I think you came up with some really great ideas for people to make their own tools! I haven't tried quilling because - honestly, I have thought the price for the paper strips and the tools was WAY overpriced and been looking for ways to get the same effects myself without having to invest in another art medium that I just want to dabble in for now. Several months ago I bought a bunch of standard tools from Menards that I thought I could convert into some quilling tools. I am glad I stumbled across this video today because I had no idea about the different kinds of quilling tools and you showed a nice variety here. I am certain that, with this video, I can now create even more tools than I had originally thought of. I have also watched several other quilling videos today that have inspired some ideas. Thanks for sharing these. Very clever to quill your own quilling tools! I would not have thought of THAT. I do like the DIY combs and I think, yes, you can always make anything bigger if you use your imagination - you don't have to just settle for the tools they sell you. You can see the basic idea of how they are done and enlarge it. Well done!!

I just started this a few weeks ago and I took my ordinary hair comb and worked it then I wanted a quilling needle I have some canvas needles on hand and made mine with the filler of an ink pen as my handle. and the nib holder to secure it but every now and again it kinda wobbles but it works. so I have transferred it to a rolled stock card and it works perfect. thanks for the change over great job. I made my quilting coach out of plastic and draw in the circles with a permanent marker a bit off but will adjust it with a protractor thanks again.

Water based sealants (like Mod Podge for example) tend have this slightly tacky feel even when they are fully dry, but solvent based sealants dry nice and smooth. I would suggest spray lacquer, boat/furniture varnish or even resin for sealing the ring forming tree (forgot its name already, but you know what I mean..) and the sticks. The harder it dries, less tacky it will be and the formed rings should separate with ease :)

Thanks dear Jill Lewandowski for your Kind words. Here on this page you can find some informations about strips: www.quilling.ch/strips/ before I use to cut them by Hand. Here in this Video you can see by 1:30 minutes I cut a 4mm Strip by Hand in three parts kzread.info/dash/bejne/Y4iBmbBrfrjVmKQ.html and here in this Video by 1:20 minutes I cut a 4mm Strip by Hand in four parts kzread.info/dash/bejne/o5tntpOkqNSWhpc.html it needs a little experience until you get them nice cut, but it works. I have done lots of flowers like this. Since some weeks I use now a Pasta machine to cut my strips. I only have the attachemnt for 1.5 mm you can also buy one with 0,8mm cut. Here you can see all informations about a Pasta machine www.quilling.ch/strips/cutting-with-pasta-machine/ you will also find this Video linked on this site: kzread.info/dash/bejne/iJh20KpunMzPoLA.html I hope this informations will help you further.

Thanks a lot dear Kimberly Rae for your kind words and ideas. Yes I have a flea comb, I use actually three different dog combs (I have a dog) they are just great for Quilling because the comb teeth are vers strong and not so movable. The flea comb I have only used at the beginnings, its quite a challenge to do wraps on it, but the shapes are lovely, it just takes a lot of time. At last the shapes are not much different as if you quill and shape them with the circle. At the beginning I was not yet so good in shaping nice shapes so, with the flea comb it looked better, but now I can do them so good as if I use the flea comb, and I am faster doing it the other way. So the flea comb is not any more a tool I use much. Its a bit difficult to explain in words. But I hope you can understand a little bit, what I am trying to explain. Kind regards from Switzerland. bye
