SOooooo, very glad to see you here demonstrating watercolor pencil painting. I bought your book, "Quick and Clever Watercolour Pencils," many years ago. and still have a copy. I hadn't painted with pencil in a long time. I had a surgical accident and lost the use of my hand 2 1/2 years ago and I am still in weekly Neurological therapy...Getting better was linked to my strong desire to create again. I wanted to see if I could still do something I really liked. I learned that fine line drawing is a thing of the past. I had been trying to do traditional watercolor also, but mixing was a challenge. Then I remembered your book and realized what I could do. So I got it out, just because I enjoyed it so much. I needed something that made me feel like painting and enjoying it were possible again. That was a week ago. And here you are. Just whom and what I needed, so I can see where and when, I need to do what. And now I'm painting with a pencil and loving it. Thank you again, so very much, for your KZread channel. Of course, I subscribed. I hope you continue to show us some watercolor pencil work. There is so little here.

Have dabbled in different media, oil pastels, soft pastels and acrylics and enjoyed those, I tried watercolour but everything turned out muddy and yuk! However, your tutorial has inspired me to try watercolour pencils and I love them! So much easier to control. Thanks for your excellent no nonsense tutorials. Ps - I have just treated myself to your book Quick and Clever Watercolour Pencils too!

Love the softness of pencils, I recently discovered watercolor markers by ohuhu, lots of fun to play with also.😀

This is beautiful. It's not often that I get the coloured pencils out, although I used to use them a lot with my children when they were youngsters. I have a decent set of colour pencils, so I'll try this. I bought a set of the Lyra pencils for my eldest daughter who likes to do illustrations, although she's starting to get into digital art these days.

I've just had a go at this Charles and I have to say how pleased I am with my efforts (especially since its 50 years since I last painted !) and so therapeutic and relaxing. I'm learning so much from watching your videos. Thank you so much. Just one quick question (of many I'm sure) - what tape do you use to hold down your paper - is it just standard masking tape - i used this but found it had a tendency to pull the surface of my paper slightly?

The brush is a 3/4” flat and the paper is Langton 140lb. It’s all on my website.

Fantastic video, thanks Charlie! As a new artist, I'm finding that my watercolour pencils (Mondeluz koh-i-noor) leave lines on the page after brushing with water. I have experimented with pressing lighter and harder and varying the volume of water on the brush, but it doesn't seem to make a huge difference! Am I doing something wrong?

I either use my Langton Rough paper, or my sketchbook.

Great production! (that includes the camera person for steady shots and pointing at right things at the right time with the right close ups).
