To remove the "gunk" on these CDs, simply soak them in warm (not hot) water with a little dish soap, the gunk will either dissolve on its own, or will rub off with your thumb. It's not CD rot; it seems to be an "off gassing" transference of the glue in the packaging (or something like that). It seems to be confined to some FTDs manufactured around that time; I had it on (I think) the Loving You release, Let Yourself Go, and I Found My Thrill. I don't remember my I Sing All Kinds being affected, but it's been a long time since I pulled that disc out. Storing those discs shiny side up seems to help prevent further transference down the road.

This cd is easily cleaned. I had this problem and used soapy water and sponge or soft cloth. You can also use surgical spirits and cotton wool. It's a reaction to the glue like you said. CD rot is totally different, where the silver coating disintegrates. Love what you're doing😊 👍

Jamie, flip your disc over so the Silver side is face up, I had the same issue with Made in Memphis and over time this clears the disc

Thankfully, it may not be as bad as it seems; others in the comment section have said it's a fairly easy fix - so I'm going to try that soon!

Guys, I’ve had this happen in the past with cds, especially the “There’s Always Me” bootleg series. A trick I tried back then that worked, was using warm water, a mild dish soap, and a sponge . Submerge the cd and then take the cd and wipe from the center hole to the edges in a straight line. It removed the “oxidation/rot” on mine.⚡️

As for the CD problem, take soapy water. Dip a cotton ball in the soapy water and clean the disc gently with the cotton ball. Then rinse the CD with water, let it dry and the problem will be solved.

Usually all the CDs I buy are used so I wash them using a very soft sponge and just use your favorite soap anti-bacteria I recommend and then I dry them with 100% cotton towel and then once I dry them then I play them. maybe this will help, thanks for your videos

A great FTD CD Release but the "CD Production Quality Control" really sucks back in those FTD Days (a rumor was, that the CD's were produced in China). I look at my copy at this moment and the "CD Rot" is slightly but by far not so bad as Jamie's copy. The same goes for the "I Found My Thrill" CD. The Song Content must be "too hot", as the glue comes through😬 Thank you John and Jamie
