Question: How Do You Choose an Email Address to Use Professionally?

Ғылым және технология

My question revolves around picking a professional looking email address. I see so many younger people still using old email addresses they must have created back when they were younger, that are just not serious at all.
Things like 'stronghenchman123@gmail.com' and 'rockmusicdude1990@yahoo.com' etc etc.
These days with email being used in so many different places, I would have though people would care more about how their email address looks to the rest of the world.
I often wonder what would be the best and most professional looking email address options for when using it in job applications, CV's / Resume's etc.
For example:
info@johnsmith.com
contact@johnsmith.com
johnsmith@gmail.com
john.smith1990@gmail.com
johnsmithlovestechno@gmail.com
Also, what about if you have your own domain name, for example elietherton.com, would it look more professional to use contact@elietherton.com over elietherton@gmail.com?

I use gmail for most things, because it's easy, recognizable to everyone, and it should be around for the extent of my email usage. I do plan to make an email for my domain just because I can at least get the first year free with my hosting provider. However, assuming everyone should have their own domain because it's inexpensive is a bit much. It's not inexpensive, upkeep can be complocating, just maintaining the site is a lot of extra work, and for some people it's a bit pointless. Sure, that first year you can get it hosted and have name rights for pretty cheep. Yet, as soon as that first year is over, domain costs go up significantly, emails tied to your domain will cost, keeping an ssl is often another extra cost, and once the starter deal is over hosting goes way up as well.

Great Video clip! Excuse me for chiming in, I am interested in your thoughts. Have you ever tried - Tarbbatigan Ascertain Email Tip (search on google)? It is a smashing exclusive product for learning how to find out information about a person simply by knowing their email minus the headache. Ive heard some extraordinary things about it and my cousin got amazing success with it.

muh opinions. discarding however many people using stated email providers, or any you don't like, or any that aren't paid, is wholesale stupid, and as a trade-off this high-pass filter will just cut out a whole lot of people regardless of anything other than them going for what to you take as `unprofessional` and not paid enough. the world isn't static, but this kind of fuckery perpetuates and/or creates stereotypes and a status quo.

Wait what have you’re own domain name? What if you’re an average Joe who just wants a more mature email? We don’t need to go buy domains and stuff

How secure is using your own domain name as opposed to using gmail or yahoo?

Depends how/where the domain and email server for it are being hosted. If you are using an email hosting service from a large and reputable company, with spam filtering added, in theory it shouldn't be any less secure than the email services that Google or Yahoo offer. The biggest insecurity would usually be the method you actually use to access that email server.

Person's own domain name? Maybe for SOME businesses, but not really for any individual persons. Individual people did not need their own domain name 20 years ago. We did not need our own domain name 30, or 40 or 50 years ago. Maybe about 25 to 30 years ago we had to have a telephone number and an answering machine.
