Quit Your Job and Live the Outdoor Lifestyle? | Your Questions Answered

Ойын-сауық

How do I quit my job and work in the outdoors, my ideal lifestyle, and I'm 19 years old, how do I build a log cabin like you did? I answer two questions I received on Instagram this week from young guys who want to get away from conventional jobs and society and live a life of freedom and passion in the outdoors. I felt, and ended up doing, the same when i was in my early twenties. Today, the question is just as compelling to me as it was 25 years ago.

Good on you Kansas, we are living on our fourth property now, we had a farm and lost it because of the changes a change of government brought into the country, we moved on working for others and bought a 20 acre block of land, we sold it and continued working for others then bought a house, we sold it and moved to Australia this time the house prices have doubled, so now we are looking at retiring to a block of land and selling the house we are living in, this will mean we will be mortgage free and that's what everyone wants. What I'm trying to say is don't give up when things don't work out, and when you buy a place and can sell it for double the price you paid then do so and move on to the next place, remember to save all the money you can until you finally can pay cash for a place, your goal should be to own your own place without a mortgage that way no one will be able to take the bit of land away from you.

@@kholmes1982 I can definitely relate to that as I also live in Michigan! There are definitely some beautiful places in Michigan to be able to retire. Awesome topic. I am self employed, work from home, and make a reasonable living.... so I have no real rush to "quit the day job". But I find great satisfaction in building our little farm. I'd rather be farming than working. Some days it's hard to stay focused and I find myself out in the yard with a tool in my hand, rather than seated at my desk. I'm hoping to transition slowly from office to farm as the years pass

I think these sort of “how to live” Q&As are really helpful to people, me included Shawn. Just these 2 guys questions could probably actually devolve into at least a full length video. The thing that struck me for some reason is, do both or either of them want to be totally off-grid,partially off-grid or have all the mod-cons while still living and working the outdoor lifestyle...and how do they ultimately want to end-up living down the road?

I am a retired woman who has lived in the wilderness most of my adult life. I too have had to try and find ways to make money while in the wilderness. I started 83 miles from Fairbanks...It was an important life. I did that in my 30's. Its much harder then you think but the trade off is worth it. I am now buying an A frame on the river in the wilderness of Montana. I am looking for someone to help me there as it is a lot of work to move into a house i the winter. I make leather work and do massage and do cooking for people. I have woofers come in the summer and help do gardens and chop wood and help with mowing and trimming of trees. It is a beginning adventure again and I find that the wilderness offers help to you in many ways...AS Shawn said you can do this sensibly or just jump in and trust there are those around you who will help you

Great video! I've recently decided to move outdoors, myself. I'm 26, I'm sick of living in the boxes people call homes, calling the land home feels more right to me, and I'm so so so much happier outside. I think this is a new movement. This video from 4 years ago will continue to get more and more views because it will only become more relevant as people get fed up with the cost of living. Thanks for sharing your tips to inspire more people to do it carefully, so they don't rush into anything they aren't prepared for.

I'm an old guy. Thank you for the motivational videos. It's great to see how this can be done . Although I think that it would be best as a part time venture for many.

You don't get to where you are without a lot of hard work. Some younger people want to jump to the stuff they love without doing the hard work to get there. You gave great advise.

Is 6-7 °C normal for Canada at this time? Here in Austria we have 22°C at the moment... last week and this week it was the same...I can go out with a t-shirt at daytime and that is not normal for Austrian conditions. It is far too hot here. I wish it was colder.

Survival Lilly ...its about normal for this time Lilly. Very often in this part of Canada we have some snow before the end of October, Calgary and lots of Alberta had alot of snow last week, but much of it has now melted.

It should be about 13c average during the day and 3c at night so we shouldn't see too many more major swings above the average this year.
