Quality LED’s and Moving Lights at Less Cost

Introducing the “Not-at-all-new” Gamma LED Vision! In this video, I look at the Gamma TX4 250w Zoom, Starburst Pro 7x18w Par, Econ 6x18w RGBWA+UV Battery Powered Par.
These are a really solid, imported brand of lights that's been around for about 10 years. Instead of focusing on getting big and then making great lights, they took the opposite approach - they've engineered really solid lights at a really great cost, and now they're becoming more popular.
These aren't your brother's imported lights! It's really nice stuff!

    Yep, these beat all over my ADJ Focus 3z's for around the same price. Like how it narrows down to 5.5 degrees and has a frost filter. For the price this is where I'll look, but I do have my eyes on that Chauvet Hybrid for 1400 bucks. Thanks for the suggestion!

    @@dickfantastic7908 Recommend the Chauvet 140s. My company currently has 12 about to become 36. And we've slowly been phasing out 1/2 of our CP Sharpy inventory for them as they can be used on their own in small venues as a hybrid/spot unit and they can still hold their own as a beam/effect unit in large rigs. Not to mention for a fixture of that price range the optics are exceptional.

    As part of our lighting upgrade we want to replace the incandescent bulbs in our sanctuary chandeliers with wifi lamps to achieve better color and dimming capabilities. Each chandelier has 6 lamps and there are six chandeliers. Can you suggest a replacement lamp for this application?

  • @LearnStageLighting

    @LearnStageLighting

    2 жыл бұрын

    Not sure, that's outside of the kind of thing we typically do. The wifi aspect scares me a little, often using consumer-type products like that in a commercial setting where you have a LOT of them in a small space can cause issues.

    Hello! How many watts does a LED moving head has to have in order to keep up with a 7R lamp? For example a 360w LED BSW hybrid can have the same or more output as a 7R beam?

  • @LearnStageLighting

    @LearnStageLighting

    2 жыл бұрын

    A 360w LED is typically more, however, it really depends on how efficient the LED's and the optics are, LED's can really vary in efficiency.

    It really depends on the size of venues and stages you play - the GAMMA stuff starts at the "mid" level (maybe 500+ seats), if you're under that, look at the Eliminator Stealth series of lights.

    The Gamma TX14 250x looks exactly like the ArtFox Hybrid LED 250W, and when I view a lot of Gamma products on their website. I see a lot more of their fixtures that also look exactly like ArtFox fixtures. Gamma isn't a household name versus a Chauvet, ADJ or Elation, so what make Gamma better or as good as those vendors?

  • @LearnStageLighting

    You've done your research - great question. Here's the short list: 1) Customer support - I've talked with Gamma customers, and they are very happy with the fact that Gamma supports their product from the US, with people that speak English/Spanish as their primary languages. Artfox claims to do this, but if you dig into it, all their phone lines/email support appear to go directly to China. (Which in itself isn't necessarily a problem, but there are timezone, language, and cultural barriers that make solving problems difficult). 2) While 2 lights may look the same on the outside (and are likely made by the same OEM in China - I see Blizzard stuff on ArtFox's site as well), the insides are NOT going to be the same. I've spoken extensively with Gamma on this. When an OEM in China pitches the product to importers, they bundle together the features for the lowest cost possible. People like Gamma visit China often, and when new products are being developed they have them reworked with better power supplies, motors, and LED's. You'll see that Gamma isn't the lowest cost, but rather a nice light for a great price. 3) As I mention in the video, these lights are similar / slightly nicer than what you'd get from a Chauvet/ ADJ/Elation/Blizzard. I also highly appreciate that Gamma doesn't "model-flip" every year or so - they import a model for as long as they possibly can. That way, if you bought (2) lights last year, you can still get more of them this year. This also keeps the cost down as new product development is expensive... 4) Marketing: What impressed me most about Gamma is that they have taken the opposite approach to marketing compared to a lot of other importers. They've spent over 8 years working on getting the product right, and only really selling them within their network of peers. Now, they're starting to market slowly. A lot of other brands import their first product (and it has issues), and they turn on the marketing machine to full blast and sell a bunch of units. Then, a few years later, the lights break and the company disappears, and there's nothing you can do about it. I've seen a number of brands to this in the past 15 years. ArtFox turned the marketing on hard a few years ago, and I have seen and talked to a lot of people with broken ArtFox lights... Gamma may not be the right lights for you, but I really think they're worth a look. Hope that helps, -David

    @@LearnStageLighting Great responses. Response #1 I totally agree with all you highlighted which can either be a Pro or Con for me. I would also add with Artfox most of their products if you place an order ships directly from China which they quote you 30 days to receive, but it could be longer than that. But I like to be fair and honest as there is good in all lighting vendors no matter if they are in the US or overseas. So, I will say what I do like about Artfox is they give you travel cases for most if not all their products. And for Chauvet/ADJ/Elation and others you have to purchase travel cases which is a separate transaction/cost outside the actual purchase of the fixture, and for moving head fixtures a travel case can be expensive. I spoke with a Gamma person on yesterday and I plan to give them a try this year as I’m looking for other vendor fixtures outside of Chauvet/ADJ/Elation that are inexpensive to those vendors pricing but have good customer service and good quality. Appreciate the feedback responses and lighting info. DS Lighting Detrick

    I also spoke with them, and they informed me that it's actually a new model now. They have a lower cost TX4-150w Spot that doesn't zoom but was really close in price to this one, so they made the decision with their factory to upgrade the TX4-250 (what I reviewed) to the TX5. It has the same feature set, but nicer, brighter LED's and optics (about 30% brighter, a little wider zoom too). It did also increase the cost, but there's always the 150w if you're looking to save and don't need zoom.

    OR... For lights that are never moved around, just get cheap U-King lights with the same output level. They cost less than 1/4 of what those cost. I have a set of 4 in a mobile setup and even after tossing them into a box repeatedly when breaking down and setting up, they are still working great. Other than the power in and out (which is a nice feature) they have the same lighting features as those. I paid less than 100 dollars for a set of 4. Lights are cheap these days. There is little need to purchase expensive fixtures like these anymore. If you are a church setting up lighting, go with the lesser expensive fixtures and donate the rest of money to help someone in need. Stop wasting money on fancy stage setups.

    I'm gonna have to disagree with you here. I have used the U-King stuff, and the build quality, brightness and output of a U-King light is nowhere near what these guys are doing.
