Thats not true. It looks like as if he is being promoted, but in reality its just a seat far behind. As the russian military defense minister he had direct access to all the financial ressources that went through the military, which by the way is a very corrupt section within the russian regime. Shoigu was moved to the seat of security council. In that seat of security council shoigu only drafts and pushes policy proposals around. Shoigu lost the direct control of the military with all the financials involved.

Shoigu wasn't just sidelined, he was cast down to the very bottom. If you knew how Russian society worked, the MoD IS as high in power structure you can go at the top, besides the prestigious ex-KGB (FSB) and the home internal spy division - which is where the real transfer of power has shifted to. Shoigu's 2nd in command not just in any jail, but a specialized KGB prison far away from any potential military access. In a country where coup's are not far fetched, and where our ideas of budget accountability don't exist at all, where great power is given to the heads of these depts (far more than a western minister), it's no wonder greed and temptation take root amongst the greedy. Ivanov, Shoigu's 2nd in command of the MoD, was blatant in his theft, literal millions upon millions were pilfered purchasing big ticket items his salary as a deputy minister could never achieve. In my opinion, it's to prevent Shoigu from further theft, keeping him within (coup) power structure reach (he did command the the most powerful structure in the country and many will obey as conditioned), and at last to correlate the allegations against him and Ivanov as with today's senior LG's arrest on the same type of theft, I have no doubt Shoigu was also watched as the Ivanov investigation took root a year+ ago. There will be a shift in that balance of power now - as the spy agencies take up the slack with appointments showing Putin taking old friends, ex-intelligence officers within his inner circle, and perhaps a more controlled economy and control (Soviet like) exerted over the populace is going to take place. If anything, this is worse for Ukraine as it cleans up the deadwood in Moscow and sharper focus brought to bear.

They dont actually get that much mind. A lot of it is poured into things that are hard to quantify. Also, they have e.g10 billion for say 100 assets. These assets will be obsolete equipment. But the 10 billion is for replacing the obsolete equipment with new items. So the obsolete kit sent to ukraine has a value of say 1 billion and the remaing 9 gets spread out under the guise of buying 100 new assets for NATO. Another layer is added to this when it goes through say poland. The US gets the funding, poland hands over its obsolete kit and some polish officials get some big favours/holidays etc. Its really nefarious/bent stuff.

What a moronic clickbait title. Shoigu was not sacked because of military mistakes. He was stripped of power and placed in a holding position because he was engaged in political maneuvering against Putin. Turns out that Prighozhin was spot on with his accusations and games were being played by Shoigu and Gerasimov in a grab for Prighozhin's massive wealth. Putin was being fed false information, and sensitive nuclear asset information was sold. Military mistakes had nothing to do with it. Russia runs like an uneasy collaboration of mafia families and the power balance is in flux. Your headline sounds like you have it confused with British Parliamentary scandals.

@@uzopaul871 Ouch. the West is hurting... oh no - we're not are we? If you were here you would know that we really wouldn't know the Ukraine war was happening the effects are so tiny on our economies. The UK decided to increase military spending from 2% to 2.5% of its GDP by 2030. Meanwhile Russia is spending 25% of its GDP on its military, with its infrastructure and economy collapsing - and still only making enough weapons in a year to replace 2 months of its losses at the front line. I wonder how long those Soviet-era stockpiles will last?
