These quicker videos are nice, especially when you want to show this to your boss. More of these enterprise/business items (not everyone cares about RGB on SSDs).

I know this is an old video, but I watched this video before buying one of these and thought I'd just give a quick update about the comment made at 3:34. You don't have 10 seconds to enter the pin. You have 10 seconds to "begin" entering your pin. I tested this by taking well over 20 seconds entering my pin and it worked just fine. This may just be an update on newer versions of the device. But not too sure if thats the case or not.

The crowdfunded Signet USB device seems better.

My understanding is that the Signet device relies on client-side software, and while the software is available for Windows, macOS, and Linux, it wouldn't work for devices like a NAS, photo or document printer, or document copier. With on-device physical PIN-based encryption like this datAshur or similar competing products, the drive is accessible to any device once unlocked without needing any kind of software for decryption.

    Is the firmware/software open source???

There is no software, but, to my understanding, the firmware is not open source, which is a valid concern/factor and something that gives an advantage for some users to open source-based devices like the Signet you mentioned.

@@jimtanous2151 but do they use secure internal cloud storage for their data or do they use Amazon S3 Buckets with on password like many companies have done in the last years 😁

    Is this an ad?

No. An ad that points out design issues and contradicts the company's performance claims? That would be a first. Some products we review are simply unsuitable for a lengthy in-depth analysis, so we're adding these shorter "quick look" reviews to our coverage. They are linked to written reviews at the website which are usually longer as the video content is edited down to suit the quick look format (i.e., no superfluous "hey guys how's it going?" intros or fumbling around live on camera). We explicitly state when content is sponsored, such as ads during our podcast or the occasional sponsored video.

Yeah is an ad. In the description they have a link to amazon where they will get a cut if anyone buys it. Sketchy as fuck that they didn't say in the video they are getting paid if you purchase it.

@@dylansands2627 The article this review is linked to contains our complete review disclosure statement. We can look at adding those tables to the KZread description but the lack of text formatting options on KZread means we might have to modify it a bit. But regarding the affiliate link itself, yes, as is standard practice among reviewers in every industry we use affiliate links for virtually all products we cover, even the ones to which we give wholly negative reviews. The link mentions Amazon and is clearly associated with our affiliate program. We were not paid in any way by the company that made the product (or anyone else) and while we will earn a commission via Amazon if you buy the drive from them, we don't base what we review or how we review it on "affiliate potential." If that were the case, why would we say anything negative at all? I agree that having to use affiliate links isn't ideal, but in a world where most people use ad blockers and balk at options like Patreon, what other alternatives are there to support the site/channel? As I've unfortunately learned, many creators/sites make up for the lost ad revenue by charging companies for reviews/coverage or selling the review samples they receive (and of course not disclosing either activity). Those are things we will never do under any circumstance. So again, while not ideal, our choice is to use disclosed affiliate links. We can, however, do a better job of making sure that at least the affiliate disclosure is verbally stated in the video (we always verbally state when the video is an advertisement or otherwise sponsored). Although judging by the tone of your comment, I doubt you care. Edit: I added the disclosure statement from the website to the video description. Looks kind of messy, but oh well.
