Q68. What are must-have things to carry on a self-drive trip to Ladakh or Spiti Valley? (Top 40)

Are you looking out for a list of things to carry on a self-drive road trip to Ladakh or Spiti Valley or any other remote place in the Himalayas?
There are so many things that you can think of carrying on your self-drive Ladakh trip or Spiti Valley self-drive trips.
Nowadays many people are interested in making a Ladakh Self Drive Trip in their cars and eager to know about how to prepare their vehicle for a trip to Leh - Ladakh. Every day I receive numerous questions related to a self-drive tour to Ladakh.
Travelers are interested to know about what must have things they must carry in their cars as they drive to remote corners of Leh Ladakh, and on desolated roads of Manali - Leh Highway. They are also interested to know about how to prepare their car for a Ladakh self-drive trip and any other precautions.
I have categorized this list of things to carry on Ladakh self-drive trip into the below categories to ease out for you.
1. Puncture Repair & Battery Issues: One of the things that can easily go wrong on any Himalayan trip is a puncture or battery issue. You should go prepared for it on a self-drive trip to Ladakh.
2. Fuel Issues & Refills is the next category of things you should take care of on your road trip to Ladakh as there aren't a lot of petrol pumps available up there.
3. Getting stuck in Water Crossings, Slush or Mud can be a real thing when you travel to places like Ladakh, Spiti, Zanskar, or Pangi Valley. You should go prepared with a list of things that will help you in these situations.
4. Don't forget things related to Windshield Issues & Patch Up Work as they may bail you out in multiple situations.
5. Lack of Availability of Car Spares, you may carry these spares on Ladakh trip because even if you find a mechanic or someone to help you if you do not have a spare then they cannot really help.
6. Other Miscellaneous or Multi-purpose Items that can help you with the various situations not just limited to your Ladakh self-drive road trip.
If you need more information about these things to carry on a self-drive trip to Leh-Ladakh or Spiti Valley, then continue reading my detailed article at the link devilonwheels.com/40-must-hav...

    Hi Dheeraj, Thanks for an amazing video for the amateurs and the professionals alike! One of the most important things that I guess you forgot to mention is carrying a medicine kit along with an OTC medicine available for AMS. I read about it and consulted a few people and they say it helps in treating/ preventing AMS to an extent. How about carrying a sleeping bag! Just a suggestion! Thanks Sajal

  • @discoverwithdheeraj

    @discoverwithdheeraj

    2 жыл бұрын

    Thanks Sajal, I planned to keep this list only for self-drive items and mostly for recommendation of medicine I stay away because I know that AMS medicine is known for side effects which can be serious even for people allergic to sulpha drugs. So, I refrain from recommending without any authority on subject and ask my readers/subscriber to always consult the doctor. And thanks for suggesting the sleeping bag.

    IT should be fine to show digilocker ones. In any case as long as you have sales receipt and can show that the car is personal it is fine. Also, this year they are mighty booked with taxis so I doubt no one will care on private cars and stop them.

  • @discoverwithdheeraj

    @discoverwithdheeraj

    3 жыл бұрын

    Well you can take a Santro up there in Leh Ladakh but there will be challenges for sure. I will recommend that you travel from Srinagar side to get used to the route conditions and then within Ladakh. By the time you plan to return you will know how comfortable you are driving in these road conditions and can return from Manali - Leh Highway if you feel confident. If you feel that so far roads have been very very challenging then better avoid Manali Leh Highway and come back from Srinagar Leh itself in worst case. Srinagar to Leh also helps in better acclimatization. Since you are using a hatchback, I will highly recommend that you check my video on important self-drive tips for taking small car to Ladakh: kzread.info/dash/bejne/fphhmKSgibypibw.html

    Awesome bhai then in that case you know the drill and since you have experience with mountain driving then going via Manali Leh will not cause much issues with such experience. Try to leave early in the morning each day to tackle less water in the water crossings. Most of them now have bridges over it, so you shall be fine for most part of the Manali Leh Highway.

Remember travel light, don’t take iron rods n all, you will surely get creative and innovative . Remember the more weight you carry the more fuel gets burned , chances of getting stuck , breaking your axles , skidding etc be smart. This is a good list but choose wisely.
