One of the main reasons that conflicts between lions can be so violent and deadly is that they often arise due to competition for limited resources, such as food, water, and mating opportunities. When lions are forced to live in smaller areas with fewer resources, this competition can become even more intense, leading to higher levels of aggression and violence.

Lions aren't stupid, they know when to leave an area. These lions will be fine. They are healthy and not looking like they need to eat. If they go like two weeks without food, then it's an issue. It’s so funny because naturally this is how we should feel. The law with animals is different, but I still feel you. We see they do have loyalty so I really don’t understand this one necessarily either. Just that survival I guess

If he keeps the sons in the vicinity, they'll be of tremendous threat to him in time. First off, the sons would rally together to take over his pride. They would kill his new offsprings, get his females and kill him. Either that or they'd banish him. It is a death sentence for a solitary old injured lion. If their mother is too old to reproduce, they'd scent it through hormones and their old mother would be the last to eat and would be subject of great bully. Although the lioness feel it is wrong to banish her teenage sons, actually the father lion has helped her unknowingly banishing them. Only daughters, you can keep because they would help to hunt and would also reproduce with the king to get more offspring and they'll never try take over anything nor bully the grownups.

Male lions won't stick around if the females aren't providing food. Yes they hunt on their own but they usually just take the females food/eat what they want. It's the trade off for providing protection but if they aren't producing food, they'll move on. There's also a chance two females were going off abd hunting on their own then retrieving the young ones and not letting the males know. Because with mouths to feed, the last thing they are worried about is getting food for the males. They'll fight the males over the food if that's all they do is take food and bully the pride, females won't put up with it. Who knows why the males left. Maybe they got bored decided to chase food instead. Who knows...
