After running into a bit of trouble with copyright issues for this video (and also the previous one, which is still blocked worldwide RIP), finally it's here! My first participation on AKROSS Con, and I'm honored to have made into the Top 10 finalists! I wasn't even thinking of running for this contest, but when I heard about it being possibly the last edition, I had to go for it. Back when I first started editing, many of the AMVs I admired and which inspired me were from AKROSS Con, and I dreamed of eventually feeling confident enough to put myself out there like this. Being a contestant this year was nerve-racking but well worth it!
It was even more amazing because I was able to show my editing with Brazilian music to an international audience! I love this band and this song which fascinates me. If you're not a Portuguese-speaking viewer, don't forget to turn on the subtitles!
About the concept, I'll copy-paste my words from the contest's website:
When working on this, I tried to show the deep connection among the diverse forms of life in our planet, the natural (and supernatural) mysteries of this world and the smallness of human race in face of nature and its age-old wisdom and unpredictability. I planned to use a different song when I decided to run for this contest, but when I realized how perfectly "maré" went with "Mushishi", I had to edit it as soon as possible. After making this association I understood the song much better, so I fell in love with this concept. It's fascinating to me how it goes in a scientific direction at the same time it can go in a spiritual direction. (...)
The poem I refer to in the beginning, "Continent's End", is perfect for the concept of this AMV. I recommend that you check it out if you can; the last three stanzas are my favorite (really wish I could've put them into the video, but I hate AMV full with text). Mushishi is the main anime used in this video and if you watched it, I hope you'll be able to see even deeper into the concept. The other ones were mostly visual support, but the "one is all, all is one" philosophy of Fullmetal Alchemist goes really well into this AMV, too (which is why I used that last scene). So, there are a lot of references to the ocean, forest and life within nature in general in this AMV. Quintessence, the title, refers to this: the purest state of life, where we are most basic and most complex.
I'm immensely happy that I found such a perfect song and then a perfect match to it. I'm proud of the work I presented in this contest and that's what's most important to me. I hope you'll enjoy it!
Edit: Holy shit I wrote this all before being confirmed that I won Best Psychedelic I'M STOKED I'm so happy!!! I was afraid I wouldn't even get into the top 20. This is unreal, haha. I'm deeply thankful to everyone who voted for me ♡
EDIT [20/04/2018]: I wasn't aware that I was running up for Most Original Video at TheOrg's Viewer's Choice Awards. I don't know how the contest works but I'm so grateful that I was nominated and won the category. I'm not very active in the community, especially at TheOrg, but I know how big this contest is and I'm honored that my work was acknowledged. To those that made it possible, thank you very much.
