Shawn, Isn't it something that in this day and age we have to defend our beliefs from people who don't take the time to educate themselves first before trashing people's way of life. It tells us a lot about where our social structure is headed. We have been thinning out our trees and am amazed and how much regeneration has begun already. Very heathy for the land. Keep up the good work! Greetings from the Arrowhead.

Hey Lindsay! I read your post and thought exactly the same thing, in those exact words. Then I saw Arrowhead and your name! It makes me sad and mad that Shawn, and his family, have to endure crap from others who know nothing of his lifestyle and assume they can do and say whatever they want. We do the same with our grove..... clean out the old, dead and dying trees to allow the new trees to thrive. It's the intelligent thing to do for our environment! All my best...❤ Your "little" sister from Minnesota!

I am so sorry there are people today that love to cause problems and live on the bad side of things. I have so loved, my husband as well, watching you and learning from you things that we could never experience but would love to. Where you live is certainly a piece of heaven and you love taking care of it and sharing it with us. Once more it’s a shame we have people on such a negative side that want to complain about anything and everything especially things they don’t begin to understand. Last want to expose your private side of life that can be dangerous to your family. So not necessary. Our world has become such an unpleasant, unfriendly place to be but I’m so happy to get a little time with you to see another side. Plus sweet Callie!❤❤❤. Glad you’re still here!

If you’ve never had it, perhaps you aren’t sure exactly how the average person uses it? The nasty ones are loud, just like in real life, unfortunately. The scammers/fake accounts/spam garbage/identity theft is also a problem, and one of those usually affects a wide swath of people at once, unfortunately. None of these are reasons to sign up for FB, of course, but I’m saying the most people on it are nice and just want social interaction with their actual friends and relatives. That is also becoming difficult because FB itself has been doing social experiments on the FB population, and it has changed to become more ads and sponsored videos than friend updates. It’s pretty hard to navigate. I’d never sign up at this point, and I would leave if I didn’t message a few long distance friends that I don’t have access to anywhere else. And, you are both absolutely right about social media; the stats are out and basically people have become the star of their own show with all of their accounts… Especially those that they share videos of their life with the world, people have come to believe they are actually the centre of the universe and are truly self-absorbed in a way that has never before seen. It is tragic, and we (as a collective society) have done this to our kids who have never been without it. It’s terrifying.

As someone who's on FB, I can personally tell you that no, you're wrong. If you are a narcissist, you are a narcissist no matter what social media you're using. It's not the app's fault, it's the people. Me and my family/friends, for example, are only there for communication and occasionally sharing things we like or find funny. Sure I have some relative/friends who are narcissists, but it's not because of the app. That's just who they are.

I have reported twice a channel that has been posting your videos, if they go that far they'll go even further sadly. I learned a long time ago how cutting down a tree isn't a bad thing especially in a forest setting, how it gives space and life to the saplings. How some trees are diseased and cutting them down to utilize their wood is a good thing or leaving them to fall back into the earth. Another channel said their forest was a regrowth from logging. This info is super educational. We rub elbows daily with clueless people (I'm being nice)

Where I live, we don’t get as much rainfall as you do, and what people sometimes don’t understand is that an unmanaged forest can become (in a sense) rather sterile because the trees shade out everything else. And because we live in a more arid place, the forest here especially can devolve into a kind of barren place with aging and dying trees everywhere. What you are doing is making room for more diversity which makes for a healthier forest over time. It will be exciting to see what this area looks like in five years. ☺

Have you considered planting High Bush Cranberries? The grouse love them as well as many other animals and song birds. They are very beautiful in the fall and winter. I have planted many on my Wisconsin farm. A great way to get more Oak trees growing on your property is to collect the acorns after they drop from areas where they are abundant. Then just drop them in piles around your property. The squirrels will do the planting for you! I really respect the hard work your doing now to assure a very food rich environment for wild life for future! Ive been trying to do the same over the years. Im considering putting my property into a conservation easement before i die. I dont want my property to ever be subdivided and filled with homes or have my bluffs mined for Fracking sand!

I will be so sorry to see you scale back on this channel.... but I totally understand why you are doing it. I am recovering an old plot of land that used to be my grandparent's here in Portugal, its overgrown with sweet chestnut trees, walnut, oaks and cork oaks, and I have got so many transferable tips off you for solving issues that keep turning up in my tree management. I'm grateful for that but I also enjoy your videos immensely as they transport me away into an ideal realm I wish I lived in. People who have never experienced life close to the earth (literally) might think they know it all by following all the fundamentalist hype out there about planting trees and not cutting them, not eating meat, etc etc... but they are far from reality. Just carry on living the way you enjoy doing, if anything you supply us with the reality check about what living off grid and off nature really means. I for one think young people should learn the fundamental skills you show us. I hadn't a clue about how to build a log cabin before you showed me! Not that I will do it myself, but there are so many small details about hand tool management that come in so useful for what I'm trying to do now! Never thought I would need to use a saw, but here I am now! 😄Thanks for everything and I will keep watching and loving it.

Good morning Shawn I'm doing the same thing on my hunting property in the southern tier of NY I've been doing timber management for the last 5 years. I had a forester come through and his suggestion was to replace trees with hazelnut bushes as they will start nut production in 5 years . Good luck with your management.

I think it is terrible that people feel they have to find the exact location where you live. I can not believe people do this, it is your privacy and what you share to us on you tube is just that. As for sharing your location that is not right. I am so sorry, though I enjoy your content have followed you for years since you built the old pad and started this one. Your privacy and family safety comes first Shawn. Good idea to thin out the trees. Look forward to see what your adventures hold this year.

Thanks for sharing. This has been very informative. It appears to be a sign of the times that some people are acting the way that they do. It is amazing that you were able to actually see a turkey nest.

Great video Shawn. It’s frustrating when people form an opinion strictly on emotion and with no facts to support their fear. You have proven to be a fantastic steward of the land and have based what you decide to do on knowledge and fact. Looking forward to see these improvements and changes mature. Thanks for sharing. Love Cali.

When you become a "public figure", whether that's due to being a singer, actor, etc. or even exposure on KZread, you risk loosing your privacy and anonymity. It's one of the reason why I stay off all those "social" (really gossip would be more accurate) media. They are a breeding ground for hatred.

Keep doing what you’re doing but make whatever changes you need to, to keep family safe and feel good bout things. Real fans will still follow. Good luck, best wishes!

Shawn government records is how people find where you live, and these pay sites that you pay to remove your information from the web, mare the ones who own these site that publish your data from public records, on the sites that sell your data. Canada like the USA the government land records generally is public online for all to search ownership, and all you need is a person to find. The government public records is the number one threat to privacy.

So sorry you must deal with people like that. I watch every video and really appreciate your content and lifestyle. If “they” don’t agree they should just not watch, no one is forcing them too! Some people just stir discontent. They should listen and learn something. Peace and love from N Georgia.

Seriously? Professional forester here. You are the kind of landowner I dream of. I've yet to hear you say anything incorrect in regards to forest management. Your understanding of the ecosystem makes me hope that the private landowners I work with one day get to the level you are already at. It's too bad ignorant people post on your channels, but I can confirm, militantly stupid people are impossible to educate. I deal with them, too (been a forester for 28 years and I still get guys saying 'what would a woman know about forestry?'). Good luck with the white oak - they are the preferred browse species and the acorns mature over a single season rather than two. As long as you aren't outside of their range, and they don't get browsed down to nothing! Lol!
