It was here in Germany No. 1 in 1969, i was 10 Years old, and it was played all day long in Radio. TV was not so popular that time, except Enterprise and Bonanza :-) . The good old days will not come Back. Our live was outside with friends.

I remember watching this on a Saturday morning as a 10 or 11 year old kid. I thought it was a great song, but I thought it would never go beyond that particular Archies episode. I was so glad that song took off in popularity, became the Billboard Hot 100 Number one song for 1969, and in fact is such an iconic song even today in 2022.

Well, they’ve turned so many animated cartoon into live movies (The Flintstones,etc.), so why not The Archies. I wonder if it will be shown in the USA and Canada.

Ron Dante lead vocal, written by Andy Kim, heard it EVERYWHERE in 1969. Later in 1981 the group Starzon did a impersonation that was medleyed with Beatles songs and that hit the charts big then. So it got a 2nd chart life.

How I recall when I first heard this song on an ArchIes Special on a Sunday NIGHT IN 1969.It always transports me back to that very night whenever I hear it again too.

im 22 years old so i never saw this on release, but i can tell you its timeless because it STILL contends with modern music today, if you listened to it you almost wouldn’t notice a difference! Sugar Sugar just sounds more authentic and fun! Maybe its the instruments and lyrics that make it so timeless 🤷🏽‍♂️

This could be the best song The Archies had ever made! It made it to the top 100 billboard!

I really miss the most popular upload of this music video though, where it had over 52M views. Cannot believe it was taken down.

1969 was one hell of an amazing year . the music and fashion of the mid to late 1960s are amazing and wonderful too .

Very few songs make you happy every time you hear it. This is one of them. Watching the Archies cartoon every Saturday morning was pure childhood fun. It all comes back every time I hear this song.

I NEVER imagined Archie's speaking voice sounding like that.

Dallas McKennon was his speaking voice. He's probably n3st known voice wise besides Archie was his time at Walter Lantz with Buzz Buzz.Buzzard from the 1950s onward Gumby and his various Disney projects in animation and the parks.

I cannot figure why we kids loved this comic book and cartoon, but we had oodles of fun with the characters and the music.

I am a late 50s years old man. I was in a gym doing a late-night workout one time, there were about 12 other late 50s year old men there trying to get in shape. This song played on the big screen. Everyone stopped their working out and just stared at the screen. Fantastic song, still stops all the boys from back in the day.

Loved this song as a kid. Lovely to stumble on it again after all these years.

Sadly I don’t think so. If you heard James Gunn, he said the music is slowly transitioning to late 90’s and early 2000’s music that they somehow got from Earth.

I'm a 90s kid, but thanks to my mom I grew up with lots of classic rock. And I'm so grateful to be able to call this era that was before my time a significant part of my childhood.

I enjoyed waking up to this song coming from the radio in the mornings as a child.

“Sugar Sugar” was a song written for a fictional band, The Archies, on a Saturday Morning Cartoon show, The Archie Show, that lasted one season. It was just one of thousands of bubblegum pop songs written for cartoons and children’s shows and records. This one ended up being the number one song in The United States and The UK. Incredible. 😀

Hope the whole series and this clip gets photochemical restorations and 4K scans. They could sync the original stereo tracks with the video too.
