I wasn’t born on a homestead, but I had chores. After waking up, our beds were made. I’m one of 5 and we all did the same thing, each had something…vacuum, dusting, dishes, laundry…etc….all of us. Just bc your a boy doesn’t mean you didn’t do dishes, vacuum or laundry.

Problem is it seems a lot of parents nowadays let their kids not do any type of responsibility chores. I see kids bombarded with after school sports and activities and still expect their parents to give them money for doing things they should be doing anyway just because it’s a responsibility they should be taught. I’m glad I have chores that were my responsibility. That taught me about responsibility.

We had thirteen on a homestead growing up on a very self sustainable farm...and you balance so much so well. Your tiredness doesn't seem as aging as others with large families....you stay so young looking and calm about motherhood for eight. You are so blessed.

We all need to realise that we all can only do what’s right for US. One single father told me after my firstborn arrived, he said “keep your child busy enough to prevent them from getting into mischief”. He meant out of trouble. I think you’re doing a great job Jessica, and it shows in your children’s behaviour. Thank you for sharing with us. God bless you, your husband and all your children. 🌹Rosie of Oz🇦🇺 & 🐶Omega the Cavalier🐶

My husband is the oldest in his family. Him and his siblings had chores, but he did the bulk of them (not because he was assigned them, but his siblings wouldn't help and he recognized the importance of the chores being done). There is a distinct difference between him and his siblings in their maturity and their ability to function as adults in the real world. You are doing your children a massive favor by teaching them the importance of hard work.

I like how you talk about chores and its importance. I am the only girl and have 4 brothers, but growing up most of the chores would be my responsibility (which I found unfair). God willing when I have my own children I will not leave all the chores to one child!❤

Food allergy topic- I think it's great that most of your meals are prepared and ate at home aside from the occasional "treat" outings. My family does not have any allergies but we still eat almost exclusively at home lol. Between the size of my family, rising cost of foods, and overall health, we choose to eat at home. I also foster children and currently have 2 additional boys in my home who technically receive the free lunch at school but we still pack every day. The options are so much healthier- which is important in this placement especially because healthy foods were not ever offered to them. They're discovering foods and it's so amazing to watch their love for fruit develop! Creating a healthy food relationship with children is so so important as it follows us into adulthood and we all know so many adults do not make good choices with food.

Jsssica, it is a beautiful thing that in the same way you kept your eldest son safe from things that could harm him, he is now able to do that for himself. For all of your children, this will extend to all areas of their lives. Well done Momma, well done.

I have been very surprised at all of the "older" mother's on KZread this year or two that are in their very early 40's. You all have been able to keep up with your large families, seem to handle your pregnancies so well, appear to have a fast recovery and I just want to recognize you and them as awesome women. I think you are amazing. Thank you for your many videos, the teaching that you have done and what I have learned from you and just getting to know you as a person. The other thing is how supportive your husbands are and how helpful and loving to the wives and all the children. I love seeing all of this. Thank You so much. Great answer about home schooling vs. punny school. Teachers aren't teaching, they're intruding in areas they have no business. Please don't respond to people who assume that your husband doesn't pull his weight. My husband was in the military for 25 years and out to sea 3-9 months at a time. I worked full-time outside the home, raised dogs, cats, ducks and chickens, mowed, shoveled, gardened and made our home run smoothly and my husband provided in the background. God has blessed you. Stayed strong. I'm covering your entire family in prayer.

Thankful for this slower season on our homestead as well! Last preserving day today, pears! We laid down the landscape fabric you have in your amazon store this year for our peppers, tomatoes and viney plants and it was amazing! I still had to try to keep up the potatoes, onions, strawberries but much more manageable. I also successful have my first gallon of apple cider vinegar sitting on my shelf and it looks beautiful! I only have three kids, but I have a fifteen year old and a 27 month old, too and I couldn't agree more! I find myself feeling ridiculous sometimes in switching mom brains and the time and space it takes to do so, lol. The first year and a half at least was quite difficult in the transformation! I know you hear it all the time, but you are truly inspiring to me and I appreciate your videos very much!

God bless you all. You have an amazing amount of grace & patience. I was shocked by some of the questions/comments people make. Not that you don't rightfully get upset but you are such a lady. Your family is just precious. Thank you for sharing with us and challenging us to be better people. Prayers over all of you. Hang in there mama.

I always wanted a large family, unfortunately my husband passed away when we were very young and I didn't ever remarry. You are so blessed with all of your beautiful children. As a vegan and an atheist there are a thousand things in your life that would not be a good fit for me, or that I would not choose to do. I like your channel because I do a lot of home cooking, foraging and canning. I still respect that you are doing what you believe is best for your children and my opinion is only important to me. Very best wishes!
