You don’t have to take every article seriously, these are just opinions. Russians are taking chips from washing machines, washing the headline perpetuated by Nuland, Von der leyen of the EU over and over. Then we got Hilary Clinton and Zelensky’s wife on CNBC talking about how an old Ukrainian lady had downed a Russian aircraft from her window with a hanger, this was all over the place. Point is, this is a NATO vs Russia. It is a gang of US led countries against one country. Even the US can’t fight alone because war is for the large part logistics. NATO had been preparing 7 years for this. The Trump presidency interrupted the plan, it got delayed. As soon as those responsible for the Coup in Ukraine 2014 got back in power with Biden, it was game on. Same Nuland and Co. Russia needs ammunition, just like NATO has gone around the World sourcing ammunition because of the high rate of usage in this conflict. The US can’t keep up with the artillery demands of Ukraine, the EU either. Russia is also trying to use Noth Korea for this purpose. Good example is Israel Hamas conflict. Israel has had to constantly request weapons from the US, while fighting an opponent in an area which is under siege for the past 16 years and of which they control almost everything. Even America and England are very much involved in this. Warships, helicopters, satellites, Tanks , and all the sophisticated stuff against an enclave of a few square kilometres and not even having the capacity sustain that for 2 weeks.

South Korea doesn't have a future. Just look at the geography of South Korea, it is surrounded by unfriendly countries, like China, Russia, North Korea, and Japan. None of those countries like em. If something does happen, that country will get leveled.

North Korea is getting something out of it, like technology transfer, and access to Russian military hardware, like aircraft. They will also be able to buy Russian, oil, and other resources they don't have.

They cannot compete with Tesla, at least not long term. Short term they can make a few attractive prototypes, maybe even produce a couple hundred thousand EVs, BUT Tesla has the best efficiency in manufacturing, they make a lot more money per car than BYD, who is the second best EV maker. VW and Rivian are losing lots and lots of money on every EV they sell. Combining forces will not solve anything. Rivian has really good software, and that's probably what VW wants to get their hands on. Unfortunately Rivian's ADAS system is crap, you need millions of cars running the software to achive level 5 autonomy. .. end keep training, improving indefinitely, to optimize for changing infrastructure.

While on the topic, the Harkonnen Arena scene in Dune 2 was filmed with an IR camera to give it that cool black & white effect. There's a few KZread videos floating around that explain it. At first I thought it was CGI because I hardly see footage filmed in IR in my daily life.

They have already instituted this technology on the street. Private security firms and maybe police use this to spy on people to see if they are carrying weapons or drugs or electronics under their clothes. Why do you think they came up with this bogus 6 feet social distancing during the pandemic? I laugh at people wearing masks and hoodies thinking their faces are being hidden. Of course I'm a crackpot spouting conspiracy theories.

There was a time when it was said that competition was the bedrock of a free liberalized market, but these days competition is defined as 'national security'. The Tonya Harding method is a band aid measure because we are just incentivizing China to develop a robust tech industry.

China’s secret sauce for NEV global dominance (predicted by 2030). We all know Huawei, but do you know Xiaomi? How about a $30,000 (in China) Xiaomi instead of a $100,000+ Porsche? Here it is all in black and white and IT reigns king in design/dev. “Xiaomi and Huawei have both introduced high-selling electric vehicles. Why did Apple fail?” Inside China Business, April 15, 2024 kzread.info/dash/bejne/mqaGuK6OaMTAebg.html DESCRIPTION Xiaomi sold 90,000 of its new SU-7 sedan on the first day. The SU-7 is similar in styling and features to the Porche Taycan, but at about a fifth the price. The Xiaomi model is also priced well below Tesla's Model 3. Huawei also offers EV, with a pricing strategy to appeal to the mass market of buyers. At about the same time Xiaomi and Huawei launched their new models, Apple announced that they would abandon their decades-long quest to build an EV. So why were Xiaomi and Huawei successful, and also much faster to market, compared to AAPL and its $3 trillion market cap? The proximity and depth of China's supply chains in Electric Vehicles is key. China enjoys near monopolies on many of the natural resources and industrial processes integral to EV manufacturing. By the time Huawei and Xiaomi decided to enter the industry, it was already too late for anyone else who isn't already here. In the EV market, Tesla and Volkswagen may be able to compete globally against BYD, Huawei, Xiaomi, and other Chinese brands; that's because Tesla and VW have factories here, and deep supply chain relationships. Nobody else has a chance. Not even Apple. Resources and links: Apple isn't making an EV, but Chinese phone makers are showing they can www.wsj.com/business/autos/xi... Apple ends quest to build electric vehicles www.wsj.com/business/autos/ap...

I find whenever Americans take over a corporation the seek out any happiness and destroy it. American corporate culture is sick. All of the people in the upper ranks want to be emperors instead of contributors. This is an ill very insecure non community oriented culture. I am old and knew when Boeing moved they were doomed. Just took a while since aviation is slow.

I want an electric car that can feed back into my house's micro grid battery backup system and solar system. I also don't want my car hooked up to a cellular network and drive by wire seems to easy to turn off remotely. Also it should be able to turn my local pond half into coke zero.

Actually some of the new generation Chinese EV’s do almost everything (including powering your home) on your list except for the Coke Zero thing but they “do do” Pepsi Zero Sugar! :-) New Huawei and Xiaomi EV’s are literally lifestyle IoT devices on wheels! They pulled off what Apple could not! (See my comment and program link above. Very interesting.) Oh, how about adding one of those smiling Chinese barista robots to your smart home so that you have your “flat white” waiting for your arrival?

Rivian is already dead. So is tesla. It was a huge mistake to give them 5 billion as vw could just buy them once they go bankrupt in a few years. All these EV companies can’t make a profit without subsidies. So it’s a socialist company where government is giving them money to survive

mandates are anti free market. i really think they should go away. not that it will necessary save the gas car companies since theyve been making cars harder to repair to save costs and less reliable. but if someone wants to buy a v8 mustang they should be allowed to. if someone wants a f-350 with 2 tanks that can go 500 miles without a fill up they should. dont get me wrong. electrification aint bad in the city where no ones really going father than 30 miles but ive driven cross country and i dont see electrification working in the boonies.

The key phrase of this story is “up to $5 billion”. They will make the initial investment, get what they need and wait for the company to collapse and be able to take everything they want. There is absolutely no way VW invests the whole $5 billion or even half that.
