Trajectory is currently irrelevant. The sanctions imposed up until now will take at least a decade to recover from. Every month that passes adds close to another year to that. Further enforcement steps like secondary sanctions and holding sellers responsible for where their goods end up will multiply these effects. I like Peter's idea of a blockade though. That would have a drastic impact on the rate that other sanctions bite too. Plus reduce willingness to evade sanctions by folks that don't already do it for the likes of NK/Iran.

Turkey and to a lesser extent French, British, and the Americans at the Black Sea and the Mediterranian. Europe has to face the idea that American military support is going away, was always going to go away. This is a European conflict and must be dealt with, primarily, by the Europeans. They will hang around for a while with Ukraine, and if things go sideways there quickly, they will be there with NATO. At 8:05 - what did he mean that this is the ninth conflict Russia has started? All I can recall are the following six: 1) First Chechen War (1994-1996) - Russia's attempt to suppress Chechen calls for independence. 2) Second Chechen War (1999-2009) - A renewed Russian campaign in Chechnya under Putin, initially framed as an anti-terrorism operation. 3) Russia-Georgia War (2008) - Conflict over the separatist regions of South Ossetia and Abkhazia. 4) Annexation of Crimea (2014) - Russia's seizure and annexation of the Crimean Peninsula from Ukraine. 5) War in Donbas (2014-present) - Conflict in Eastern Ukraine involving Russian-backed separatists. 6) Military intervention in Syria (2015-present) - Russia supports the Assad regime against various opposition forces.

Even if he was willing, Lukaschenko is in a poor position to do much. His military is small and focused on internal regime security, not expeditionary power projection. He's had a history of oscillating between closer ties to Russia and emphasising Belarus' identity as an independent state. Better for him to lay low, rather than risk destabilising his vulnerable position.

Sanctions are groups of countries collectively deciding they'll not do certain things in relation to a third country, like buy or sell them products, or offer them financial or insurance services. Blockades means sinking their shipping which means war with a nuclear superpower. Don't say silly things without reasoning through the consequences.
