Our Father and Mother had 8 children. Five Boys first, then 3 Girls. I'm the youngest, at almost 71 years. There are only three of us left now. A Brother who is 81 now, my oldest Sister will be 78, and the last Sister, me, soon to be 71. I was lucky enough to get the Old Home Place. I will be here until I die. We garden, have fruit trees, berries of many sorts, and Nut trees. We have a nice pond and timber trees, all on near 5 acres. We divided the property, each getting almost 5 acres. All of us children worked hard. Our Father died when I was 10 months old. The oldest Brother was 15. We raised our own food, canned it and my Brothers hunted for meat. Life was hard. I got my Social Security Card at the age of 9. Walked to catch the truck, to ride to the Bean fields, at 4 in the morning. We got home near dark. We were paid a dollar a bushel. We used our money for school clothes & a pair of shoes. Our Father was a Veteran of World War 1. Our Mother received $150.00 a month, from the Government, for 8 children. There were no Foodstamps available yet. When one reached 18 years old, the money was lowered. All my Brothers Served our Country. Yes it was hard, but we survived. One hour in the garden, the children could accomplish a lot. It teaches so much. Math, science, biology, and more. Our Mother used to ask us how many Green Beans it took to fill a quart jar. The discussion was lively and in the end, we knew how many quarts of Green Beans we could get from a bushel! Then there were Cucumbers, Beets, Okra, & Tomatoes. How many ears of Corn, cut from the cob, does it take to fill a quart jar, a Pint jar? The time passed fast, as we discussed these questions. The WEEDS disappeared! Plants mulched. Then it was bath time! We caught rain water for that! We could also draw water from the well. On occasion we walked several miles away to the River to go swimming! It made us all better people. GOD bless

There is a novel series in this post. Very rich and full foundation but definitely no red carpet. Your post actually reminded me of a magazine called Reminisce. Hope you check it out. If so, would love to hear your feedback.

@@MISNM0 I will check that out. I'm not sure I understand what the red carpet means. Maybe high class? In that case, no, I was just more or less, thinking, typing out loud. I tend to ramble. I always hope that something I say might help someone else. Our Mother only finished 8th grade in school, but she was a VERY smart woman! Teaching children doesn't always mean doing it in a classroom setting. I think that was what I was trying to get across. She taught us math and so much more out in the garden. She taught us how to make do with what we had. She taught us how to complete a task. She actually taught us to learn to enjoy our work, whatever that might be. Thank you for your comment, and if you get the opportunity, elaborate on that Red Carpet! GOD bless

@@ritamccartt-kordon283 What you witnessed was a joke failure. My apologies for that. 😋 You were right in that the red carpet reference was high class. I was trying to say there was no red carpet reality in what you wrote- though it sounds like you did grow up wealthy in love And education. I love the kind words you said about your Mother. A parent wants the best for their children and it sounds like she provided that and now you can shine that light back on her. It's truly special.❣ I do genuinely hope you record some of these moments verbally or otherwise, as able. They really are precious and from a time and pace that deserves to be remembered well (though plenty was "wrong" with the "good old days" in every generation.) To me the 'rambling' comes across more as loving sentiment. You're recalling a beautiful life experience and it brings all That from your heart to the world. Please don't change that about yourself. (Hope this helps but can try to do better again. I too, ramble.) 😉

@@MISNM0 Thank you for replying! I have often thought of writing about my life. I just had never thought that anyone would want to read it. Your kind words make me again want to put it down on paper. In this day and age of the computer and cell phones, I still value my books. Maybe if I get something on paper I can leave it to my family. Maybe they will find it interesting. I should go through my "Tablets". I have a stack of tablets with many written conversations with my Aunts, on both my Mother's side and my Father's side of the family. I guess I should be hurrying this project along! I'm no spring chicken! Thank you again. It means something to me that you responded. I appreciate it. GOD bless

As a human who was raised in a legalistic Christian home, I am grateful that your children will have the opportunity to explore with critical thinking skills the options of what each person actually understands are beliefs each individual will have. I have also had some gut issues, and have reduced what I eat to those things I cook from scratch. My brother asked yesterday why I don't eat anything I don't cook from scratch, and I told him that I feel so much better when I eat things without food dye and preservatives. It doesn't mean that I can't occasionally eat those things (I did at the family reunion yesterday), but my body is happier with a cleaner diet. Please take care of yourself and get plenty of rest. Harvest season will soon be upon us - I'm going to the local orchard to get strawberries this week - and that will be difficult with an expanding waistline. I need to sweep up the dog hair this morning, and prepare Sunday dinner for my family. I think we are having what my eldest calls spicy chicken today (it contains nutmeg and ginger in the breading) with a green salad. I need to grab some mint to make iced tea (none of us needs extra sugar, and the mint sweetens it enough that I don't add any to my iced tea). I love cooking meals for my family that show that I pay attention when they specifically request something.

Sunday mornings are for coffee and Jessica. I wish we could have a little house with small piece of land. But to have that I will have to put my kid on school and go to work. So for now I garden in containers in my rental house. So far I have been canning all the tomatoes and paste for the whole year. Farmers around me have been very generous with me and the ladies trade my skill with sewing for strawberries and greens or whatever is on season. For the last two winters I had enough produce in storage for my family of three.

My favorite vlogger. I keep praying for you, your baby, Adam and all of your children. I started cooking from scratch after my husband started having food allergies after the treatments for a brain tumor. He died 12 years ago. I teach several kids who are homeschooled. My ladies Bible class showed there was a need for someone who could teach higher level classes. I get one on one time with kids who have a passion for learning. God has given me a gift for Autistic children. As I am considered (or documented) as a Savant. I have so much respect for you, Adam and your family. I pray for God to continue to Bless all of you.

I had a benign and rare pituitary tumor that was making me go blind and would have eventually killed me per what the doctor said. I was a single mom at the time I underwent surgery. I had a partial resection of the tumor and my vision is back, but my pituitary died and all naturally produced hormones with it. I’m on over 14 medications, steroids being one of them and I am also trying to find a way to become healthy too. To add to it the steroids cause diabetes, I’ve made it back to a pre diabetes stage, my kidneys tanked, but now I’ve been able to bring them up to 50%. I have Meniere’s Disease and I get vertigo and dizziness. It underscores how fragile life is and how much of a fighter I am. Congratulations on your pregnancy!❣️

I've had crohns disease since I was a young girl so it's all I know. I've had all but one metre of my intestine removed over the years. I also have constant kidney stones, raynauds, arthritis clotting but also near fatal bleeds, aspergers, anemia, short bowel syndrome, extensive venous damage etc etc. Twelve years ago when I was 32 my life long specialists gave me two years at the most to live which was realistic considering my extensive health history. I was unlucky to get such a mass of other illnesses and near fatal complications. I can't even remember how many times I've been resuscitated. I believe that I have not yet accomplished my full purpose so God gave me the miracle of living so far 10 years longer than expected. I already know that you have a complete understanding of what your body needs by how you talk and your other videos and that puts you at an advantage. If you ever want someone to talk to that understands just message me. I wish you all the best. Xx

@@JESUSistheTRUTH-ROBLOX why are you assuming that I'm not walking with the Lord? A positive and supportive Christian would look at my comment and say the Lord is with her and through Him she has been given a miracle of extra years. You make it sound like my illness is because I'm a sinner. Two guys broke into my house this week and I immediately thought that maybe they had a family to feed and they were desperate for money so I asked them if I could help them in some way. So even at a time when I was absolutely terrified my first thought was to help another fellow human. Of course I'm not perfect but my health story is a testimony to those who question if God exists. I think that maybe you need to think about how to talk to others about your belief instead of implying that someone is a sinner and therefore has caused a bad/negative event or situation. You will reach more people with this approach.

My homeschooled grandkids (age 14 & 16) wanted to try public school again last year. It lasted 7 weeks and they hated it. They had gone to public elementary school for early ed and were more than happy to leave it. They both graduated in January and finished one semester of college in May.

My son has ulcerative colitis, a relative of your Crohn’s disease. He maintains a very strict regimen and essentially, eats no “white” food, I.e., flour, refined sugar, rice, potato, bread, pasta, etc. Basically, he eats protein and vegetables. His UC remains in remission. I so admire his adherence to his diet, it is difficult at times. He is fortunate that his lovely wife cooks to his needs, using for example, honey as sweetener, almond flour, etc. it was interesting to hear of your family’s dietary needs. It is not easy but you seem to juggle it well.

My oldest has allergies as well, then with my 2nd I drastically changed my lifestyle & diet , now the rest of the children are allergy free☺️ I really believe if the mother has a healthy gut the baby most likely will as well.. I love your style of cooking❤️

Hello there, just found your channel today and subscribed. First impressions- cozy, homey, down to earth, peaceful, relatable....😊 Thanks for the Q and A, it gave me an nice overview of your life and family. I loved your thoughts about gardening and how it fits into your life, as well as your comments about your children and letting them read the Bible and come to their own convictions on non salvation issues. I think that you are showing a lot of wisdom. I'm a homeschool momma to 4 and I can tell that I am going to really enjoy your channel. God bless! 😊 Rachael F.

I have Crohn's disease too. I was diagnosed as a teenager and the doctor had me try many different medications that never worked for me and only made things worse. I finally got mine under control by my diet as well. I still have a few flare ups throughout the year but it's nowhere near as bad as the flare ups used to be.

My son had FPIES when he was younger. I had undiagnosed multiple sclerosis when I was pregnant with him and I'm convinced the inflammation from my body cause his allergies.

Love your video. Each child is unique and I agree it is better to let them find their own way. Spiritually it is still our responsibility to guide them. You are setting a very good example for them and God will bless you and your husband. I do have a question..do you sew your dresses or purchase them? I live in a rural area and Wal-Mart is it! I may look for a pattern. Thank you!

Interesting, anaphylaxis has guided my adult life. It was sudden onset in the early 80s, almost died but made it through. So much of what most people take for granted is not feasible for me. Your son is so lucky to have a family that adjusts to his necessities, I was not so lucky, but have managed to survive and make a life for myself. I am also lucky that one person shares the struggle, providing me with a new family.

We couldn't grow anything because of the clay soil and whatever the previous owners dumped in the ground, so this year we built above ground beds and used cattle panels, and everything is growing really good. And yes, the soil we got was just like you, local and premium, but I've had to fertilize to bring it up better. We live in mid Michigan.

My children have also complained about how much school work I'm asking them to do. It's typically 1-1.5 hours. We've talked about how long a normal school day lasts vs what they're being asked to do. We also talk about homework they would be expected to complete in the evenings. One of our major reasons for continuing to homeschool is that my husband is a teacher and once he gets home around 3:30-4:00, the evenings are family time. We don't have to waste hours doing homework because our school work is done before he gets home.

Thank you for this Q&A! I really enjoyed your explanation regarding Christian convictions. I was raised in a Pastors home and forced to follow the convictions of my parents but didn’t understand it for myself. As a young adult and young parent I tried to find a balance, like you, and explain to my children why I followed certain things. My children are grown now and we have all grown in our own walk with the Lord. We are very close and talk about everything. I cherish that!

I can relate to you on the old farmhouse. Ours was built in 1910, and there have been two major additions. It is a bit choppy and odd. But we love living here. In the middle of Kansas, on 13 acres with chickens, a garden, fruit trees. I want so badly to raise our own beef.
