Qatar World Cup Chief Reveals Migrant Workers Death Toll To Piers Morgan

Ойын-сауық

World Cup boss Hassan Al-Thawadi tells Piers Morgan 400-500 migrant workers have died as a result of work done on projects connected to the tournament.
In an exclusive interview the Qatar World Cup Chief opened up on how many people have died as a result of work done on projects connected to the tournament, what the situation is like for gay people in Qatar and how the tournament is bringing together fans from all over the world.
Al-Thawadi says that part of the 400-500 migrant workers to die, there have been three work-related deaths and 37 non work-related deaths specific to the construction of World Cup stadiums.
He tells Piers that Qatar has been transparent over the number of deaths but 'improvements have to be made'.

I am certain that if people visited the ME region, spent time on the ground and were open enough to understand the culture, they will find themselves questioning the beliefs/views they held previously. You have to have a firm belief of something being wrong, when the higher power says it is wrong. And unfortunately, the west today doesn’t have a clear picture of what’s morally acceptable and what’s not. If that’s being ahead 30 or so years! I’d rather hang back and let them stay ahead. But as the Quran states in Chapter 109; [ Say, “O disbelievers, I do not worship what you worship. Nor are you worshippers of what I worship. Nor will I be a worshipper of what you worship. Nor will you be worshippers of what I worship. For you is your religion(beliefs) and for me is mine(beliefs)”]

@@nicholascoldicott9569 it's not really complicated; 1) The Qatari explained that "any public display of affection" is not in line with social norms and culture irrespective of whether it was heterosexual or homosexual (i.e. what people do behind closed doors is their business and not the government's concern). Seems like it answers the 'gays on the street' question quite well. 2) Piers made a very good argument in the beginning about migrants; All of these workers are given substantially better lives and money to support their families back home. I've lived in Dubai, most of the labour workers quite literally come from slums with a horrible life expectancy and no capability to support their wives or children. Yes the deaths are unfortunate but the alternative is to let the labourers and their families literally die from poverty back home. Qatar simply cannot afford to hire the same number of migrants and yet give them all comfortable lives. They can either hire 'less workers' and up the pay scale at the expense of bringing over less migrants (and thereby helping less people and dooming the rest to a fate worse than death) or help as many as they can with a better livelihood. Everything is relative, hence for the west to criticise Qatar is hypocritical considering practically no Western country cares or helps these poor workers.

I`m a woman from Poland and I believe that other nationalities should be respected, especially when they host such a big event like this. This isn`t the time for political correctness, fighting with arguments and domination of one's own views over other people. Qatar has been drawn and the most important thing is that everyone who decides to go there must be safe. Since it`s a Muslim country, you have to be aware that there are different rules than in Great Britain. For me it`s easier to understand, because in my country the right of an individual can`t exceed the right of society, faith, culture. It is true that Poland is a Catholic country (churches are almost everywhere), but I understand the idea of not showing intimacy in public places, provoking others isn`t a good idea. We Poles are always serious, everyone is busy with their own thoughts and problems, holding hands isn`t eye-catching, but the rest of feelings you can show your other half are distasteful, inappropriate. What you do in the privacy of your own homes is your business. Society must abide by certain rules... and violating them can result (at its mildest) in a sharp exchange with someone who will be disturbed by the misbehavior. Freedom can`t be without limits... people need to know what they can and can`t do. Let's start the discussion with what unites us and then we can try to talk about what divides us and why. Let's respect each other, let's get to know each other, let's use this time for something positive.

Regardless it isnt just GB reacting badly to this I hope you atleast try to keep up with football news, Denmark is already considering leaving FIFA. I have to say, I've never been a fan of Piers but his impartial and informative coverage of this particular topic has been brilliant and simply refreshing. Western media outlets, particularly in the UK have been absolutely disgraceful and tactless in what seems like outright smearing of this special event. We all know they don't give a donkey's ass about human rights or migrant workers and one can only speculate as to what the underlying agendas could be but it doesn't take a genius to connect the dots. Hats off to Qatar too, they've done an amazing job on ALL levels for this world cup. They really seized the opportunity to not only showcase Islamic and Arab culture for what it truly is, but the infrastructure and organisation from day 1 has been at the highest level, they've really set the bar! Let's see how the word cup in the US looks like next 🤣 . Well done to Qatar and congrats to the Qatari people!

"Between 4 and 5 hundred people were killed". Wow. Imagine having to guess to the nearest hundred people!!!. In civilised countries every single death on a building site is recorded by the national health and safety authority and thoroughly investigated and prosecutions made where appropriate. The statistics are maintained and used to inform revised legislation if appropriate. For this man, as Quatar World Cup chief, to have to guess to the nearest hundreds of people killed on his construction sites, that is unbelievable and honestly convinces me more than the original 6000 number, that they dont care one bit for the lives of those dead migrant slaves.

Living in Qatar as an expat for 8 years so far. This is a very safe country, very welcoming to families, free medical care if you are a resident or lower payment for private clinics as compared to my home country. Extremely low gas prices, extremely low public transportation costs, no taxes on salary, there are areas where you can find very affordable accommodation, places where it is extremely cheap to eat, and places of worship for Christians. The Christian community here is large. Qatar is very respectful and very open to expats like us. My family has lived here for many years now, and many other families when they go back home to our country, they wanted to come back. I read that the workers in Qatar were not allowed to work during the peak sunny hours in summer. And I was so shocked how a country is so understanding of basic human needs. Cuz my husband is a truck driver here in Canada and he tells me stories of how truckers are treated literally like slaves. You can’t speak up about injustices and even in winter when the roads are icy you can’t give an excuse to not go to work. And many drivers die because of that. This winter his fellow driver 24 years old passed away from such an incident. The west needs to take a look into their own policies first and learn from Qatar.

I was in Qatar for a week watching the World Cup. Hats off to the Qataris for putting on a great show. Don’t believe anything that’s being shown in the western media. Qatar was fairly liberal and very less restrictions.
