    looks amazing! Performance wise, what do you use to make sure everything runs smoothly. I find when I add a lot of grass things start to slow down quite a bit.

  • @polygonflow

    @polygonflow

    Using Nanite as a first step on your grass definitely reduces the performance overload! The rest mostly pertains to shader complexity. Our current shaders are fairly lightweight, and we're working on simplifying them even further :) They all ship with Dash, btw.

    I was going to ask can you also apply wind direction or would that affect performance too much? Cuz whenever I make scenes I want to be able to make it with great performance on lower GPUs

  • @polygonflow

    @polygonflow

    Wind certainly has its cost, but shouldn't be a deal breaker in such a scene! Yes, you can apply wind on it. In our upcoming 1.2 update, we'll be shipping wind support in our foliage materials, actually.

    is there any way to "stamp" the meshes like you do it with pcg forrests for performance ? or is this even necesery with dash ?

  • @polygonflow

    @polygonflow

    5 ай бұрын

    It's not necessary as by default we use Hierarchical Instanced Static Meshes which is what PCG does after stamping. So you are all good! :)

    pretty cool stuff!, but I've been wondering, what advantage does this have over the new pcg tools in unreal right now?

  • @polygonflow

    @polygonflow

    8 ай бұрын

    Thanks! I would say the main advantage is that it is much easier to get started as you never need to touch any nodes/graphs, the tools are just there, ready to be used. And then in general our tools are easier to use even after you have gone through the hassle of setting up the PCG graph. Dash just exists there and your tools are just a search, or a drag-and-drop away (if you use our Content Library with your Megascans assets). And you also get more tool types in Dash in one way. We have our Content Library, our camera tools, our grading tools, and easy access to change your materials. To be fair, the main disadvantage is that Dash is not as great as PCG when it comes to larger-scale environments. But I think they can work great together, using Dash for the more detailed parts of your environments for example. Feel free to join our Discord if you have any more questions or want help with learning the basics of Dash! :)

    Thanks, i really appreciate the info, I'm just starting to get into this sort of stuff. I looked into the pcg stuff last night and it didn't seem awefully hard to set up. I would consider this if it was a 1 time payment, do you guys have any plans to switch over to pay to own at any point in time by chance? Thanks again!@@polygonflow

    @@chinchillaturtle7121 Maybe, nothing decided yet. But it won't happen soon if it does happen. For the time being, we think our current business model makes the most sense since we will keep updating it with new tools/features and also offer support for all the updates that come to Unreal. However, I can promise you this, if you get a license, and after one year you find that the updates were not worth the subscription price, please ping me and I’ll give you one year's worth of subscription for free to compensate you. /Daniel

    How did you transfer your blender assets to unreal is it a free or paid plugin? Or did you just export as a fbx and bake the textures to the assets and send them to unreal? Trying to find a good workflow to transfer my assets to blender to UE5

  • @polygonflow

    @polygonflow

    No plugin was used actually. I just laid out the UVs to work with a couple of Megascan surfaces. I then animated it in Blender and exported it as an FBX with the bones and geometry. I hope that helps! :)

    @@polygonflow oh ok. When you say “laid out the uvs to work with the mega scan surfaces” do you mean when you took the blender assets to Unreal you used blender textures or the mega scan ones over the blender uvs to fit the scene?

    $20/mth after 3 months. Is Dash for studios? Def not for hobbiest. I suppose we'll wait for a free or cheap alternative. In the future please consider a business model of quantity of sales at a low price, no more than $5 per month. There are thousands of people in third world countries who may be willing to pay up to $5, that may bring an exponentially higher profit than targeting studios at $20 P/M.

    We have both freelance and studio licenses. And we have yet to find our perfect pricing no, it is a hard balance to find a price that works for us, for the business to survive, and also works for the majority of our possible users. Getting feedback like this is very appreciated as we are always thinking of what price is the right now. If I may ask, where are you based?
