    Brilliant, Kev! And the result is so convincing. However, I have a week old alpha build of 2.81 for Mac and I'm intrigued as to how come my Voronoi Texture node is so different from yours - much more complex, with no crackle and with completely different layout and 'feature' options (for example: 1d, 2D, 3D and 4D, F1 & F2; Distance to Edge, Sphere radius, etc)?

  • @KevBinge

    @KevBinge

    4 жыл бұрын

    Thanks!! Hmmm... they may have updated it for 2.81. I’m not doing 2.81 videos until it’s official, as I’d jumped on 2.8 very early on and it changed so much from video to video that it was a huge headache. Truth is though that Voronoi will work even with updates and no crackle, you’d just need to push the edges together with a ramp and tweak it. I’ll have to take a look at 2.81 and see the alternatives through. Thanks for the heads-up!!

    Hi Kev. Thanks for the great tutorial, it is exactly what I needed for a current project, but it brought my poor machine to a grinding crawl and then a CUDA error. Can you put up the specs on the machine you use for these ? My upgraded Mac is not up to this task so I may have to build a machine specifically for Blender work. Also, the Vornoi texture in Blender 2.82a has completely different looking settings. I played around with and consulted the blender manual to see if I could get it to do what you're doing. Here is what I ended up using and it looks exactly right. Connect the Distance to the Bump, set to 2D, Distance to Edge, and scale 800 randomness 1. I'd put the screen grab up but I can't figure out how to attach and image to this. regards -AK

  • @KevBinge

    @KevBinge

    4 жыл бұрын

    There are 2 choices on the subdivision modifier. Use “simple”. Also, it’s jaggy because you don’t have enough subdivisions, but more will cause a crash. It’s best to find balance, and maybe render with Cycles over EEVEE if EEVEE is crashing. Use CPU rendering too if you have issues.

  • @SerpentGirl21

    @SerpentGirl21

    @@KevBinge I took your advice and went with CPU rendering and the crashing stopped. It seems with the experimental version, the renderer goes through more steps prior to tiling out the scene, and it continuously crashed on one of those steps. Also I was using a different HDRI than you, but it had poor lighting. tweaking the bump, color ramp, and displacement settings seemed to hide some of the jagginess. Thanks for your help!

    Just "throwing a few more zeroes" into the far clipping distance is not free-- you lose on your Z resolution and will have more Z-fighting geometry when polygons are too close together. The ratio of far / near drives this resolution, so you can get a little bit of that Z resolution back by pushing the near clipping plane out too. The cost there is that objects will clip more if they get too close to the camera. There's no such thing as a free lunch.
