Hi, Bob And Brad. You two are to be admired for your very helpful rehab program.,I was strengthening my leg muscles before left foot surgery about 4 weeks ago. I needed a strong left leg since I will be on a scooter. I immediately went to the massage therapist in my Chiropracter’s office. Now I am ready for strengthening and will start with your exercises. All rehab for me is complicated by fibromyalgia. One symptom has always been weak muscle tone which I have fought against for years with swimming and mild weight training.

Hey guys, You do a fabulous job. I'm a PT of your era also, having graduated in 2002. Watching myself hiking and walking up stairs always made me wonder about that, "no knee past toes " idea. I recently looked up the research on it again, first time was like 2005, and was happy to see some clarification. It seems that as long as the hip and back control is good goong over the knees is not a problem. Again, check yoir knnes up stairs and while hiking. Again, that's for the good info, Darren

Hey may I ask did you still run after you've found out your quadriceps tendinitis? I guess I'm having exactly the same issue as you had 5 years ago. Running doesn't trigger the pain but bending does. I've been abandoned my leg days for 2 weeks now but I still run almost everyday and I just don't feel like to quit running 🥲 but at the same time I afraid that the quad tendinitis may not get better due to my running routine. pls tell me your experience about how to get better as a runner. Thx 😊 🙏

To do the eccentric squat I find that standing on the second to the bottom stair works well. You squat down as shown, then at the bottom you step down a step which essentially helps straighten the legs back out, with the straighter legs along with pulling up on the rail or post you can stand back up with little concentric force.

Hi Guys! Thanks so much for doing this video. Been having this issue for the longest time from cycling .. with your video and various other sources .. with some deduction .. figured the likely causes: 1) I'm not riding as regularly and hence likely muscles are weakening 2) I'm not as religiously doing stretches before each ride .. hence flexibility is compromised 3) I tend to do a lot of start-stops as I'm doing long distances riding .. often thru busy streets .. and I'm starting with my bike from stationery with my right leg bent. So the stress during each start is greater. Will start on the stretches and the strenthening excercises you've shown .. and hopefully will be able to enjoy those painless rides I used to have .. soon :)

What I thought was QT was actually a small stress reaction of the femur there! (had bone scan) not so common, I know. But the pain and swelling is back almost two years later because for the last year I’ve been dealing with strained medial hamstrings where they meet behind the knee and I guess quad is compensating and overworked.

Thanks for the great video. I subscribed and will watch many more of your videos. So I am a tennis player and developed tendinitis above my left knee about a year ago. It felt like a tear when it happened but two doctors visits and some xrays later said there was no tear, although I did not have an MRI. It's gotten 90% better since but has plateaued. I ice, take Advil, heat, stretch, slow squats, massage, use a pulsing mechanism, but it's just not getting better. I have full strength with my legs straight but as I go down to say bending my knees about 30 degrees from the straight position, I lose nearly all of my strength. I play tennis regularly but cannot stop and switch directions quickly (that's how I hurt it in the first place), which is why I play more doubles these days. I had taken some serious time off but it didn't really help. What do you recommend I do? Thank you

The bike and eliptical irritate it (actually those are what caused this to begin with) and I don't have access to a pool. Would just a brisk walk on a flat surface be ok? Or does cardio needed eliminated completely?

So I tore my quad about 3-4 weeks ago. I'm finally able to put some weight on it. But I still can't do any of these exercises. I think the main reason is because I've had multiple hip replacements and hip surgeries on the same side as the quad tear. So it would be hard to do these exercises without the tear because of all the surgeries. Is there any other exercises recommended I can do? Or am I basically stuck until it heals up on it's own?

+physicaltherapyvideo Thanks for replying back! Sorry to bother you guys again but I forgot to mention these details. I didn't do any exercises for a period of one month since I had gastritis. Everything felt normal until, as mentioned, I did a one-legged knee bend with all my weight on it. Afterwards, it would hurt whenever I bend it in a certain angle and always at that angle (around 45 degrees). The pain is towards the top of the kneecap (maybe in the quadriceps tendon?) and at times it feels like under my kneecap (but still on the upper part). What do you think I can do in the mean time since resting seemed to not fully heal it? You guys said it could be nothing serious so do you think i can rule out an acl or meniscus tear? Sorry for asking a lot of questions....

That's what I have now, Sue. Wore a brace for 4 weeks. Knee seems improved, but still "puffiness" to the outside area above knee -- edge of quadriceps and the patellar retinaculum.

I have chronic quad tendonosis in my right knee and chronic patella tendonosis in my left. I have a few questions if you don't mind. 1) I had a flare up today, mainly had a pain response and weakness but no real inflammation. Would you recommend waiting a few days before doing the strengthening exercises, muscle work and stretching? 2) I live in a remote part of Scotland and the nearest physio is over 2 hours away, may I contact you by email for some help with putting together a routine? thank you for the video nonetheless

no problem. I have a few questions though. When trying to balance quad and patella tendonopothy how would you recommend balancing the exercises? I am doing eccentric squats on a slanted board for the patella tendon and am doing drop squats on a 1.5 inch block for the quad (the one in the video) throughout the week, So usually I work the quad tendon one day and the patella tendon the other day. But I am not sure if this is working because my quad tendon has been hurting more. How would you recommend balancing these exercises because surely I would work the tendons in the same way whilst doing the eccentrics as they are both eccentric exercises? Also whilst doing the eccentrics, I wouldn't say its a sharp pain but I can really feel it when squatting down, is this ok? Thanks

I know of a few people that claim they have cured their long standing quadriceps tendinosis by first resting and then incorporating a VERY deep squat regimen. This seems counter intuitive but can you think of how that would be a remedy? Thanks!

I've stopped sports activity since two months, stop using my injured leg and do some leg isometric exercises but it didn't work, I don't understand what should I do. please help me sir.

I was in a cycle/truck crash where my left quad was cut/torn at a 45 degree angle from the top of my kneecap about 3 1/2 inches towards my femur and my quad tendon ruptured. The doctor had my leg in a brace for around 3 weeks before I started sleeping without it and soon ditched it altogether. I have zero trouble keeping my leg straight and it seems fairly robust, plus I'm walking around 2km day. The thing for myself is when can I begin trying to bend the knee, it can bend a few degrees but I'm hesitant to get aggressive at all with it. I'm in Chiang Mai, Thailand, and the surgeon seems reluctant to give me any time line. I'm 66 but have been a competitive cyclist for 35 plus years, and so far the other surgeons, one for my compound fracture of my forearm and my neurosurgeon, for my skull injury have been astounded at the pace of my recovery, my head is fully recovered, as is the arm, including not requiring a skin graft...

@Wasian Blasian I actually cured my issue with running. Light 1-2-3 mile jogs slowly built the muscle back and put less of a strain on the quad.
