Love the channel. Am curious though, how do you get away with it? Is it not considered political dissidence? We're always told Russia has zero tolerance for dissent and - love the look btw - you're kinda distinct looking, so surely not that hard to find. World is lucky you're brave but, yknow, I still worry. Maybe my question is worth a video. idk.

@@user-mg4vz5jp1q oh ok. But i don't watch American broadcasting. This was reported by TV RAIN, an independent Russian news provider banned in Russia for being critical of the Putin Regime. This is also what has been reported by many Russian citizen journalists. It also the position of many independent charitable or non-politically aligned organisations, like Human Rights Watch (HRW). HRW shine a light on atrocities all around the world - they are just as critical of Russia's enemies. I do engage with some Russian broadcasting, it does not appear balanced to me. There are no dissenting voices, nobody really critical of the government. This isn't normal in democratic, free countries. Freedom of the press is essential. I find the Russian military bloggers to be most critical of the government because they are particularly unhappy with how poorly the Russian military is executing (what the whole world assumed would be) "a very easy win" for the so called powerful Russian War machine. I am always willing to listen to other opinions and weigh the evidence before making up my own mind. I find it very difficult to find any evidence of real Russian political opposition or movement critical to the Kremlin. I look forward to hearing back from you with some objective, verifiable fact-based evidence to support your claim.

Varvara is really smart. I hadn't really considered why Putin would prevent his opponents from running when the election is totally rigged anyway. I always saw both actions (rigging elections and blocking opposition) to be the same thing - a grab for power. But she's right, there is more nuance to it. Rigging the elections is to hold onto power and make it look like everyone agrees with Putin, but blocking the opposition is more to prevent the spread of alternative ideas and make it so that the people don't realise there are other options.

Daniil, again wonderful but sad video. The elephant in the room: the ratio of people working as SILOVIKI in Russia is about twice the ratio of people working in a similar position in the USA, which has already a lot of military, cops, spies. 1 out of 26 people with a job is a silovik in Russia. That means that almost anyone has a relative or someone close who is working in order to keep up the dictatorshop. Another thing: even Ekaterina Shulman when interviewed abroad - she and almost all the other opposition people abroad- say Russia is STILL NOT a dictatorship but only an autocracy. Autocracy is Hungary. Russia has been a dictatorship for many years now. It was an autocracy during Yeltsin times and the beginning of Putin, at best.
