RØDE NTR Ribbon Test & Interview

Музыка

We gave a pair of RØDE NTR Active Ribbon microphones to our producer and engineer friend Dan Sherratt to try them out on a real-world recording session. We later caught up via Skype to find out what Dan thought of them, and got some great recording tips on how he set them up, to boot!
The RØDE NTR Active Ribbon mic is now available. Order yours from a UK dealer here: www.sourcedistribution.co.uk/d...

Very instructional for many reasons. Just shows the strengths the of a ribbon, as well as weaknesses if recorded in the wrong environment. Notice how wonderful, rich and'warm, this particualr Rode ribbon mic sounds in a treated studio; and how much the sound quality degrades even with an excellent mic with early reflections in an untreated room..

I love these mics. They sound awesome on a female vocal, especially for ballads.

Would this be a wise choice for brass, says, as compared to a Royer 121? Thanks

Would this microphone be better than Shure sm7b for podcasting ? Is this true that ribbon mics like this would need a ribbon replacement every few years ?

They sound wonderful on voice but you need to remember they are a figure 8 pattern, so they won’t sound great in an untreated room.

I see you are using DT880 headphones. Would you recommend them for mixing?

Definitely - been using them for a year or so now. Other favourite is the Sony MDR7506 which we use at work!
