.

My dad has heart problems and he was in the hospital over Christmas with a broken heart valve. His heart stopped for around 2 minutes and he was offical declared dead before being revived by a revibertater. So if your heart or brain stops for any period of time you can be considered dead even if you can be saved for the sake of if you do die, they have an accurate time of death. Edit: don't worry this was a few years ago and he's fine

i have a similar story to the appendix stories... my older brother was staying the night with me and my mum at our house. at around midnight, me and my mum were asleep in the living room and he was meant to be asleep in another room. he came running into the living room, yelling that he was having the worst pains he'd ever had in his chest area, thinking he was having a heart attack and saying he needed to go to the hospital. my mother just looked at him, screamed at him "you dont need the hospital, youll be fine im trying to sleep". it took me yelling at her and him sobbing and clutching his chest for 20 minutes for her to realise something was up and she called the ER number. it took them 3 hours to get him to hospital. it turns out he had cryptosporidium and was hospitalised for about a week and bed ridden for a further 2 weeks. because of it, he had to stop work (he worked at a meat factory which is most likely where he caught it from) and still has issues from it even though it happened nearly 5 years ago

My son said he wasnt feeling good before school i checked him over no temp no sickness etc so i told him go to school if you feel worse tell them and we will come get you, you look tired maybe less time been up all night playing x box and more sleep. He went to school i heard nothing so guessed he was feeling better. That night he came home looking very pale i told him bed ill be up shortly with a drink about a hour later he was shouting he was in pain i took one look at him and though oh no i told him to lie down i gently pressed his right side he hit the roof i called the dr telling him its his appendix and a ambulance wont come unless dr comfirms it. We got straight in the dr said well young man your mum tells me its your appendix but im the dr and like every mum who thinks this she will be wrong let the expert tell you whats up he checked and said actually for the first time in 30 years your mum is right ill call the hospital, he asked how i knew i told him i just did as he was like i was when i had mine out he said wow im impressed even people who have had it dont get it right so i was shocked you were right he said he would call ambulance i told him dont waste a ambulance someone may need it more and it could make the difference between that person surviving or dying plus it will be quicker to take him just make sure they know we are coming he thanked me as he said most would have demanded a ambulance no one thinks of others. We were at the hospital 30 min later, he had it removed the next day as they were not sure as he was still eating 🙄 i told them he would eat on his death bed after surgery he was eating straight away lol but they said yes i was right it was his appendix and i have a strange child as you just dont eat i laughed saying i know i remember the idea of eating was a no go so the fact he was still wanting to eat and complaining when they put him on nill by mouth was just crazy lol He had a full recovery and was discharged the next day. A few weeks later his school photos arrived they were taken that day i didnt know but he looks green in them and really poorly i asked why didnt you come home he said i didnt think i was that bad and could live out 6 hours at school. I have a principal for decision making. “The law of wrong consequences” as I call it. Essentially, if you have to make an assumption based on incomplete information, you assume the option that has the least severe consequences if you’re wrong. For example: your kid says they’re sick. If you assume they’re telling the truth and you’re wrong, then all that happened was a few doctors had some time wasted. But if you assume they’re lying and are wrong, then your kid is sick and isn’t getting treatment they actually need.

Hey, rSlash, here's another appendicitis story: This story happened to me since last Christmas, when I was fifteen. For context, we'd moved down to Australia about a year prior, and had just gotten kicked out of my Conservative grandparents' home. So we had basically nowhere to stay. We were staying in an inn a few suburbs over for the night, before going to find somewhere else to stay, like an Airbnb or something. We had been in our room for a few hours when I randomly got this horrible pain on my right side. I thought nothing of it, thinking that it was just a muscle cramp, funnily enough. But after it persisted on and off for a few hours, I finally told my dad, because something didn't quite seem right about the pain I was experiencing. He agreed with me, but when I asked to go to the doctor, he refused, and that was that for the next three days. That happened on a Sunday. On Wednesday, I was still experiencing the pain, but it had gotten so much worse, it was crippling now. I had been asking my father time and time again to at least just see our GP, because something really felt off, but he refused to let me do even that, stating that I was being "Over dramatic about a small deal." So, on Wednesday, I was still experiencing the crippling pain, and decided to see the school doctor, who immediately called my father, and recommended he take me to the doctor. He finally obliged, and took me to our local GP. Within 15 minutes of me seeing my doctor, I was in a car in my way to the hospital. Turns out I didn't have acute appendicitis, but it was appendicitis nonetheless. Within the same day of me getting to the hospital, I had surgery, and my appendix was removed. My father didn't exactly apologise for what happened, but at least my appendix didn't burst.

House call, maybe. Or she knew a midwife who performed the surgery at her place. I wouldn't be surprised if that was the case, I was born the same way. My mother was scheduled to arrive at X hospital so they could get her ready in time for childbirth. Because my dad was called in to work due to someone calling in sick (I later learned that the dude was fired because he called sick so he could go drinking with friends), my mom told him to go and called my grandmother and great aunt to help her get to the hospital, they agreed, so my dad went to work. Time to go came, and the hags were nowhere to be seen. My mom waited 3 hours because she couldn't move on her own. When her water broke, she(and I quote) screamed to the high heavens that I'd be the last member of my father's bloodline alive. A neighbor heard her and informed hag 1(grandma) and hag 2(great aunt) and they merrily arrived at our house 4 hours after she was scheduled to leave, with a friend of theirs who was a midwife. They explained that they didn't see the need for a fancy hospital when they knew someone who could do it for cheaper. Now here's the kicker. I don't know what program this woman was on, but she was apparently failed multiple times by her supervising doctors when she was a student and when she finally did pass, she had had only 3 months of actual professional experience when she helped my mom through labor. Unsurprisingly, my mother almost died 3 times that night, along with myself, but because she survived to tell the tale, hag 1 and hag 2 so no wrong in their actions and even go so far as to boast about their decision for the next 19 years. The midwife actually thinks I'm grateful to her considering she told me during a party once that there was almost no chance my mother would've made it given the lack of proper equipment and that she was impressed she was able to save me and my mom. Mind you, hags 1 and 2 only chose to have her do the damn operation because she boasted that, "I might not have had my license for very long but I spent 5 years training with accredited OB-GYNs. 5 years she spent failing, as she so proudly claims.

I'm the quiet older sister that never yells or talks back to my parents, but when I was around eleven or twelve and my sister was about ten, I remember how I screamed at my mother to take her to the hospital because she couldn't stop wailing in pain. My mom was so surprised that I screamed at her, she immediately took my sister to the hospital. Her appendix ruptured and I was in the room with them when she was told she needed surgery. I was crying because I was worried about her, and me mom yelled at my sister! My mom yelled at my sister telling her that she was scaring me. I yelled at my mom to shut up until a nurse pulled her out and I called our dad. It was a good thing I got her to go, cause the doctors said that my sister's appendix burst as the surgery was happening. If my mom waited any longer, my sister wouldn't be here. I didn't realized how much of an entitled person she was until I was around sixteen when she muttered to me and my sister about the waitress serving us a breakfast place. She said the waitress was acting like an impatient b-tch just because she talked really quickly. My sister and I looked at eachother before pointing out. "Mom, stop being rude. Don't you remember that YOU used to work as a waitress? Just relax and eat your french toast."

Similar to the appendicitus story (medical emergency/non-helpful parent figure). I was at a Campfire Girls (similar to girl scouts) campout when I was 7 and my friend's mom (FM) was one of the chaperones. They were teaching us how to whittle. I wasn't doing it right, but no one was watching me close enough (there were 8 girls and only 2 adults) and I ended up accidently cutting my pinky finger really bad. Like, I butterflied it open. When FM noticed, she rushed me back to the cabin to administer first aid (cleaning the wound, applying bandaging). She also called me dad's (now ex) wife and told her she needed to come get me and take me to the hospital to get stitches (dad was travelling for business and not in the state). Ex step-mom replied: "Just put a band-aid on it" When FM explained that my finger was butterflied open and needed stitches, ex step-mom just said they could take care of me there and refused to come get me. I never did end up getting stitches. Stupid b*tch...

The parents thought it was just a bruise and was taking him to his pediatrician the next day to be checked out to make sure since it was already late. He didn't make it to the next day. It turns out that he had burst his spleen when he had hit the top of a plastic chair on the way down and they didn't realize it. He bled out internally during the night and was dead when they woke up in the morning.

The EM in the personal fitness trainer story almost sounds like my mom. One day me and my family decided to go hiking on a mountain. When we got there the path was REALLY rocky. I got bruises and bumps because it was really rocky. When we got onto the top of the mountain, I once tripped and would've died if I was rolling instead of stopping with my feet because there was a cliff in front of me. And then, My mom said, "Stop eating the spam! (I was holding my spam musibi) It makes you distracted!" then proceeds to grab the spam out of my hands and threw it to the ground. I picked it up because she was littering. After that, we descended the mountain. Descending the mountain was very hard as it was steep. I tripped like 3 times and got bruises all around my legs and my feet hurt like heck. After descending the mountain, I complained to my mom that I had bruises all around my body. And then she said, "It was because your legs are shaky! (it really was because of the continuous climbing we all did.) And you are always not serious of everything and need to work out more!" It wasn't the rocky and steep mountain, not the near death experiences while ascending and descending the mountain, It was because I need to work out more. I still doubt her opinion till this day.
