Quick and dirty introduction to overset meshes in Ansys Fluent 2023

Ғылым және технология

😎 In this video tutorial, we briefly introduce overset meshes, quickly explore how to set overset meshes in Ansys Fluent and run a simple static case using overset meshes in Ansys Fluent 2023.
🤔Overset meshes (OM) are also known as overlapping grids, overset composite grids, composite overlapping meshes, chimera meshes, patches grids, composite grids, relaxed multi-block meshes.

Thank you very much for this video! Is there any video for moving mesh with the overset method?

Well, if I am not mistaken there are a couple of videos were I address moving meshes, in fluent and openfoam. If they are not in the playlist, let me know.

Hey Folks! Thanks a million for these videos! I think your materials are fantastic.... I had tried to use openFOAM overset meshes a few years ago for a rotating turbine case. This is a large case, with potentially millions of cells. I managed to get the simulation to run correctly, but my experience was that the overset approach was much much slower than other dynamic mesh setups. This was especially true when using a large number of processors. In your experience, do you believe that the openFOAM overset mesh numerics will be as fast as say a solid body motion solver? I understand that the benefit of overset meshing is that the motion can be large and arbitrary, and may be more suitable for FSI work. Cheers! Jarlath

It does not matter what software you use, Overset meshes is always slower. You use overset meshes only when you need it. It is the ultimate frontier and it has a high computational cost.
