While the numbers don't lie on Luka, I believe this is mostly caused by his inability to play solid defense as opposed to 'empty' offensive stats. Sure, he'll grab a few steals here and there but moves slowly and leaves a lot of open space - making the mavs vulnerable to both drive+score as well as open looks from beyond the arc. This can change with time, but I think it's unfair to discredit the scoring, facilitating, and 'clutch' factor that Luka brings to the table. Furthermore, the fact that he is one of the most used players in the league (usg rating) also doesn't showcase a consecutive longevity without him, so I'd be curious to see these numbers if his usage was more 'normalized'. Interesting analysis though and speaks volumes about the importance of Embiid, Jokic, and Giannis.

They are 0-3 without him this season, they are 5-11 without him last year (And they were 2-8 without him before the Kyrie trade where he was 3-3 without Luka). They are 8-9 without him in 2022, they are 2-4 in 2021, they are 7-7 in 2020 and they are 5-5 in 2019. Numbers don't lie too. Also, he's leaving out a very important point. Lebron scored most of his points when Kawhi wasn't on the floor. According to statistics Lebron was 10-20% less likely to be involved in a play when Kawhi was on the floor and was much less likely to attempt a shot with Kawhi guarding him. Kawhi guarded him far better than any other player on the Spurs and slowed him down in the minutes that mattered. He got rested when the game was a blowout and that's where Lebron had most of his points. Plus, the Raptors were always choking before Leonard. Demars among the worst playoff performers ever.

Yeah, Cavs were mostly healthy and cruised through the playoffs, but I think when you compare stars, Warriors were a bit farther ahead than you think. They had four All Stars to Cleveland’s three, two MVP level players to Cleveland’s one, and one DPOY winner to Cleveland’s none. And the Cavalier role players didn’t have good games. Steph Curry was out rebounding Tristan Thompson, and Kyle Korver only scored 22 points in 5 games. So, a definitive win by the Warriors, no doubt. And while the Cavs were not depleted, they didn’t start at the same talent level as Golden State, and played poorly. They were expected to lose.

Jokic currently has the highest PER for Career of all time, ahead of Jordan, Wilt & Lebron, and he’s not done. Projections have him doing better next year. Don’t see any teams that can stop them from getting to the finals this year and Denver has beat Boston 4 out of the last 5 games. Flash forward 2.2 years --> Jokic has 5 MVP’s total and 4 Rings, now has the all time high for career PER with 29.7 with the most years and most consecutive years of 30+ PER in a season with 6 (no one else has more than 3) And the 2 best seasons of all time with PER. At the end of Luka Doncic’s current contract, he gets fed up with the Mavericks and “defects” to Denver where he is able to team up with Jokic for the highest Basketball IQ super-team in history and add 3 or 4 more rings. At this point the Wemby will be begin to be in his prime as well as SGA and Holmgren will be in their prime to give them a run for their money. It’s going to be an interesting ride.

I think people need to distinguish between being the GOAT and an all-time great. GOATs are players who are basically incredibly good and have had excellent careers, so like MJ, Bron, Kareem, Magic, Kobe. Basically the top 5 players All time greats just refers to the players who haven’t achieved something in terms of career success, or weren’t as individually dominant. So like KD, AI, Karl Malone. I see it as a spectrum, so the more an all time great proves themselves, the closer they get to GOAT conversation

on the jayson tatum vs jaylen brown thing you just didn't even mention a reason why jaylen brown could be considered better other than their contracts? Tatum is literally better at everything than jaylen brown: scoring, passing, defense. The debate on who's better was obvious from the start and people just wanna support someone they believe is underrated.

No. Jokic is a decent defender but on top of that he is a historic passer. And just looking at number of points isn't telling much, Giannis gets his through one of the highest usage rates and with the most free throw attempts. Jokic's scoring is based on ridiculous efficiency, with shooting splits that completely blow Giannis' out of the water at every spot on the court.

Goat of the last 5 years has to be giannis. Jokic didn't become a superstar until the 2020-2021 season, Giannis won an mvp 2 years before Jokic. Giannis has been a superstar for the last 5 years while Jokic has been a superstar for the last 3.

@@zachattackpro4586 Jokic elevated to superstar in '18-'19, he had he Nuggets as the top seed most of the year until GSW(final year with K.D) finally overtook them at the very end. Nikola was 5th in MVP, but had a better year than Lebron and Paul George and they only got more votes for being bigger names. In '19-'20 he went to the WCF and achieved history with the first back to back 3-1 comebacks. And if you look at whenever Jokic and Giannis have gone head to head in the past few years, it's heavily favored in Jokic's side with the Nuggets usually winning by an average of 30pts.

Jokic missed the playoffs in '17-'18 despite having a better record than 3 Eastern playoff teams. In 2018 Jokic had already showed he could be worthy of being called the top center and one of the best players in the league, he just hadn't had enough opportunities to also prove himself in the playoffs yet.
