You see, while the Chinese version of PvZ 2 definitely has more content (a lot of them I wish we had in the international version), the developers behind the Chinese version prioritize quantity over quality even more than the international version, so a lot of the exclusive content feel very rushed and unfinished, especially the worlds. If you want more details about this version, I'd recommend watching a few overanalysis of the exclusive Zombies and Plants done by Flag Zombie.

I agree, we all know that Matt creates and spends money for us to enjoy seeing.

Hey Matt - you'd be surprised by how much more content the Chinese edition holds. Each plant has 5 tiers and each tier unlocks a new ability that makes the plant more powerful! The translates are pretty accurate so I'd recommend spending some time looking through them as money can buy you A LOT OF OVERPOWERED STUFF in this version of pvz2. Once you complete Ancient Egypt, you'll unlock a ton of new content including a place where you set up your own "garden formation" and invade other player's gardens with your own zombies and win lots of prizes! There are also plant comboes in this game, so you're absolutely right about how it's similar to battle cats! Try not to miss daily login rewards as those give you lots of free gems and goodies :D

this would be really cool just as it's own series along with the normal pvz2. I've played the pvz games since they came out and I've seen so many different versions, but this would make for a really interesting series in my opinion. small edit: the matching mini-game used to be in the normal version as well but got removed for some reason. I always thought it was pretty cool.

here are some translation notes! though you could get around this game using just google translate with no problem lol - google slightly butchered the 'good things' part in the first dialogue, i think what dave's saying is 'perhaps we can find a lot of good stuff here‘ to which penny says 'i don't know if there's good stuff (here)' - the travel log is called travel Log (原木, literally 'raw wood'), so the pun there is fully lost - omg the monkiwi!!! the name of the unit is just kiwi in chinese, which is literally 'monkey peach'. the design is based on the monkey king sun wukong from the classic novel 西游记 (xīyóujì, Journey to the West), specifically the animated show depiction, with that headband and the red staff with yellow ends. every chinese person under 25 has probably seen that show as a kid hahaha

while not being Chinese, Pvz2 CN was also a part of my childhood (international ver too before the mess they added after modern day) I just revisit this game a week ago and I must say, this version nowadays is very new player friendly "new player friendly" for being generous with giving out strong plants and gem, back then, they didn't give us free Cactus like nowadays anyway, you might notice the plant has a color frame, it's actually their tier Gold > Purple > Blue > Green > Gray and Cactus is a Gold plant, he is very strong as a starter as a Chinese "gacha" game, the good thing is as long as you spend time, you can get everything for free for example, every plant can be unlocked with 10 puzzle pieces, you can get the puzzle pieces from the "loot box", event or daily login you can also exchange 2 to 5 pieces for a different higher-tier puzzle piece (although this is RNG, I was able to unlock a Gold tier plant using this) --------------------- also, this game did change a lot of the plant power and ability for example, Electric Blue Berry is pretty weak in this version, while aloe is much more powerful than international And my favorite thing is, Costume isn't useless it gives every plant a unique buff (mostly changes their plant food power)

Wow, I remember years ago looking up plants vs zombies 2 and came across the Chinese version and I was shocked by the thumbnail because the plants looked so different, so I was curious and found myself seeing this version as a such unique and diverse version to what is available to us here in the US. I would love to see you play more of this version and unlock the unique plants, level them up, and see the different abilities they can do as it gets pretty wild, and what you saw was only the tip of the iceberg. If you can't though that is completely understandable, but awesome videos nonetheless, now I wanna watch more PVZ 2 Chinese edition videos. Haha. 😅

It's insane what you had to do to get the game running. I did stuff like that too a couple of times, just to get what I really wanted from where I live. Still can't believe I did it, lol. Right after getting the job done, my brain is like "Naaah, someone else did it, I'm not that smart"

I always wondered what the Chinese version of pvz2 is like and this is so cool! I would definitely watch a series of this. Tbh you are also tempting me to get into battle cats.

This game is actually really different from the normal version. For example costumes actually aren't purely cosmetic, they can buff stuff.

Hey Matt, just wanna tell you that when I played this, peashooter + torchwood was my main strat, level 4 peashooter was nothing to mess around with in this game

In the Chinese version of PVZ2 they kept some of the past updates like the matching and the stars of difficultly

Cattail got deleted in PvZ 2, cause it's already changed to homing thistle in PvZ 2 and cattail only capable to plant on water in PvZ 1 while homing thistle can be planted on earth but can't be planted on water which make homing thistle better than Cattail, cause the world that have water is only BWB(Big Wave Beach) in PvZ 2 which will make cattail not worth it in PvZ 2, so the point is Cattail didn't got deleted but it got changed to Homing Thistle and if you look at how Homing Thistle works, it works the exact same like Cattail, that's why there's no Cattail in PvZ 2

Since you enjoy seeing differences between versions I'd recommend you try out Plants vs Zombies 2 version 1.6, the world structure is very different

Fun fact the matching game was actually in the original PVZ 2 but I guess they took it out since I payed last

Matt, the Vase breaker thing you saw isnt actually vase breaker. Its a luck based mini game where you can break 1 or a few vases at once and then have to wait a bit until you can do it again, its a really good way to unlock rare plants though.

Damn.never thought I’d see Matt Shea play pvz2c one day😳,as someone who used to play it it’s a shame that a lot of new contents are really hit or miss,on one hand you have kung fu world,one of my most favourite pvz2 worlds(even compared to the pvz2 international ones),but on the other hand you have something like steam age,which is just a buggy mess of unpolished mechanics…nevertheless it’s still interesting to see how Matt would react to all the new plants and worlds! Btw,pvz2c is kinda notorious in the Chinese community for having a lot of ridiculously hard stages compared to the international version,so Matt if you want to continue playing pvz2c you might wanna consider start grinding plant pieces or cosmetics…

And I think 5 new worlds! FIVE

the Hard Mode of many levels in Adventure mode is extremely difficult to impossible without leveled up plants watch out for Dark Ages, that's where it will really start ramping up also, I recommend unlocking worlds in the order on the world map, and don't unlock them until you've just about finished all the levels you can, you'll thank me later.

In pvz2, blover got a HUGE buff, being that knockback plants like levitater and chard guard exist. If you time a blover placement correctly, you can insta-kill any zombies that are being knocked back. THis is best used with levitater because when you plant food levitater, it lifts all zombies on screen. P:S: the correct timing is when they are nearly on the ground.

Thought it's heavily different than base PvZ2 but it seems just to have more content. Seeing China got PvZ Online as well, tower defense is probably the genre that they like the most and a money naker for EA licensing. No wonder Arknights can find success there since they can offer some kind of twist in their local tower defense market

If you’re curious what both plantern and coffee bean do, here is what they do, info was stated by flag zombie Plantern: Reveals all bandit zombies close to the plantern (bandit zombies drink an invisible potion upon entering the lawn and only plantern and one other plant can reveal them and the bandit zombie is exclusive to just pvz2 Chinese edition dark ages and plantern is unlocked in dark ages) Coffee Bean: Wakes up all plants in a 3x3 area (plants fall asleep from another exclusive zombie in the dark ages which is the archmage zombie which puts all plants in a 3x3 area to sleep and sleeping plants do nothing until killed or woken up, coffee bean is unlocked in dark ages)

The kiwi is a reference to sun wu kong a character in one of the most famous Chinese novels journey to the west

I haven’t played any version of pvz2 yet, but from what I heard the China version is very different. Same goes for pvz1.

Matt if your listening overall yes this game is better than pvz 2 overall its more f2p and more generous i would say and the plants level up system is just amazing and also there is like hell of a plants and special event that i don't want to spoil...;) You will figure out the rewards and how to get them after you get used to it non english pvz. the only problem this game has is no sounds sometimes,animation lack,quirky bugs and CN ID if this game was patched or just like fix those problem i think this version would be better than the original... (My one of fav thing about this version is also no ads!) Edit:you wanna definetly check out chomper secret level up ability if you do a future video

I but get what you mean level up plants for some stages but it's not like the game is not giving you that i would say There is infact hard levels but i wouldn't say impossible it's just annoying lol you do need It's like trying finish all "hard" levels in one world but instead of getting challenge is more like time consuming it's slow phased i would say so. I wouldn't think matt would most these as a content creater but hey i am a believer

Here’s what the plantern does in this version: plantern will reveal bandit, zombies, and get rid of the fog you don’t know what bandit zombies are bandit, zombies, zombies that will turn invincible so that plants can’t see it. The plantern is a good counter to it.

Wow China's restrictions are more strict than trying to recharge in a Japanese game from a location other than Japan. (Using the other region I play in as an example, since it's similar, but less strict. JP game recharging requires a JPN Google account and credit/debit card) There are was changes in policy for recharging in side loaded other region games lately that caused most international players in those servers unable to charge premium currency. The dreaded red "unable to purchase" warning (paraphrased since I don't remember the exact phrase used) puts a stop to us spending.

Tip: if you want the cat tail, but also want to actually understand whay they're saying, play the mod pvz2 reflourished, its a pvz2 mod that currently has expansion levels for all (international) worlds where you can unlock a few premium plants for free, 1 new world (holiday mashup) where you unlock arena plants, and 1 pvz2 chinese world (steam ages) which is currently unfinished, but has 2 pvz2c exclusive plants, the fanilla, and your boi the cat tail.
