    I notice that there are a lot of negative comments here about the music, dress, performance quality, etc. I grew up in this era and these performances are far superior to the steady diet of musical garbage that many listen to today !!

    I liked the songs but never saw them until the last year or so. I guess by today's standards, they're leaning heavy on the groovy vibes but that was the style back in the 70s.

    I rediscovered the MCC this past year and realized that I knew many of their songs even though I was young when their popularity was at its peak. They got a lot of radio airplay in Canada in the early 70s. I would like to know all of the singers by name, but it seems like Mike Curb never listed them on the albums, nor are they listed anywhere on his website or in biographies about the group. Too bad, because it would be nice to know whether any of the singers went on to solo careers.

    The red-headed boy is still alive. His name is Rusty Keller. Besides working with Mike Curb he appeared in an episode of The Waltons and, James at 16. The rumor of him getting killed at Mc Donalds is false.

  • @jkl8006

    @jkl8006

    Жыл бұрын

    The character played by Rusty Keller in The Waltons and James at 16 is very likely the redhead in the M. C. Congregation as the resemblance (facial features and build) between the two is stunning. Unfortunately, I haven't found out anything else about Rusty since those appearances, and it's been over 40 years. Such a talented kid, it's surprising (and a shame) he didn't continue performing and making a name for himself. Lastly w/r/t the rumor of his getting killed at McDonalds 10 years after the M. C. Congregation performances, that would have occurred in the early to mid 1980s, which is well past The Waltons and James at 16 episodes. Maybe, with luck, we'll find out more about what happened with this guy.

    I've always loved this song, but never heard this performance before. I think the version I knew as a kid was Anne Murray, but over a hundred people covered it, including Johnny Cash, Bing Crosby, Joan Baez and Elvis! The songwriter was Gene MacLellan, and Murray seems to have been first to record it, while a group called Ocean had the biggest hit with it. Anne Murray also recorded MacLellan's beautiful "Snowbird" one of my favorite songs from the early 70s. I wish the names of the singers in the Michael Curb Congregation could be listed!
