When a stray gunshot left Mariam Pare' paraplegic at age 20, she was afraid to miss out on the thing she loved most: painting. Through occupational therapy, she learned how to use a pencil and paintbrush with her mouth. For the past 19 years Mariam has painted portraits, series and commercial work as a mouth painter. Her creative process is full of trial, error and joyous discoveries- no different than a normally abled artist. She is a member of the Mouth and Foot Painting Artists, a member-owned association that reproduces its artists work for profit. Learn more about the MFPA at www.mfpausa.com. She is so strong and elegant.
This is so uplifting! I've thought about movement and art as well. Not about paralysis, but in a similar vein when it comes to art and memory.
Mariam, you are a stunning example of the energy we commonly refer to as the human spirit. To say that you are an inspiration is an understatement. Thank you for giving us your love of art and above all life. God bless you!

I agree. Women are strong. But females on the pill aka steriods are weak. Real women don't take steriods aka the pill. A mans view. I feel a great sadness for her.

While this story is great to hear (as short as it is compared to your other videos) I can't help but wonder why you don't have any videos for the stories of the countless disabled women and THEIR quest for fashion and feeling good? For anyone reading this (hopefully the ladies running the channel), please humour me for a moment :) Imagine that instead of standing out of bed this morning, you got into a wheelchair. Would you suddenly not want to bathe, do your skincare routine, put your makeup on, and try to find an outfit that looks good? Of course you wouldn't. I would really love it if a positive and uplifting channel such as yours could help normalise the lives of women with disabilities. I've been a paraplegic for half of my life, since I was 18. I struggle with self body love, and get frustrated with crappy makeup just like all of you. I struggle to find pants that don't look ridiculous because I'm constantly sitting down, and tops that flatter my arms and hide the belly I've sadly grown over the years. I drive a car and have a job of sorts. I love my furbabies and think human babies aren't for me (thank goodness). I also have a wonderful partner who treats me like a woman. We have a great sex life, we argue, we make up, we laugh. We do all the things that normal couples do. Because I'm a normal woman. I just happen to use a wheelchair to get around. What do you say? There are loads of fashion-conscious disabled women wherever it's easiest for you to film, I bet they'll really appreciate having their voices heard :)
want to keep you in all my accounts on Google. ♡ love goes out 2 you! thankyou
