Quakers are fun to have. I lost mine today. He was 16 years old. I will miss him. Never let anyone smoke anywhere near your bird. It will shorten their lives.

Reminds me of our Quaker Parrots. He said the same words, he was so smart. Not only poopy trained but would say poopies when my son passed gas. 😂 He would ruff when our dogs came into the room. I had him for 17 years and he ate, took a bath and must of had a heart attack. Miss him dearly. He said Hello Baby and I love you and kisses, I love kisses. Many other words too. ❤

My 14 year old Quaker, Quinn, and I just watched this. Our birds have a lot of the same habits and phrases. We say "gotta go potty?" and Quinn loves to follow up with "Good, good, good, good, good, good Quaker!"

Watching Casey reminds me of my own Quaker, Kiwi. He used to laugh, say "C'mere!", wolf-whistle, and give kisses. He'd even say thank you when you gave him one back! :3 I really miss him. He escaped a few months back, when my dumbass of a brother left the door open while he was working on his motorcycle. We didn't close the door on Kiwi's cage when anyone was home, so he just WALKED out the door. The real sucker-punch is that nobody bothered TELLING me he'd escaped until about a month after!

Sounds like kisses and at 0:29 sounds like 'hello' and at 0:31 "come 'ere" ^.^ My little girl is a blue quaker and she just turned a year old back in April and she calls my dog, whistles for her and is practicing more words ^.^ She finally got comfortable enough to start talking to me when out of the cage and when on my hand ^.^

I have a 26 year old bird named Fred. He's been through a lot of situations such as getting his leg slammed in a french door and hitting a fan. He is now blind, and can't fly. He can still hear me, and whenever I talk to him or click my tongue, he comes closer just to feel my hand. We once thought it was his time, he would't get up, he was barely breathing, nothing. But he got up about twenty minutes later, perfectly fine. The day he does finally pass away, I'll have lost a good friend.

That was too cute at the end, I have a quaker parrot which I have named Nitaru, he is the funniest thing when he gets to talking. He goes from kisses to FU in 3 seconds. really quite funny, cause usually after the FU he calls my cat. He will say here kitty kitty kitty kareena. I love this bird to death.

Basically just by repetition of words and phrases. It is also a good idea to try to link words to certain actions, such as, saying "Hello!" when you walk into the room or as soon as they wake up greet them with a "Rise and shine!". There is a possibility though that your bird (any talking bird) may not talk though. But that doesn't mean it will be a bad pet. My dad grew up next to some neighbors who owned an African Grey. The bird never talked, it just meowed and mimicked the doorbell. lol

It is harder to get 2 Quakers to talk or interact with you because they can either form very strong bonds with their owner, or with the otherr bird. I just recently bought one but I wasn't able to bring it home yet because it was still getting weened off its baby formula. Whenever I would hold it, it would basically ignore me and chirp to the other Quaker in its cage. It is only best to get 2 if you wont be around a lot to play with them.

Oh my gosh!! Your Casey is so smart & expressive! I used to have a ton of birds but since I relocated to a different state for school, I dont have any now but I hope to soon! I always tell people birds are like babies. The earlier & the more you talk to them, the more they pick up. Even if they dont respond, they KNOW what you're saying & will mimic eventually. I used to think a friend's bird ignored me but he now mimics the EXACT way I say hello to the point his owner thought I came over once!

I had a cockatiel that pooped on command. She used to hold her poop and call your attention if she needs to go. I would bring her to her designated pooping areas - very convenient and kept my furniture clean. If I'm not there, she would poop back in her cage.

@StevePinoyBoy: Something to remember is that Quakers are cage territorial. I have two that I raised by hand from ten days old and they're the loveliest things, but the moment they can see their cage they'll attempt to tear my fingers off.

If it is a male it will most likely learn to talk more abundantly than if you have a female, and thus may learn faster. My female began saying a few things before she was one year old. She is not two yet and has learned at least 5 phrases. She also dances to music and hsakes your hand when you ask her to. :) They are neat birds. The certainly have a personality.

Just thought I'd chime in on your questions. :] I would be very cautious about trying to introduce another bird. Especially if your bird has been solely bonded to you his whole life. I say this because I thought it would be nice for my lovebird to have a friend... and she wants to take his head off every chance she gets. So I now have 2 cages in my home and have to split up my time as evenly as I can. :( Not that that's a problem for me... I love them!

@WanderMono That is not true. If you've ever observed a nesting female, they will hold their defecation in for almost 24 hours at a time to avoid soiling the nest. They will hold it in all day and night until the male returns to sit on the eggs or chicks and will only then go outside and release. Males do this as well when they are the primary sitters. Nesting birds are designed to hold it in.
