Queen Nzinga of Ndongo & Matamba

Please consider supporting me at / lindsayholiday
Nzinga was the Queen regnant of the joint kingdoms of Ndongo and Matamba, in modern day Angola in Africa. She stood up to the Portuguese colonialists and defended her people from enslavement. Her brilliance, pride and perseverance forced the Portuguese to recognize her kingdoms and she remains a symbol of freedom and resistance to oppression to this day. She is one of the great Queens of African History.

To be honest, when schools teach world history most of africa and Asia is overlooked, isn't it. Not like most people know any Asian history either, even most European history is unknown by 99% of people in the West. The general population at best have a loose understanding of the most most (most) important dates and that's it, they don't really take the time needed to get it. I don't see why sub-saharan African history should be especially emphasized when people know next to NOTHING about Indian, Chinese, or middle-eastern history, despite those areas being (along with Europe) those in which civilisation advanced and thrived. You know what the real reason behind what you're saying is: your will of being generous and inclusive, not really your interest in a balanced history. Hypocritical. In the end people don't care about what's really important, they just care about pleasing their neighbours. Is this really education or just a superficial show for social peace.

Wow rarely ever do you hear about a Queen having a harem of men....love it! It's always Kings/Emperors who we hear about having harems of women and concubines. I read about Queen Nzinga some years ago but the information was scant back then. So glad scholars are researching more about African history. Queen Nzinga was an amazing and strategic Queen. And her military power was amazing, considering the patriarchal attitudes towards women back then. What's also fascinating is she lived to be 80 years old (as well as her sister). Considering the low life expectancy for that time period. Pssss.....I've always felt women make great leaders. It's too bad patriarchy stunted this because it'd be interesting to see how history would've evolved with more women in power like Queen Nzinga. Outside of Africa, Native Americans were also at ease with female leaders! Kudos to Angola for being open minded towards female leaders!

Many African nations and Native American tribes were actually once very polyamorous. White patriarch cahnged their minds. Many of these cultures, the men didn't care about whether a child was biologically theirs, they all took care of each others children. Women were just as free to have many lovers as men were. Many deny this but its true. Men having harams who were monogamous came afterwards.

Hey, is it possible for you to let me put subtitles in portuguese for this video? I really liked it and wanted to share to everyone I know but most of them don't understand english. I want them to see this side of portuguese colonialism. Many think that we were a pacifist empire and didn't oppress anyone from the colonies but we all know that isn't the truth (If you invade a country, you are already perpetrating violence). So I want them to realize we weren't cute and fuzzy. We were also perpetrators of racism. And it's still very much alive today even if it's not as bad as in other countries.
